Drinks were great, try the«Last Kind Word!» Our bartender Dee deserves an award for mixologist of the year. He was friendly, charismatic, and professional. We had a blast!

I used to love this place but after our experience tonight I probably won’t be going back. I was with a group of friends and one of the bar tenders assumed that one of our friend’s ID was fake. There was no verification process behind it. They were very unprofessional.

Was at an art show across the street from dig a pony and we decided to go in and get drinks. There were 5 of us all between the ages of 25 and 30. The bartender immediately decided that one of my friend’s ID’s was fake even though it was issued to her by the oregon state dmv 5 years ago and she has been using it to prove her age since then. Not only did she decide it was fake because who knows why but she was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. As we were discussing going somewhere else where they had bartenders with brains and eyeballs I overheard her telling two men at the bar that, «Oh that girl tried to give me a fake ID.» We were all literally dumbfounded. Needless to say we will never be back.

Every time I hang out at Dig A Pony I have a great time. They have picnic tables outside and the inside is pretty spacious. About two thirds of the space turns into a dance floor after a certain hour. Drinks and food are good.

This place is horrible. It’s barely crowded in here right now on Sunday night(Memorial Day weekend) and they won’t let our wedding party in. Presumably because several members are Mexican and Black. Forget this place. This is a very special night for our friend and the fact that there is plenty of room yet some members aren’t being allowed in is upsetting. Telling of Portland’s true nature.

Awesome spot! Took a while to get drinks but bartender was nice, crowd was fun, and building was cool.

The happy hour has changed. $ 1 off everything(good). No more $ 6 bacon cheeseburger on an English muffin(bad… Really really bad). I haven’t been here for a Boozey late night for a long time. But it’s cool to sit during happy hour(4 – 6 Mon-Sat, all day Sun) by the big windows and watch the world go by. Nice chill music and friendly enough bar staff.

Definitely didn’t dig the pony(sorry had to be done). Vibe was totally hipster, and that’s never a real problem for me, just left me feeling a little, blah. I’ll call their draft list, balanced yet intriguing, first place ice seen a Fat Heads FemperIpa on draft outside the pearl, and I was really looking forward to my fried plantains that tasted, well, like nothing really. Hard 3 stars here.

It’s like being in a private high school where all the students are snide rich kids. Add alcohol and more facial hair and you have Dig A Pony. If you aren’t made of money or look the part, you’re ignored by bartenders and given glares by the bouncer. If you love stroking your own ego and going out to be looked at and not have a good time this bar is for you.

Sunday night not too crowded and they played all the 90s/early 2000 R&B and Hip-Hop. I heard everything from Biggie to 112 to Faith Evans. The music was definitely something I lean towards more when going out with some friends. There isn’t a designated dance spot, but there is a an open space near the bar. People were just kind of dancing and feeling the music form wherever they were at. Didn’t get the hipster vibe. This was probably the place where I saw the most people of color in all of Portland, so it was a bit comforting knowing I wasn’t one of the few brown people. It wasn’t crowded at all when I went. There were a good enough people to where all the seats and booths were filled, which is surprising considering it was a Sunday night. I definitely thought it was would be empty. Fatal Friendship and 86 Tears were pretty good. More on the sweet/citrus side of mixed drinks. Would I come here again? Yep, unless it gets ridiculously packed like how some of the other reviews said.

Dig A Pony is both a cool spot for late night dancing, and early evening quiet chilling. They’ve got a great list of yummy creative drinks and pretty good beer selections. If you are bar hopping over in SE/MLK area definitely stop in for at least a drink. Crowd can be kind of weird here sometimes, a weird blend of hipster/clubby but it’s an otherwise good spot. Also, great burger last year during burger week :)

I just dropped in this place on a Wednesday night while waiting to meet friends for dinner. It’s busy enough to show how much people appreciate this place– but not uncomfortably busy as many places are in Portland. I once gave up on ordering Old Fashioneds ‘anywhere’ because they were always made hideously wrong and I would only politely accept them and know not to order them again. But I looked at their menu here and noticed that they showed some promise. The polite, attentive, handsome, quick-handed bartender, Ben, assured me that they made good ones. I ordered one, and it was the best one I’ve had in Portland(besides the ones I make at home of course, based on the original recipe). Ben at Dig A Pony makes the best Old Fashioneds in Portland, OR. Try one now…(And this place’s food looks incredible.)

