5 stars for the beers. In fact the Ace Pineapple cider is worth the trip alone. The food however is zero star. We got 2 different kinds of samdwhiches and both had a fishy taste which is jusy really weird. Maybe it was the mayo? Included ruffle chips. I’ll pass next time on the food.

Amazing, personal, fresh. Hope new location doesn’t take away from the experience they have created.

Most of the fancy restaurants I’ve been to are typically French-inspired American/Californian food, so Fenrir was an amazing change of pace. The Scandinavian inspiration is apparent from the first glacé of the menu — lots of pickled stuff and the proteins are distinctly«rustic». Lamb neck was really delicious, tender and perfectly seasoned. We also got the rabbit, which was different and well flavored but didn’t have the wow factor of the lamb. During our 3 days in Portland, boyfriend and I were feeling like most of the restaurants we ate at were heavy on the salt, but not Fenrir! Great balance of flavors in every dish. Thanks guys for the great experience!

This place is a hidden gem, with the hidden part being literal — I passed right by the first time, since the unassuming entrance is overshadowed by Cellar Door’s window signage. My husband and I had an unforgettable meal here tonight, starting with the wonderfully fresh half shell oysters, then the acidic trout and savory shallot entrees, and ending with the best dessert we’ve ever tasted: house-made corn ice-cream with blackberries on top. It doesn’t sound particularly appealing, especially with my strong favoritism for anything chocolate, and seemed risky given that it was the ONLY dessert offering, but the ice-cream captured the sweetness and essence of corn, left a rich buttery aftertaste and transformed into a tarty delight with a bite with blueberry. Definitely the most creative dessert I’ve ever encountered and yet not one I would’ve ever ordered given multiple options, so it was smart of them to only have one dessert choice. Service was attentive and quick, although there was only one other party there. This place should be packed, but I imagine the pricing might be confusing, because Fenrir is actually high-end food priced affordably. Thus the portions are small, the flavors are bold, the drinks are strong, everything’s made in-house(including their soda), but the bill doesn’t quite match the caliber of the meal you’ve just been treated to.

Awesome. Try the pork rinds. They are the best pork rinds I have ever had, by far. I also especially liked the cocktails.

I really really wanted to give this place 5 stars but held back for 1 reason only. Let’s start with all the positives of this great restaurant based on the upstairs of an apartment with lovely ambience… FOOD was delicious, flavorful, thoughtful, even whimsical. This is my second trip to Fenrir and today, between my friend and I, we shared the turnips app, spring salad, scallops, and lamb neck. Everything was wonderful but the salad was a standout. I was scraping every last bit off the plate. The scallops were perfectly cooked with a nice carrot purée on the side, and the lamb neck was soooo incredibly tender, you’d wonder why you would order any other cut of the lamb. The food combinations were just bursts of flavors in your mouth. Now, the only reason why I didn’t give Fenrir 5 stars… after ordering an app, salad, and 2 entrees, I WASSTILLHUNGRY! The food is beautifully plated, well seasoned, but tiny portions! Maybe I’m still in that phase where if I spend about $ 20 on an entrée, I’d like to have leftovers to take home, in which case, Fenrir is not the right place, but I don’t like to leave a restaurant hungry after spending over $ 30. When I’m rolling in the dough, I will order everything off the menu and leave happy and satisfied, but until then 4 stars for Fenrir until they increase their portions.

This restaurant is AMAZING. It is thoughtful, intentional, delicious and so very interesting. I went with my husband and two friends on a Thursday night. We made a reservation(which they gloriously accept). They have a lovely, interesting cocktail menu as well as a really good few taps and wine list to choose from. All good choices, clearly well thought out. The food. For starters, we had pork rinds, pickled eggs, oysters, pickled mushrooms and a cup of the soup, which was roasted mushroom. Everything was pitch perfect– but the soup was the standout. It was pureed and I don’t know exactly what was in it(I don’t think cream, so it must have been wizardry), but it was truly memorable. For entrees, we shared the rabbit, trout, lamb neck and the marrow. Each thing was independently wonderful, so it is hard to pick a favorite, but the trout was easily the best trout I’ve ever had. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and somehow also perfectly deboned. The lamb neck was also a standout– braised and then fried to melty, tender, crispy perfection. The rabbit also was delightful– crepinette is a bit like sausage, but with rabbit it was so so delicious. The marrow was perfect– several of our party had not had marrow previously, so it was nice to offer them the superlative version for their first try. For dessert, we shared the only option– cilantro cake with lemon curd and yogurt ice cream. It sounds weird, and it was weird, if weird means«a thing you have never thought of or considered for a dessert, of ingredients you would never ever put together, but which was in fact so tasty and interesting that you felt like giving the person who thought of it a high five for sheer creativity». Fenrir is SOGOOD. I can’t wait to have dinner here as often as humanly possible forever.

Second time lucky here! The first time we went they had run out of food(i’m not kidding, not a menu item but all of it), my curiosity was therefore doubled and I diligently returned the next week and a little earlier in hopes that they still would have some food left, and they did: P It was about a 30 min wait on a Friday night, but the place is set right in somebody’s dining room so number of tables are limited hence the wait. Plus they have reservations so my fault for not noticing that! We started off with the soup of the day which was served cold but delicious, and it went excellently with our strong scandinavian cocktails. Between the table I think we tried all the entrees, the rabbit, lamb neck and the marrow. All were excellently prepared and had distinct flavor profiles. The quality of the meat and other ingredients were top notch. Our server was great and knowledgeable and was able to explain all the menu items very well.

