Fred Meyer Jewelers

If I could give this place less than 1 star I would. This review is for our experience a few years ago.
My husband (then boyfriend) went here for my engagement ring. He was 18 years old and knew nothing about jewelry and trusted the sales associate. He looked around and picked a beautiful ring. It had a Tanzanite center stone, 4 small diamonds on each side in a platinum band. The sales associate explained that tanzanite is a very soft stone, therefor he should purchase the warranty as well. He went ahead and made the purchase warranty and all. I loved that ring and was extremely careful with it knowing it was a soft stone. I took it off before putting my hands in water, or doing anything where it could get damaged. In just 3 months the stone chipped and was loose. We took it in and they said that their warranties don’t cover soft stones. Um, what? Then why did the convince him to buy one. They gave us a quote to replace the stone. The $ they gave us was just a few dollars less than what he had paid for it. We decided to have it looked at somewhere else, where we got another surprise. The band is not platinum, it is white gold. They told us the approximate cost of a ring like this in most places, and it was it was a fraction of what he had paid for it.
I wanted to keep the ring to wear occasionally, but decided to get something else more durable for everyday basis. For this I obviously went to a different jeweler. We explained what happened and they were shocked. One thing they told us that really opened our eyes was that businesses should not charge extra for warranties. We were very happy with our service from them.
Needless to say, we will NEVER shop and Fred Meyer Jewelers again.
