Elite Event: Sunday Funday @ Lompoc Sidebar

Awesome event put together by Matt E and thanks to Unilocal and Lompoc for hosting. This was my first Unilocal elite event and I loved it. The event featured great sample of food and beer and cornhole game (with prizes)
The hosts were awesome and encouraged us try all the different beer selection. I had so much fun trying the different brews and also got a great tour of the fermentation process. The cornhole game was fun. The food was the highlight though with 3 different flavored wings, amazing mac n cheese and fried artichokes.
Overall A++ event and the best part was the parting gift. A saison de L’Evolution a belgian style brew from Lompoc. I am sold as a repeat customer here.

What a fun experience! The Pamplemousse IPA was the star of the day right alongside the fabulous wings and artichoke fritters. There was an amazing array of fabulous food and I will definitely be back to try more. It takes a lot for me to start turning food down… and they had so much here I left thinking there was no possible way I could try anything else. I loved the backstage look at the brewery too — it was a fun, sunny beer drinking day.

Unilocal Elite events are always a treat for me. And this one was no exception. I wasn’t aware that the Sidebar existed. But I’ll definitely go back. Even cooler is that another Lompoc (the 5Q) is right next door. How awesome is that?
The event featured a great sample of appetizers, including mac and cheese, wings, pizza, and sliders. And, of course, 4 great beers to choose from. The standouts for me were the beef sliders and the artichokes with Aioli. I love that the Aioli had basil in it… Yum!
There was bean bag (cornhole) toss in the back room. I got it in the hole on the first try, but due to performance anxiety missed the other two holes (that sounded dirty but it was good clean fun! Honest). My friend and I each won a pint glass. And, as a lovely parting gift for attending, we got a bottle of Saison de L’Evolution, their Belgian-​style Ale. Best of all, I met some really cool people… Lompoc staff and fellow Unilocal Elites. Great job, Matt! Keep up the great work!

This event was AWESOME. Though, I wish my cornhole skills had been a little more on point so I could have taken home more fabulous prizes (maybe a few more beers were in order?).
Lots of tasty food and beer and even a little to go present, you guys really spoiled us rotten! The weather was even perfect so they could open the place up!

Eliters mix so well with sun and Lompoc beer! The perfect sunny day to kick up our heels on the couch and lounge with lots of first timers at Lompoc Sidebar.
We were greeted with an awesome selection of Pamplemousse IPA, Saison, Proletariat Red, & Ultra Hoppy Sour Spy IPA. A and I tried them all between the 2 of us. All were delish. I loved the Saison & he was a fan of the Red.
Unfortunately we ate a huge breakfast beforehand, but the lovely Lompoc ladies kept offering us more. There was mac & cheese, 3 kinds of wings, artichoke fritters, Portobello flatbread, burger & pulled pork sliders.
We headed out back for some cornhole. I totally sucked, but A got 1 of 3 and went home with a pint glass! We also asked for a brewery tour and it was so neat to see the process. I’m super into bread making right now and it was fun to see how similar fermentation of beer and bread are.
We were also lucky enough to hang with some Eliters for their first time event as well as bonded with other longer time Eliters we had never met before!

This is one of the most awesome and wholesome Unilocal events at the Lompoc Sidebar. The food and beer were plentiful. There were 3 varieties of chicken wings (jerk, Asian and classic buffalo styles). There were also hamburger and pulled pork sliders, Mac and cheese and my favorite surprise was the artichoke fritters. The beer selection includes a few IPAs, a saison and a red (all were quite hoppy).
After one filled the belly, there was a cornhole game. It was fun and definitely challenging. The staff was so attentive and super nice. It was our first time being at the Sidebar and we will definitely come back to hang out sometime.

Food. And lots of it. I so very much regret eating before I came to this event! You never really know how much food will be available at an event, and I didn’t want to take my chances on this particular morning/​afternoon (as I was fighting off the dreaded hangover set in), so of course I hit up a (giant) brunch before the event. Such a rooky mistake. There was so much food available at this event and it was all delicious. I forced myself to eat before I left. I was so stuffed, but I could note bare leaving here without trying the food. I couldn’t quite find the room for one of those sliders, but they sure looked tasty. The mac & cheese was the winner of the day in this gals book.
The beer. And lots of it. I was personally a fan of the Ultra Hoppy Sour Spy IPA. It tastes delicious, but the name is a little misleading. I did not find it to be that hoppy at all. I did catch the sour notes in there and I think that is what I really like about it. My boyfriend and I spent some time talking to some of the brewers and got some insight on some of their techniques. Interesting stuff. They were very friendly and seemed eager to answer any beer questions we threw their way. We even picked up a few bottles to take home.
Corn hole. What a great idea. I didn’t win anything (story of my life), but what a good idea!
Swag Bags. Neat-​o! Gift certificate AND a bottle. Thanks Lompoc :-) You guys impressed this Unilocaler. Now that I know about this place and what it has to offer, I will be back for sure! I love this neighborhood and frequent this area often and now I have another landing spot.

