Description

Specialties

Sidebar is our barrel tasting room and bottleshop, located just around the corner from the 5Q. Enjoy a variety of barrel aged and seasonal specialty beers available in limited quantities. We also offer a full bar with specialty cocktails, plus wine and non-alcoholic beverages. We offer merchandise and beer to go.

History

Established in 2009.

We opened Sidebar, our barrel tasting room, in July 2009. We were beginning to do more barrel aging and brewing a lot of specialty beers at the time. We wanted to combine a rentable space with a beer-centric tasting room to showcase these special one-offs. Sidebar is the venue of choice for most of our release parties and is available for meetings and get-togethers (check out the communal table episode in season three of Portlandia!).

Meet the Business Owner

Jerry F.

Business Owner

Jerry arrived in Portland from Ohio in 1990 and began a string of odd jobs in a search to find himself. He took up homebrewing in 1993, and the next summer, took a course at the Seibel Institute of Technology to learn all aspects of running a brewery. He built the The New Old Lompoc brewery and began brewing in 1996; he went on to grow a family of pubs that today consists of Lompoc Tavern, Hedge House, Oaks Bottom, Fifth Quadrant and Sidebar. Jerry is a huge soccer fan — you’ll nearly always find a soccer game on the TV in the pubs — as well as a Steelers fan.
