Description

Specialties

Float On is the largest flotation tank center in the United States. We are focused on making floating as relaxing and affordable as possible.

When you float you won’t be fighting gravity — the 850 pounds of epsom salt in the water takes care of that. The water is kept at 93.5 degrees. This is skin-receptor neutral which means you can’t tell where your body ends and the water begins. Your ears stay just below the water and the tanks are insulated against sound. After you shut the door and turn off the light you can’t see anything. For an hour and a half the outside world is gone, and amazing things happen. It turns out that when you’re not fighting gravity or constantly taking in information your body has a lot of extra resources at its disposal. Your mind is free to mull things over without distraction, your brain pumps out dopamine and endorphins, and your body gets to rest, de-stress, and heal.

Floating at Float On is likely to be the most relaxing thing you’ve ever experienced.

History

Established in 2010.

Sometimes things just click into place. FloatOn took only 152 days to go from a conversation to the opening day of a 4-tank float center on Hawthorne Blvd.

Graham and Quinn have been best friends since high school. Shortly before Graham dragged him up to live in Portland in late 2009, Quinn went on his first float. He loved it. In May of 2010, the two of them sat down to drink and hash out some basic numbers on what it might take to start up float business. They started by reviewing all of the float centers in Oregon (there were only four, and one of them had just gone out of business). On their second float they met Christopher, who was running a single tank out of his apartment. The three clicked immediately, and decided that if the opportunity ever arose they’d talk about opening a float business together. They didn’t expect it to happen so mind-numbingly fast.