My first Unilocal Elite event everrrrrrrr! Fun (beer tasting, the super Pamplemousse IPA) and interesting (a new friend!) and tasty (my reason, of course). So exciting!
I gave 5 stars for the beer and the organised event and the presentation and location (easy to park!), but in all honesty I would have given only 3 stars (almost feeling fuilty here) for the food component: together a 4 star actually. Why? Because my wings were dryish (and for me, picky as I am, over-​seasoned – I was so happy to have a beer in my hand to wash it down with, but I will admit it here – I am a wus when it comes to heat). I did try the artichokes, and they were delicious though a bit on the greasy side. Thank g+d there was grrrrreat beer present!
I wished I had had a chance to sample the burger, but I was wayyyy too busy checking out the beer brewery in the back, learning from Brian and Ceci how it comes down to a science at some points, and playing Bunghole – thank you for the fun stuff to do! Their beer is great, definitely GO there to sample different types. Brian explained how they have certain types brewing year round, and the delicate process of adding specialty beers along the way, depending on the season and their desire to experiment with different ingredients.
Way to go Lompoc!

First Unilocal event and absolutely loved it. Matt E. and the folks at Sidebar were the most awesome hosts. Cody at the bar was really knowledgeable about beers. Loved their saison. Perfect summer beer. And they kept bringing in food! Delicious chicken wings, Argentinian sliders, pulled pork sliders, fried artichokes… endless really. Made some new friends as well. After today totally looking forward to the next Unilocal event.

Awesome place, with amazing staff. I had a great time sampling some of their beers, and tasting items from their food menu. The staff was excellent, and did everything with a smile.
I loved that we were allowed to walk through the brewery area, and see all the great things Lompoc is working on. Also getting the play cornhole (even if they were calling it «bunghole»,) in a brewery was an awesome idea.
I’ve been a big fan if Lompoc for some time now, and was thrilled to get a bit of a behind the scenes glance at one of my favorite local breweries.

Coming off a couple days of the flu, this was more food than I should have even been able to look at. The waittresses passing sliders almost put me over the edge. But the food was really good! Particularly the burgers and sesame wings. I didnt know what the artichoke dsih was, thought it was potatoes so I passed. I was sorry later when I had no more room in my tummy. I tried the «pamplemousse» beer, which was light and refreshing. The tables were mostly filled so Michael and I sat at the bar. The bartenders could not have been more sociable and welcoming. All in all, a really nice event. I want to hang out here, and I’m not really even a beer person! Thanks Lampoc and Unilocal

I’ve been to a Lompoc before, but not this one, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I really like this location (which is the one with the brewery).
The abundance of food was a nice surprise. The food was arranged buffet style with servings of mac & cheese and 3 types of wings (buffalo, sweet sesame chicken, and Caribbean). The wings were really good– jumbo and all flavored very well. Usually I find Caribbean wings dry and underwhelming, but these were great! Just when I thought I had enough, waitresses came around with portobello flat breads w/​balsamic, pulled pork sliders, and beef sliders. We topped it off with a sour IPA, a saison, and a pamplemousse IPA. The «bunghole» competition was a nice addition, but alas, I suck at the game and only won a sticker.
What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

A perfect event for this sunny Sunday afternoon~. I hadn’t been to Sidebar before nor had I tried Lumpoc beer, so this was an awesome introduction. The airy interior of the bar opened out onto the sidewalk, with comfy couch seating near the opening. Past the bar area loomed the brewery which would be fun to tour sometime.
My favorite dish was their portobello flatbread which I’m now dying to recreate at home — the sautéed mushroom was accompanied with mozzarella, gorgonzola, a sweet balsamic reduction, thyme, and parsley, and the flat bread had a really great chewy quality.
I also loved the mac and cheese — creamy with red bell peppers and the perfect amount of toasty breadcrumbs on top. The artichoke frites were unique and came with an amazing garlic aioli.
I had glasses of their Pamplemousse IPA and Proletariat Red — both were excellent, especially the latter which had notes of cinnamon.
Loved the friendly staff! Loved how badly I failed at corn hole! And a 22 of saison as a party favor is the bomb! Thanks Matt and Sidebar for organizing this great party!

In the words of a beloved American hero «Mmmmm…beeeeerrr.»
We like beer, as most Portlanders do, so I was pretty bummed we got waitlisted for this event. But wait! The beer gods cast their eyes upon the Earth to grant us a favor, and we got the all clear to join the party!
The weather was perfect, the space was the perfect size for the amount of attendees, the beer choices were awesome, and although I couldn’t shove anymore food in my fat mouth after our epic brunch the choices were bountiful and looked delicious. Between JAM and I we sampled all four pours: Sour, Pamplemousse IPA, Prol Red, and a Saission. All were good, although we agreed that the sour wasn’t really all that sour.
The best part of any Unilocal get-​together is always the awesome Unilocalers. We had some lovely conversation and made some new friends, and it seemed there was a nice amount of mingling going around. The bartender, Cody, was also super nice, as were all of the staff walking around offering food, clearing tables, or making sure we had everything we wanted.
A huge thanks to Matt E. and the folks at Lompoc! Can’t wait to crack open that big ol’ Saisson and visit Lompoc again soon!