What’s not to love about this place. An overnight sensation named after the owners favorite Beatles song. The food rocks, it’s not all your basic bar stuff. The drinks are awesome. The dim lighting and décor is well done and fits the Portland scene perfectly without being too hipster. Highly recommend.

Great spot if you’re looking for a place with music and drinks. We came on a Sunday night so I don’t think it was as packed as everyone said it was. We were able to get a table and hang out for a bit. Had a couple drinks, not bad! I’m definitely diggin’ it for sure!

Calling all hipsters!!! Calling all hipsters! Man buns are a plenty here and we were the only brown people inside, and it was full! Came on a rainy Thursday night before a show and we actually got a table! Too bad the douche bags behind us didn’t move their jackets off our booth, so I had to politely throw it back at them! Gave this place 4 stars for the service, not the atmosphere. You have to order at the bar, but our bartender was nice and let us split our drink bills. She made some good beer suggestions as well and served us promptly, with a full bar of people. The food was good too, surprisingly for a bar. I can’t understand why there were so many people on this dark establishment, but I’d come again for a quick drink before a show.

They do have good drinks and for the most part a good atmosphere. I had a cucumber lemon drink with vodka which was great. There’s always a wide variety of people which makes for a good time. It’s more of an older crowd(as in not 21 year olds) which I appreciate. There are a lot of other good places in the area, so it’s a good location for going out.

Okay, we came here in Labor Day and I totally get it, it’s a Monday, why on earth is anyone here? The drinks were alright. I had the spicy tequila drink and my throat was miserable by the next morning(idk why this was a good idea). I will say, it was a good experience that I probably don’t want to try again. Aside from the creepy décor, bartenders were alright. We couldn’t seem to get much attention even though we were sitting at the bar. I get it, slow and late night but it was a bit of a bummer to end the night in that particular atmosphere. Either way, I’d still say try this place out of you’re into cocktails. But was it a big«oh my gosh you have to go» type of deal? Not so much.

Loretta told me that I could find a sloe gin fizz in Portland. She said that the city’s sloe gin is mighty fine, both by the pitcher and by the glass and I was looking forward to this fine cocktail. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find it anywhere in Portland. Five bars, five strike-outs. I guess Loretta and Jack gave me bad advice. Oh well. Dig a Pony did look like the place that might have a sloe gin fizz or some kind of interesting variation. It looks like a classic cocktail bar with a beautiful full horseshoe bar, an inviting dark wood and black leatherette décor and handsome bartenders. They certainly had an interesting cocktail menu which included some exotic liqueur ingredients including Cynar(made partially from artichokes), Crème de Cassis and Herbsaint. Sadly no sloe gin. But they did have a delicious sazerac with the traditional New Orleans liqueur Herbsaint, which is both authentic and delicious. Also great was the Saturday Afternoon, a cocktail that combined coffee, root beer, cream and vodka that was a nice update on the White Russian that I think even Mr. Lebowski would enjoy. Dig a Pony also has some delicious, affordable and generous apportioned appetizers(most only $ 5 – 6). I particularly liked the Brussels sprouts with a salty/sweet/sour bacon sherry vinaigrette and the addictive fried plantains served with a wonderful pineapple mojo. It’s a smart, well-crafted menu in a southern/pan-Creole tradition… worth going for the food alone. Even though I left Portland without the drink promised by everyone’s favorite Coal Miner’s Daughter, I did experience a classic cocktail bar, great service and delicious food. If that ain’t love, tell me what is?

This place is super cool. I think it’s like a hidden gem, to be honest. I couldn’t really decide what kind of feel they were going for, southern, western but it’s something of the sort. The place is pretty new inside, and clean! They actually have a pretty cool faucet for people to grab water with in one of the corners, which is great. And it’s a really open floor plan. Like oddly open. There so much space! The bar is great, they have multiple bartenders working so you get noticed and your drinks pretty quick. They have a super cool menu(see pic) with specialty cocktails as well as some food items. Recommendation: their Beignets! SO mouthwatering good. I can’t some more right now. Only downfall is that it is a little pricey. They do have a happy hour though so can’t wait to check that out
