Good food, horrible service. They brought out the food for the other person I was eating with and by the time my food came out he was done eating. The curry was really good. Probably best to order take out. The food was good, but it wasn’t fantastic. Not worth the wait.

Bun rieu and spicy beef noodle soup were bomb. Both were very hot, large potions and Just WOW. Great holiday spirit and very homey feel on a cold cloudy day. Highly recommended! Price is fair $ 8 – 10 and only street parking. It’s next to an auto shop too.

Time slows down here. Literally because it will take a bit longer for your meal than any other restaurant. Very good local Vietnamese place. This place takes a lot of time preparing your meal so make sure you grab a snack before coming. I had the catfish and soup. Both were good. The rice was a little dry. Overall very tasty. Don’t forget to pick up your sauces from the sauce cart! You will definitely enjoy the food, but slightly because of the wait. Staff so sweet you might have a toothache too!

Theres authentic Vietnamese food restaurants that taste like wood and then you have places like this. «Authenticity» is word that comes to mind, followed by, «Scrumptious». These food is good and around my neiborhood. If ya like spicey, try the variety of hot oils they have. They’re redunculous…

We had the Phở, we really wanted Phở.
It wasn’t as good as we wanted it to be, in fact ²⁄₃ of the proteins were not very tasty (the tripe and the meatballs) but it was very satisfying.

The wings are to die for. Forget Pok Pok’s «Best Wings in Portland» title because whoever wrote that has clearly not ventured out far enough to find truly authentic, delicious food. Pok Pok is good. But Hanoi Kitchen is great. My boyfriend and I cannot stop eating here. The atmosphere is quiet and it’s never too busy. It’s a little hard to spot on the street but the best treasures are usually hidden.

I enjoy the range of flavors they have to offer. They offer much more than just phở and the food is always tasty.

Absolutely the best phở I’ve ever had! C1 is absolutely amazing! The salad rolls are the best in Portland! The service was wonderful! I can’t wait to come back and try other things on the menu!

I second all the good reviews. I don’t know Vietnamese food but I’m sure I just had someone cook me a real, homemade fresh, seasoned dinner. Shrimp rice crepes were good. White fish also excellent. All served with fresh green herbs — mint, cilantro, lemon balm, basil… Didn’t take long to get, but place was quiet. For those concerned about the wait, it is clearly because they are cooking your dinner hot and fresh. Not just serving it from a Bain Marie or microwave.
Servers knowledgable about the food and helpful.
Lots of pork & shrimp on the menu but definitely at least a few veggie options.

Let me start by saying you will be full when you leave here. The phở and lemongrass tofu were excellent. The herbs and spices that went into the phở were what made the dish, just spicy enough without killing the flavor. (Or the eater) We ordered a little bit of everything and the chef actually came out and joked with us about being so hungry. Super nice staff, excellent food, and super quiet/​mellow. I would recommend this place for sure.

I had the C1 BÚN BÒ GIÒ CUA, and I was amazed. It was rich, spicy, wholesome and I will be back for more. It had some pork in it which was good and it also had these crab patties that were so sweet and delicious. The raw herbs that came on the side provided the perfect relief for a soup this rich. At 8.50 $, you can’t find a more complex tasting soup.
It was one of those evenings. My wife and I felt as if we were coming down with a little cold. Usually that means we go get Phở, but I wanted to try something a bit more adventurous. Come treat yourself to this soup if you have the sniffles. It is spicy and will heat you up nicely.

Terrible customer service. Would not return. I went here with coworkers for a work lunch. There were 16 of us. I was one of the first to order but got my dish, a phở dish which should have been easy to fix, last. I observed the waitress serve other customers who arrived later with the same dish but I was last. She apologized and said there was only one cook and it was a small kitchen. And then gave my dish twice «mistakenly» to customers who arrived later who were not even part of our work party. I am not making this up, the waitress actually told me this!
Also one of my coworkers asked for hot water with her Vietnamese coffee and the waitress refused to provide this because «It’s not the way it is served». If I had not been with my coworkers, I would have walked out.
One of my coworkers told me two weeks later she went with a friend to this dive and the same waitress complained about our party and our company not providing enough tips for her. Unbelievable! Do not give any of your hard earned dollars to this terrible restaurant.

