I don’t know what is a big deal about these ice cream place pltoo crowded everybody’s in the bed mood and is so expensive

I can’t believe we haven’t been here until this past week when it was 100 degrees outside! My kids love this place so much and could not stop telling us that we «have to come back here!» My husband and I enjoyed it very much and may just come back for dessert on our date night. SHH! Don’t tell the kids!
Salted caramel was delicious. I think my husband had the rose? ice cream and loved that too. We love the cute little cups they come in. This place is a hit!

A friend recommended this place to us for our Portland travels and the long wait (not as long as Voodoo but still) was worth it! They had a huge variety of unique flavors made from quality ingredients. I had one with butterscotch and chocolate chips, but some of their flavors are seasonal so be prepared. They let you sample amply though, so no worries in picking the wrong flavor– sample freely and choose wisely my friends!

Thai tea ice cream all of the way! I think I’ve only tried a handful of flavors here and this is my go to flavor. Everything time I try a flavor, I make sure to get a scoop of Thai tea as well.
My friends were very persistent on trying the lychee flavor. I love lychee, but I didn’t like the ice cream so much.
It’s a small space, clean, and very fun and colorful like the flavors they offer. It’s a little spendy, but let’s be honest, most ice cream places are. I have a huge sweet tooth and this place surely hits the spot.

We took the coffee crackle, pista and cherry almond flavors and all of them were very good. The cream was smooth. This is the first place I have gone to that has a mini scoop as well! All of their ice cream flavors are freshly made and they has interesting coffees too! Will try them the next time. The service was excellent. They have enough seating places but the Jamison Square park across from this place could also be a nice spot to savor the ice cream if seating is not available. They have sorbets too, though we did not try it.

Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis rivals Salt & Straw, I think — but it’s good in a different way that you can say you’d go here for a different reason than Salt & Straw.
Their ice cream has wonky flavors, but from the flavors that I’ve tried (non-​sorbet, sorry) I noticed that their emphasis on flavor is the cream. So the ice cream ends up becoming this almost smooth gelato like texture that’s rich but light at the same, and you taste that before and after the flavor of your choosing that are mild in flavor. Personally, I like that there is an option that really just sticks to having a good cream flavor, throughout the bite, that has supplemental flavors rather than having flavors being the star and the cream flavor as an afterthought.

Ordered waffle cone for both of us. I chose coffee crunch and my husband got chazelnut (chocolate hazelnut). Both were phenomenal.
This isn’t one of those trendy, super exotic flavors ice cream places, which was perfect for us. We were in the mood for more traditional, but delicious, flavors.
We were hesitant to get the «micro» sized scoop, but let me assure you, it’s plenty of ice cream.
In a cute neighborhood — especially nice to cross the street and enjoy your ice cream in Jamison square.

My wife and I were waiting at the streetcar stop for the NS line towards Northrup, and were talking about how good the ice cream at Cool Moon was. A guy heard our convo about ice cream and said «you going to Salt & Straw too?» We said no and explained that we like Cool Moon better.
So much that the next day we made a visit to Cool Moon.

I wouldn’t make a review to compare this place to Salt and straw.
This place is at the quite area so it doesn’t get much attention but it doesn’t mean it’s not good — it is good. They have hundreds of flavor (I was told by a worker there) and they changed them when that flavor is sold out.
I love their «spicy peanut» flavor which I had one year ago. I have been coming back to get it but they never make it again. However, they do promise that it will come back– I will be waiting: D
Overall, everyone who works at ice cream store is nice and friendly– so is Cool moon’s.

Seriously? This place is not that great. But by the ridiculously high prices, you would think so. The Thai tea ice cream was good, but not of the same quality as Salt n Straw. But it was more expensive and the scoops were tinier! No thanks.

Wow. After sitting on Hwy 26 for an hour, this place saved my sanity!
$ 5 bought me a regular (two small/​medium scoops). It was perfect. I do not mind paying a little more for less if it is high quality and I was not disappointed.
Strawberry Sorbet: Delicious! Just the right amount of fruity and icey.
Peanut Butter Nib: Chunks of peanut and small chocolate flakes in a peanuty ice cream that did not overpower. It was so well balanced and delicious.
You may note that my combination seems a little strange, sorbet and peanut butter ice cream, but the lovely attendant behind the scoop pointed out that it was like Peanut Butter and Jelly. I would highly recommend, you can thank me later.
Yes, the décor could be updated, but I hardly noticed it after I began staring longingly at the selection of ice creams and sorbets.