Went here with my wife and brought a friend along with us, what a great night! The owner(Tyler) was working the bar and we asked him to feed us and make us some great drinks and he definitely did not disappoint! Very unique and delicious cocktails! The food he chose for us was all interesting and delicious. Great ambiance, top notch service, and clearly these folks but a lot of thought into everything they do. They keep the ingredients super fresh and seem to be very innovative in making as much as they can in-house. I highly recommend this intimate Portland treasure! See all the !!!

Went here with high expectations. And came back stuffed and satisfied. They’ve lots of Icelandic drinks on their menu. Some of them quite strong. Some of them fennel flavored. Almost all of them very good and must try. The herring was rich, fatty and delicious, which goes perfectly with their homemade bread. The soup of the day was cooling and a good complement to our meat heavy fare. I tried the bone marrow. It’s a bit of effort to dig out all the goodies. But they’re oh-so-worth it! I think next time I’ll try the rabbit. Not nearly as gamy as I expected and deliciously prepared. The staff were very courteous and helpful. And the ambience of a slightly old apartment gives it a nice, homely feel.

Took my partner to Fenrir for his birthday. Space is small and intimate, perfect for our evening. The pickled mackerel was his favorite. Great texture and flavor. The pickled mushroom was good as well. We ordered the scallops and marrow for our main course along with a negroni, mead and a seasonal cocktail to wash it down. Presentation and taste were optimal. Unfortunately they had sold out of the lamb neck and rabbit. But we thoroughly enjoyed all of the offerings we devoured during our visit.

Definitely off the beaten path! If you’re in the area and want a drink, try this place. You will not be disappointed. Casual atmosphere. Seating upstairs and just feels like you’re in someone’s home dining room. I thoroughly enjoyed the Brussels sprouts, bone marrow, vegetable salad, and the fried sablefish. They ran out of the duck and flaeskesvaer so will try it on my next visit. Drinks cocktails were quite interesting and sounded delicious since most of them are custom and homemade. Will try it next time. Really good quality food! Will definitely be back.

The soup and the Brussels sprout are great, all in all good food. Drinks and wines are great too, they have a wine cellar in a closet with lock. long wine list, that I like. It was one of my birthday dinner, they gave me any Calbury chocolate egg for dessert with a candle. the setting is cute, but only one bathroom, but you can lay in the bath tub with all the cushions in it.

Top notch from start to finish. Service– outstanding and knowledgeable, cocktails– homemade and delicious(I rarely even order them, usually get beer), entrees were completely as described and delicious. Real down home feel and cool, chill ambiance. One of few five stars I’ve given on Unilocal.Highly deserve them.

I’ve lived in Portland for almost a decade and I can easily say this is one of the top five places I’ve ever eaten. From the drink pairings to dessert course everything about eating here was a supreme pleasure. The atmosphere is cozy and the menu is tantalizing. I was charmed by the staff and impressed by the cooking. I can’t give this place enough stars.

I stumbled in here for dinner on a weekend visit to Portland. The atmosphere is super cute, and the service was fantastic. I often find myself feeling awkward when I go out to dinner alone, but for some reason, this feels like the perfect place to do that. It also felt like a great place to take a date. I got the marrow, because I’ve been interested in trying marrow for a while. It was fantastic. I have no frame of reference, because I’ve never had marrow before — but I have a gut feeling they did it really well. The radicchio that came with it was also delightful. Their cocktail list also looked yummy, next time I go I’ll be sure to try one.

Everything is beautifully done at Fenrir. It is truly a hidden gem in Portland, situated in a charming Victorian house atop Cellar Door Coffee Roasters. The menu is seasonal and thoughtfully curated. I enjoyed fried brussels sprouts, a roasted squash soup, a buckwheat cake with oyster mushrooms and smoky pepper purée, and a sweet black truffle cocktail. The chefs at Fenrir excel in adventurous, yet incredibly balanced, flavors. For me, each dish resonated like comfort food, yet they also shone with bold, creative streaks. I highly recommend Fenrir for its inventive compositions, and I cannot say enough about its wonderful staff. All were friendly, warm, and knowledgable. Meat and fish stand out on their menu, but I’m vegan; they were most accommodating in making something special that fit my preferences. Co-owners Ian, Tyler, and John James – thank you!

Hidden. Like a wolves in their lair, these crafty carnivores craft culinary creations that are both aggressive and assertive. They dare to utilize cuts of meat that are not all that ordinary. My Potatis Korv WAS a potato sausage with pork skin and lamb belly. My wife had bone marrow served on the bone. Each entrée had a treat of cabbage. We decided not to get wine(mostly by the bottle) and settled on cocktails. The host is a good mixologist. Dimly lit for long and casual interludes, the pace is comfortably slow. The bar is begging for company as it lays in wait. Too bad. The tab for that night, including oysters(two), was less than $ 50! Awesome !! I want to come back and try the braised sheep neck. I know I won’t be disappointed . Again with the bike parking???

Romantical little spot in inner SE Portland. Casual atmosphere, with a stellar, upscale & revolving menu. Friendly, knowledgeable, & unpretentious staff; low on the attitude scale. Cap this off with craft cocktails, a proper wine list, and season beer selection, you an establishment deserving of all 5 stars.

I finally found a restaurant that serves Scandinavian style cuisine in Portland. Everything we tasted was seasoned to perfection. Although the ingredients used were simple they were able to pair and highlight each ingredient’s flavor to make each dish well balanced and delicious. I love how all of their ingredients are from the Northwest and their seafood is oh so fresh and succulent. If you like pickled food then this place is for you, because these guys have it down to a science. The service was excellent. The servers were polite, informed, and attentive to our dining needs. The atmosphere was cozy, warm, and inviting. It felt like an old world European dining room. All in all our dining experience exceeded all expectations and we would gladly return.