Outstanding Phở. This is my first visit to Portand, Oregon. There are very few franchises allowed to operate within the Portland City limits.
What a pleasure to see mom and pop restaurants thriving. The quality of food and service is outstanding.
I got the «c6» with chicken and no tripe. I’m going to get a «c7» tomorrow.
This is food at its best.

Short Story: An interesting Vietmanese place in a quiet area of Portland.
Long Story: We came here for a friend’s birthday and didn’t expect too much. But we were pleasantly surprised at the décor and ambiance inside. The tall windows and ceilings provided a comfortable space inside. The service was also top notch and the chef made a special dish for me as it was not on the menu.
I saw a Unilocal picture and he was able to replicate it. I had tried to order a Vietnamese kaibi dish but they didn’t have it. So the Unilocal picture was the next best thing. The service was superb with lots of coming over to ensure everything was good. The prices are pretty good too!
Verdict: I’ll be back the next time I’m in Portland.

I’m not an afficiendo of Vietnamese food, but I did stop by this place based on its Unilocal reviews. The atmosphere, staff, and food were all of incredible. Suggest it to the afficiendo or first timer.

I ordered the Banh Cuon Hanoi. It definitely taste quite a bit different from the traditional Banh Cuon I used to have before. I think they put in some really powder like flavored dried shrimp that you don’t find it in traditional Banh Cuon recipe. I think it has it special taste and it tastes good. Over all, I think it taste ok, but I was expecting the Banh Cuon to be a bit more thinner. I think the quantity is a bit small for the price of $ 7.75. The other dish is Bun Rieu. I don’t like it at all, I don’t like the fish ball with some stuffing inside and the flavor in the broth is very mediocre, nothing to be complimented about. One highlight about Bun Rieu is there is a lot of noodle.

I saw this place listed on Willamette Weekly cheap eats edition. I got the V6 Bun Dau Hu (vegetarian but with real fish sauce — they have vegan fish sauce for you vegans out there, but that’s a little unsettling to me). I had never had anything other than phở at Vietnamese restaurants but I think I’m a convert now. If anything the sauce was a little sweet but that’s just me. It was such a refreshing and simple dish.
The service was great. This a family run authentic place and I love that. Thumbs up!

5-​stars for banh cuon here. Not mainly places serve this dish and its so underrated!
However, minus one for the phở & bun bo hue lacked the strong flavor that both noodle dishes should have.
Service was really friendly & the dining experience was very peaceful! Would come back just to eat a few plates of banh cuon…

Queueing hipsters, listen up! Form an orderly line, because this here is a place for which, mysteriously, there is no wait. There really, really should be. Why Hanoi Kitchen isn’t packed to the gills every night with hungry locals and pilgriming peoples from nabes afar is beyond me — maybe it’s the unassuming storefront or the downmarket Glisan & 79^th location.
I dunno, but whatever it is, it means there’s plenty of space for ME, MYSELF and I (and 37 of my nearest and dearest) to feast noisily upon the spoils of Hanoi Kitchen. This here is a place you can go to get vast lakes of bomb-​diggity phở and other yummy Vietnamese vittles to go or to stay for dirt-​cheap prices.
I got the vegan phở (SO GOOD, so many veggies, tasty broth, plenty o’ noodles) and it came in a bowl easily the size of two of my heads. If you know anything about the size of my head, you too would be impressed. That’s a lot of phở! I ate dinner, got full, took the rest to go, and got two lunches out of it. All for like, $ 7. There is absolutely no way you can go wrong with that math.
Oh, and I know you’re thinking you’ll probably just get phở to go here. And that’s totally fine. Phở is a great hangover (er… «comfort») food, and you don’t want to change out of your jammies to sit politely in a restaurant. But let’s just say one day you’re NOT hungover (humor me!) — and you’ve got a craving. I highly suggest you try dining in here. Why? Because the table service actually errs on the side of doting. Our lovely waitress tended to us like we were kin, and provided us with SO MANY to go containers, all expertly wrapped up so as not to leak on the way home.
Conclusion: More people should come here.