The lunar ice cream place is just right. Next to Jamison Square, this provides plenty of unique flavors of which to perhaps sample. Seating and sides such as soda permeate the storefront.
It was great to go here. I had two scoops for $ 4.50. It’s so tucked in, not many were there. The peanut butter chip and the kulfi were my selected kinds. Both were good. It was thick enough to be rich, yet thin enough not to be tourist themed. Most other ice cream is most put to shame here.
All ice cream ought to be like this.

It was raining cats and dogs outside but stepping into Cool Moon for some ice cream was a brilliant decision ! It’s a nice and quiet place with really friendly staff. You could easily sit down and enjoy your ice cream looking at the Pearl district outside !
Absolutely loved the Kulfi and Ginger Cookie flavors (⁵⁄₅). Sampled the Thai Ice Tea and that was brilliant too !

Sampled a couple of their flavors before choosing the Thai Iced Tea flavor in a micro size. They really hit the nail on the head with that one! The ice cream was so flavorful and didn’t leave any lingering «fake» flavor taste afterwards. The texture was the great creamy dense kind that holds it shape even after you’ve dug into it for a while. No ice cream soup left at the end!
The décor is very cute as well, and the inside is quite spacious with a couple tables to sit at. All I can say is bravo, well done. I am a big Salt & Straw fan and I think this place holds its own in the ice cream market.
I would recommend the Thai Iced Tea flavor, as well as the Earl Grey flavor, which I only sampled, but would get the next time I’m here.

Before coming to Portland, I researched some ice cream spots. This is listed as one of the best ice cream shops in the US, so I was going to be sure to stop by. I had some time to kill before grabbing lunch, so I walked up. I was able to try out butter pecan and cookies and cream. Served up in a cute little cup. Tasty stuff.

$ 13 (w/​small tip) for 2 ice creams, that’s kinda pricey in my book, but… it was excellent! I had the salted caramel on a chocolate dipped waffle cone. The salted caramel ice cream was creamy cold (obviously haha) and delicious. I like that it was’t too decadent in flavor. Just the right amount of yummy goodness. My husband had the mint chip in a waffle bowl, no complaints there! I got our treats to go, asked for my cone in a cup (which they had no problem with) upside down I like to call it, makes for a cute presentation.
The interior of the place is nice, bright and airy. I like that, space while I’m eating is a always a good thing in my book. It is not the biggest ice cream and sorbet (yes, they offer sorbets too) shop I’ve been in but it’s big enough, plenty of seating for a place of this size. The have a stand up to bar as well. Makes for an okay option, to enjoy your tasty treats at, if all seats are taken.
The gals behind the counter are fast and efficient. I feel like they still made an effort to make a friendly connection though, which is always nice.
This place would probably be one of my go to treat spots if I lived in the area.

Delicious and light ice cream. Had my first visit yesterday and got a scoop of the Thai iced tea flavor — very, very good. Definitely will return to try some other flavors. A great find!

We stayed and had ice cream. Lots of interesting flavors some better than others. My favorite was dark chocolate chip. The Carmel and kufli were pretty good too. I’m sure they are packed on a hot summer day.

After having breakfast for lunch at Daily Café, I felt the need for a hot fudge sundae in a piggy-​based fit. Oh so lovely. Now let’s see if I can stay awake long enough to finish this review.
The shop itself is attractive and easy to spend time in. Very clean and staffed by a quietly friendly young woman who greeted me once I arrived. I gave her my order and almost squealed with delight when she told me I could have two flavors of ice cream (ginger cookie and Belgian chocolate). I loved the touch of serving my sundae in a pretty tulip glass. If I could have licked the glass, I would have. The ice cream had deep intense flavor and creamy texture.
The location is just across the street from Jamison Park where many scream for ice cream during the summer and is very handily located on a Portland Streetcar stop.
My eyelids are fluttering, so I bid you adieu as I start to slip into Slumberland and encourage you to come visit Cool Moon for some excellent ice cream.

Reading all these reviews made me wished I tried the thai tea flavor… but then I think about the Kulfi flavor and how good it was and I don’t have any regrets! Came here late on a Sunday, and there were so many flavors to choose from but we decided on Kulfi with a waffle cone because we’ve tried it before and we were wondering what it would taste like as an ice cream. It was amazing!
The only downside to this place is that it is a little expensive, but I thought it was well worth the price. Also another minor thing is that I didn’t think it was the most aesthetically pleasing place, but it had its own charm. I know that Salt & Straw is the most popular ice cream choice in Portland, but I think that this place deserves a try! I felt like there were a lot more interesting flavors, and it was definitely a lot less packed!

