Cat Six Cycles

I went in with a reaaaally crappy vintage bike that I bought for $ 60 on Craigslist (I know nothing about bikes); I knew taking it in that it would be either an expensive tune-​up, or that I’d have to let go of the bike altogether. Kirk was amazing. Not only did he point out I would most likely get injured if I rode this piece of poo (even if he did fix what COULD be fixed), but he explained that I was overcharged for it, probably by someone who didn’t know what they were doing. He was super empathetic. In addition, he let me know that there was a really reliable bike in the back that he was fixing up for his GF who didn’t want it anymore, and that I could buy that from him for $ 100 if I was interested. He let me take it for a test ride (so trusting!) and adjusted the seat like 5x without me having to ask. I asked for a kickstand, he suggested fenders, and I also got a bike lock and reflective tape. I left for an hour and had a coffee, came back, and the bike was all ready! The bike itself, the fenders, labor, tape, and lock all cost $ 260 altogether… the price of a brand new bike that wouldn’t itself be as reliable, nor have all the fun and necessary extras. I am so, so grateful to Kirk. As someone who knows nothing of bikes (or even Portland TBH) I felt really taken care of, and not gypped. ⁵⁄₅ would go back (and will go back) for future issues.

This shop has a heart for it’s local community and is evident by it’s above and beyond efforts. Kirk at the shop was willing to help me repair my bike beyond regular store hours so that I was able to get back home. Local commuters should step in and check out this shop.

Really great store, very helpful staff. They are fair and square, even generous in their salesmanship and go above and beyond in their customer service.

I tried out this shop a year ago when we were new to the neighborhood to get my bike tuned up. Very good service and welcoming experience. Recently my wife was ready to buy a new bike and we started our search at Cat Six. Jonathan was very helpful, kind and easy going. Our dog loves him, and also the shop cat (who watches him through the window). Jonathan suggested we try other bikes at other shops so she was sure about her decision. We did, and then came back. The bike was the best for her, and we really liked the shop. Plan to continue being my (old) bike in for work and hope you’ll try out the shop.

So glad we have such a great bike shop in our neighborhood. Brought in one of those crazy BOB baby strollers with a flat and malfunctioning brakes. Since it uses a lot of bicycle components I figured these guys could fix it without a problem, boy was I right. Got it back that afternoon, good to go! Then I noticed a little gray kitten in the bottom basket. Steve the shop cat was trying to stow away with me! Too cute!

Jon and the shop is great! Super attentive, patient and a place that cares. So happy to find them. Very welcoming to a newbie like myself. Happy to call them my bike shop.

Excellent customer service, communicate well, fast, nice. And Steven the polydactyl shop kitty is really cute. Another bright star in the Cully Neighborhood. Also, right across from Three Dogs Daycare and Boarding.

Cat Six… what a great bike buying experience! I ended up with a bike that exceeds my expectations from a shop that is efficient and friendly. I had been to 5 or 6 shops in the 2 weeks before I tumbled into Cat Six. I was having a very generic experience in all of them, searching for my first new bike in 20 years or so. I discovered Cat Six sort of accidentally when they turned up as retailers of the Virtue brand bike I had in mind. I knew what I wanted but didn’t really have the technical language to express my needs. Jonathan at Cat Six listened to me, answered all of my questions with patience and enthusiasm and I felt at home right away. He was diligent about helping me find a bike the really fit me physically, the end all being I now have a super comfortable, sporty, beautiful bike that I love to ride. The bike model I had test ridden and really liked was a little small. They put one together with me in mind in just two days and called to let me know it was waiting for me to try out. I bought it and rode it for a few days then realized I needed different handle bars to maximize the fit. Kirk changed the bars and cables for me and did it with humor and patience. The guys are super friendly about having you stop in to tweak little details after you purchase your bike, often while you wait. They took great care to help me find MY bike and not end up with the wrong one. This is a first name basis kind of neighborhood shop, so perfectly located where the Going street bicycle by-​way meets up with NE 42^nd Ave. So yeah, I’m a groupie. Cat Six kicks ass and so does my Virtue bike!

Excellent service bought some parts and got a few repairs all well done and extremely reasonable !

Stopped in to see if I could get a burley hitch mounted on my cruiser and left literally 5 minutes later ready to go! Fast, excellent customer service and prices so low they are worth a great tip. Thanks again guys … Definitely my new bike stop! :D

Most of the bike shops in Portland force you to choose between kind and quick but merely competent or highly skilled but inattentive and backed-​up. This bike shop combines the good and doesn’t force you to choose between evils; professional and precise with your bike, attentive and responsive with you. For a bicycle-​based business like mine, this combination is a rare treat I’m almost reluctant to share with the rest of Portland, but here I go.
