My roommates and my coworkers love this bar because it’s so cheap and their vibe is so unique. But honestly I’ve given this place so many chances and have only ever had an okay experience or awful ones, like what I just experienced tonight. I came in for happy hour, I was so excited, I acted excited, and I ordered sliders and a shot and a pint. The bartender was nice enough when she took my order, brought the food, gave me hot sauce, etc. I watched TV, I talked to the guy next to me, I put my headphones back on. She mostly kept to herself. Near the end of the hour she asked if I wanted anything else. I just ordered another shot and pint at first. She turned around to punch stuff into the POS. I changed my mind and asked if the mac and cheese was still $ 5. She said it always was, and when I said«okay I’d like some mac and cheese she starts getting snarky out of nowhere. She scolds me for trying to order while she’s not facing me, so I say sorry and put my headphones back on, waiting for her to be done talking to other customers. And then she comes up to me and says«Oh was it YOU who wanted mac and Cheese? It was YOU who tried to order while my back was turned? Because now you’ve got your headphones on while I’m trying to talk to you.» That was fucking IT. I kept my headphones off, I asked her to cancel my food order, I closed my tab, I didn’t tip her anything and wrote«fuck you and your passive aggressive attitude I’m never coming back again» and left my new pint and shot untouched at the bar. Forgive me for trying to make my tab bigger and therefore make you and your bar more money. The unique, hipster, grungy atmosphere is NOT worth awful service and awful attitudes. Not to mention the last time I was here the only bartender working went on a 15min smoke break when I needed to close my tab and get back to work. I said I’m never coming back and I mean it.

Just another wanna be hawaiian food place! Do not waste your money here. Kalua pig was dry and had no taste, macaroni in the mac salad was hard(undercooked), and no aloha spirit from servers.

Been before, had the garlic chicken… awesome. Got a Groupon so went back tonight on our way home from the movies. Even better! Pork was stellar, shoyu chicken, mac n cheese, mac salad!!! I almost want to get out of my pajamas and get what I should have gotten…10 sides of mac salad to go. Service was great as well. Little cutie with glasses. I bought another groupon… so did my roommate. And leftovers… well reheated.

I’m actually changing from my previous review that was on Christmas. The staff was under a lot of pressure and it is a stressful time of year. My friends all highly recommend this place but at the same time it has its faults, based off my previous experience. I would go there again but not during a holiday.

Bad service like the worst I’ve had in town server was not aware of our presence after she saw our id had to go up to get everything except our meal didn’t ask if we needed waters when she came to the table and our drinks were empty they stayed that way. Food is sub par, Hawaiian time is technically fast food and it’s way better. No salt our seasoning in anything I ate, not enough sriracha for the six tables. The pork was cooked proper but flavorless Fried garlic chicken and potato in mac salad? As soon as I questioned the roots of this place I noticed everyone working was white, hmmm… Even the teriyaki was gross never going back.

DAFUIITSHOULDBECALLED. Always wanted to try this place and bought 2 groupons. We had never been inside before, the bartender was hot on us to get I.D.s but that’s the only time she jumped to it… I asked if they had seltzer and ordered a vodka seltzer with lemon… It came as a vodka soda with dried out lime, bad vodka… Had to wait for lemons, and then again to get menus then AGAIN to order, as coming to the table was not going to happen… Bartender was busy talking and not much else… The lottery machines went down and were all beeping right behind us, she NEVER went to turn them off… Our food came after a wait, and it was basic, very basic, not hawaiin food at all… Had to ask for teriyaki which was Sometimes an extra charge!!! We were never offered water with our meal, our booth fell apart on the bottom. We left ½ our food and my drink… Such a let down, the first face I see shouldn’t be of a disgruntled employee. I have another group on it will go unused…

After waiting 45 minutes and being charged more than expected, the bartender REFUSED to give me an itemized receipt for my to go order. Worst service ever

Hawaiian food meet Dive Bar. It’s a nicer dive bar with some decent food. First, they have daily specials on drinks — 1 tall drink for $ 4 and one well drink for $ 3 — daily rotation on the specials offered. Now, the food at a dive bar doesn’t have a bunch of deep fried calorie bombs but, actually plated hawaiian food. prices are reasonable with most plates being between $ 9 – 12. The meat portions are big and generous and the food is better than you’d expect. The marinated kalbi ribs were absolutely delicious. Get them.