Stopped by for some ice cream after eating at the nearby Piazza Italia. Although people are always talking about Salt and Straw we chose to give this place a chance at the recommendation of our local friends, and I have to say, I really enjoyed this place.
They had a bunch of unique flavors including a horchata one that I really enjoyed. What I would say impressed me the most about this place was just the fact that the worker was so patient with us and didn’t really complain that we wanted to sample so many of their flavors and didn’t end up buying that many ourselves. Service like this is truly invaluable and I really appreciated that the lady was okay with us trying their many flavors, because they WERE really unique, and I honestly had no idea how most of them would taste!

Their THAI TEA ICE CREAM is amazingggg!!! It’s not too sweet and the flavor is totally accurate. At other places, the Asian flavors like green tea or earl grey ice creams aren’t the right taste or the flavor is just too subtle, but this is always perfection! My boyfriend and I come here specially for the thai tea when we’re in the downtown area.
We had their lychee sorbet too, it was good but just way too sweet to handle. And the coffee flavor is also super creamy and delicious!

One of the main reasons they are getting 5 starts is due to their Thai Ice Tea Ice Cream. I am a big fan of Thai Tea, but something about it being in ice cream form made me gleefully giggle. It was orange too! It was so yummy and made me want more. Seriously, try it.
Now, Im a vanilla fan, I KNOW BORING. But anyone who has been to Texas may have tried Blue Bell Ice Cream. Sorry Oregonians, you guys got nothing on Blue Bell. Texas Blue Bell is like the Umpqua or Tillamook for you all. Blue Bell just has more fat in it and if you know ice cream, that’s where the flavor is. Cool Moon’s vanilla just made me smile from ear to ear. It reminded me of Blue Bell’s vanilla ice cream. Just good ol’ ice cream. Leave it plain, or add to it. Either way, its a slam dunk vanilla ice cream to try out. They had some other scrumptious flavors, but seriously, I was sold on the Thai Ice Tea ice cream and paid no mind to any of the other flavors.

Portland seems to attract hot dog stands and ice cream carts. Donuts rule here in P-​Town. We are a dine out group of 20 – 30 something pre-​retirees: blowing our wads Friday night and Saturday after payday. We are good at spending 15.00 on 6 scoops of ice cream, 22.00 on half a dozen donuts, 18.00 on 6 deliciously tiny pieces of chocolate. So when a friend of mine suggested Cool Moon Ice Cream I thought, sure, I’m feeling adventurous. I’ll try a new spot.
But Seriously! That Thai Ice Tea ice cream? That Ginger cookie ice cream? Where have you been my whole life?
Friendly service. A BIT pricey. But that ice cream, though! Please forgive me, Salt N’ Straw, I’m done with you, your lines, and that sickly sweet smell of diabetes that proceeds your best clientele.

Ice cream is a 5-​star, super original and small-​batch, very creamy! The biggest problem I have is on their décor, this is the Pearl, so you can take down the Christmas lights and kitschy hula hoops! But the worst offender is the ginormous paper ball in the middle of the room with what looks like dead bugs inside. (I just took a closer look at its definitely dark spots, but either way it’s gross looking)
Keep your eyes on the ice cream and you’ll do just fine! Take your ice cream and sit outside on this beautiful spring day.

This is just another one of your craft ice cream locations, but I definitely enjoyed it. I feel like they have a nice cultural selection haha (Kulfi, Thai iced team, some other things too.) I got the lemon poppy seed (yumm) and coffee something which was like way surprisingly better than I’d expected, and I love coffee ice cream. It almost tasted like spumoni.
The line moves quick and isn’t as ridiculous as Salt and Straw, so I’d definitely consider returning as long as another new ice cream place doesn’t open up that I need to try before the next time I’m in town.

Let me start by saying: I love ice cream. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a bad experience with ice cream in my entire life. I pretty much eat dinner JUST to have ice cream afterwards. Yeah, the obsession is real.
Anyway, we found this place while searching for a little dessert. Of course Unilocal told us to go to Salt and Straw… and of course the line was around the corner and down the block. So, the next stop? Cool Moon. We didn’t have to wait at all. The guy who served us was very nice. He was knowledgable about the product, which always helps. I think chocolate chip was the only «normal» flavor I might’ve seen there. That’s a good thing. If you want «normal» then I’m sure there’s a Baskin Robbins somewhere in Portland. Lol.
My partner had a Coke Float, which she enjoyed. I had a sundae made with Chocolate Chip ice cream, topped with bitter sweet fudge, whipped cream, pecans, and a not-​so-​average cherry on top. I’d recommend this place if you don’t want to wait an hour to have your ice cream!

Long wait due to heat but totally worth it. Since I can’t have dairy, my eyes went straight to the non-​dairy sorbet flavors. I ended up getting the lime de coconut which was pretty good. It was tart and sweet.
My friends had other flavors of the ice cream but I drooled the entire time when my friend had theThai ice tea. Another friend ordered a milk shake which I heard it as good but it was the most expensive ever. Who charges $ 7.00 for a milk shake? You can buy 2 cups of coffee for $ 7.00. I couldn’t try it myself to judge it. Now you are probably asking why we spent $ 7.00 on a milk shake right? Well my friend was craving it so we got it. Enough ranting about the milk shake.
The establishment is on a corner lot next to Jamison Square in the Pearl District. It’s a cute store. Tons of employees working. The menu is a little crazy but nothing too hard to read. The décor is random stuff nothing to jazzy. There’s not a lot of seating but we were able to snag a bench for exactly 5 seats. They also have a Happy Hour special. I don’t recall if it’s M-​F from 4 – 6 or if the include the weekend. However, the Happy Hour specials is $ 5.00 for a pint which may sound too much but it’s a better deal than one small scoop for $ 3.75. The staff was super friendly.
Despite the milk shake price, I’d still go back for more. If you are in the area, swing by and enjoy the ice cream for me. Bring cash to save 5% on your entire purchase and ask for a punch card too.

I can attest that the Thai tea flavor here is absolutely indulgent. I could actually taste the tea laced within the ice cream, and this icy concoction had a brilliant orange huge. A micro scoop plopped on a sugar cone was the perfect companion during my summer stroll around the Pearl District.

Otherwise – I highly advise y’all to start checking out other stellar ice cream places like Cool Moon that are just as delicious as the touristy watering hole that is Salt & Straw. (Not that Salt & Straw isn’t fabulous. I still pledge my devotion.)

My main attraction for cool moon has always been K.U.L.F.I flavor. It’s the only ice cream place in Portland that offers this Indian flavor.
Kulfi has been a part of every single summers while growing up in India. Either home made or eating outside. Kulfi was always so welcomed. N you get it mostly in the form of Popsicle.
Cool Moon’s Kulfi in warm waffle cone is so amazing. Taste is ⁵⁄₅. I do like their seasonal flavors as well. It is open till 11 pm. Always have got a good service. This is one of Portland’s best icecream place.
For me Cool Moon = Kulfi time!

This is an ice cream shop with an ideal location, right across from the screaming horde of kids in the Jamison Fountain. It does pack them in and move them through. There were I believe at least 4 people working in the shop area moving people quickly through.
They have a number of interesting flavors. The menu boards list several choices for sundays up to, if I remember right, one with 10 scoops. Puss they have some baked goods, shakes, scoops, malts etc.
I tried a vanilla shake with hazelnut flavoring. It was unfortunate choice the vanilla ice cream was to strongly flavored and the taste was muddled. I was unable to make out the hazelnut at all and the vanilla seemed off flavored probably because of it. Still it was a fun place and I am sure I will be back to try a sunday sometime.
It is decorated for the kids with streamers etc (see pics) and a number of tables inside as well as chairs outside, and of course more seating in the park across the streat.

After finishing off our drinks at the festival, we needed something cool to soothe the heat wave we’re in. Luckily we knew that Cool Moon ice cream was nearby as we were just late the day before when it closed early due to Fourth of July. Good thing we came back because after Salt & Straw I was feeling let down by the ice cream scene in Portland.
Well as it is located right across from Jamison Square, there’s a steady stream of traffic since the kiddos like their ice cream! They have a few curious flavors like spicy Thai peanut, peanut butter & jelly, & a stout, but they also have standards ie vanilla, chocolate and marion berry. They let you sample which is nice. All the flavors were present and creamy unlike at Salt & Straw where the ice cream was lacking… cream or just more like it tasted like milk more than anything.
Anyways! We got a regular sized two flavor ice cream, Thai peanut and cherry almond chip. The Spicy Thai peanut had that kick like eating curry but in ice cream form. The cherry almond chip was nice to balance the spicy flavor.
Overall this satisfied me more than Salt & Straw and the wait was definitely shorter. Though pricing was kind of similar to the Bay Area which was surprising. A little pricy but a nice splurge.