Good food and drink in a nice Hawai’i meets Portland urban feel. Classic rock playing with Hawaiian décor and bamboo edges. Nice menu of drink specials and 3 happy hours a day! Parking is pretty good as Da Hui seems to draw a good neighborhood crowd. Check it out!

I live up the street and come here fairly often. Delicious food and fun service are the norm! Everyone that complains about occasional slowness doesn’t realize there’s only one person attending to everyone and only a few guys in the kitchen. Take a chill pill and enjoy the atmosphere! Da grindz plate is well worth the wait.

This place is awesome!!! Been here on several occasions and all the bartenders are fabulous!!! Of course Ellen is hilarious and keeps the place entertained and rockn n rollin! Heather is super sweet and makes a mean bloody mary! Elizabeth was good too, until she left. Food is fantastic! Have to try the ribs, fatty deliciousness!!! Also the sliders are hard to pass up! Even the yakisoba noodles are great. Hard to go wrong here with stiff drinks, good food and super fun service. Feels like Cheers :)

Went in looking for some Hawaiian style food. After being ignored, while business was slow, they finally took our food and drink order. The drinks were affordable. However the food was bland and nothing close to even what I was use to finding in the slums of the island(Oahu) The kicker was that half our food was given to a different table! So they made us wait another 20 minutes for a order of fries! In short. The food is a joke, the service is a joke. If you are looking to get drunk and eat some horrid food then go crazy, but in Portland you can do a lot better for the same price.

I love this place. Went in for a few drinks and Ellen the bartender was so cool and funny! She was so accommodating and made the best drinks I’ve had in the longest time. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. I will definitely be going back!

My morning turd has more personality than the bar staff here. Coke seems to be the common denominator. A much better business model could utilize this space. Simply put… this place is a rat nest.

Ellen just served me while saying«I literally just puked 3x» After I said whoa ok why are you serving then she responded by saying «Hahah bitch then don’t drink the fucking beer I’ll take it away from you» Awful service with horrible manners. Just because you served me a beer does not mean it’s okay to call me a bitch. Unacceptable. It’s ridiculous that Portland has the«hipster» vibe and this is what we get. Don’t bother with this bar Ellen makes it the worst experience.

I stumbled into a happy hour one night at 11 and had some amazing sliders. I’ve been back several times for those amazing pork sliders with slaw for $ 1 and wash them down with $ 1PBR and $ 1 well shots. They have 3 happy hours and I’ve been to the 6−7pm and 11pm-12am but haven’t been to the 11 am one. This is a bar. If you’re a high maintenance person this dive bar that has a damned good cook and plays mostly old school punk and other good music just chill out and have fun… Or hit a TGIF. Great place — my buddies and I usually get 4 – 6 of the top flight sliders each. Yep. Yum.

It’s not a Hawaiian restaurant in the sense that you’d just go for a sit-down meal. So if you’re planning to venture out Foster for a quaint dinner date, think twice. Now, if you want to come for stiff drinks, a very un-pretentious crowd, a semi-Hawaiian vibe, and all the character and edge that a Foster bar has to offer, you can’t go wrong. AND… you can soak up the stiff drinks with some halfway decent Hawaiian food, too. And it’s not expensive. Remember, drinks come first; food is secondary. Also, don’t come in with your nose up or act like some hip kid with taste… that may be corrected real quick: staff and patrons won’t put up with it, and the crowd is as real as it gets. I’m glad it’s in my neighborhood… hopefully it doesn’t go the way of other edgy-but-real and unpretentious establishments in Portland. I would have given it five stars, but that’s reserved for places that I can take the in-laws…this isn’t that place.
