Here We Go Again

A wonderful store! Nice merchandise, displayed for easy access: not really designer or «high-​end.» Sales personnel are knowledgeable and polite: fun to work with! Of course it’s hit or miss: so are the super-​expensive retail stores these days! My adult daughter and I both found lots of items!

I had never been in before and i went in just to have a look around, the staff was busy with a couple of other ladies, but instead of being greeted i was just side-eyed…maybe because i don’t look like their normal clientele. I made my way to the XL size dresses, and everything was matronly, outdated, ugly, and extremely over priced for the brands/​quality considering they are used. The kicker was seeing a used skirt for $ 112…REALLY?!? It wasn’t even particularly attractive for that kind of price tag. I walked out.

I came in on a Thursday evening hoping to find some cold-​weather, business-​casual tops that I could use my Chinook Book coupon on. I browsed the sweater rack and found a few things I wanted to try on. From the beginning it was clear that this was a higher-​end consignment situation. Prices and quality were higher than stores like Buffalo and Crossroads.
As I headed towards the fitting room I was completely distracted by the shoes. So many cute shoes!
I ended up finding two sweaters and a pair of black, Cole Haan flats. Yeah, I dropped more than I had intended to, but it’s mostly justifiable due to the excellent quality and the certainty that these items will be used often.
They have an «on-​approval» 48 hour return policy where they attach a red tag and you have two days to change your mind. They also gave me a ‘first-​time customer’ gift box with a keychain whistle, earrings, and a coupon for $ 5 off my next purchase. So nice! My Chinook Book coupon was also returned with the message that I could use it at their other location, which I probably will.
The staff was very friendly. One of the sweaters I picked out had a couple snags, which they were able to fix perfectly with a Snagit tool. I was also offered a fitting-​room while I was trying on shoes and awkwardly holding a bunch of sweaters. This was really helpful.
The prices were a little high and there was only a small sale section located on one rack in the back. However, when combined with the quality, selection, and excellent service, it all kinda evens out.
For consignment: Check out the info on the website. Has to be in-​season and of utmost quality. They pay 40% for up to $ 49.99 and 50% for items over $ 50.

This is a small shop and a lot of the items are on the higher priced side. I used to live a block from this shop so I’d browse a lot but have never found anything I liked. And if I did find something from a name brand store for example, it was really over priced for a second hand item and I would have rather gone to the original store itself to purchase new clothing for that price.
I’ve sold a few items here before with no hassle (clothing must be in excellent condition), and the staff have been friendly.

I love HWGA this is the best consignment store I have ever been to and I LOVE Kelly at the Macadam location. All of the staff I have met have been wonderful!
I think store prices are reasonable for the clothing being offered and have consigned a few items myself.
I have ventured to a few other consignment stores in the area and have to say HWGA has the best customer service I have encountered

HWGA is absolutely the best consignment store in Portland. They are attentive and remember me every time I go in (ok, I go in a LOT but still…). Many of the peices I buy still have the original retail tags on. I have purchased numerous Coach, Banana Republic, Loft, Calvin Klein etc. peices from this store.
Value added for HWGA is their email list and wish list program. I love getting their emails each week and it’s very easy to put things on hold that you see in the email.
Wish list: I wear size 11 shoes which can be hard to come by. Each time HWGA gets new size 11 shoes in they send me an email with beautifully written descriptions and pictures.
Tricks for shopping here: Go through EVERY RACK and look at EVERY item. Sometimes sizes can get mixed up, and different labels size differently. Try EVERYTHING on that you are thinking about (again, different labels size differently). Also, you have to go to both stores. Plan enough time for that to happen. It never fails that if I don’t see a whole lot at one store I clean up at the other.

My daughter and I both frequent (ed) this business… and although she is able to find something she loves, it’s usually at a fairly high price for a consignment store.
We both have brought in things to consign. However, mine are usually rejected UNLESS I send them in with her… a woman 25 years my senior. Then they are accepted. Mm.
The last time this happened I decided it best to forego shopping here. Now I usually wait in the car while my daughter goes in. She insists it’s the owner’s right to reject the clothing. (ALWAYS brand name clothing in excellent condition.) However, my feeling is that it’s a two-​way street. Both parties are part of the bargaining. Buy from me. I’ll buy from you.
Age discrimination? Maybe.

I was next door getting a pedicure and saw this little shop and figured, «why not pop in and take a look!».
I personally felt the prices were a bit high for a lot of items. However, I did find one item I liked for a pretty good deal.
You will see a lot of Jcrew, Banana Republic, Loft, etc type brands. I was hoping to find more high end items, but there are a lot of great basics here.
I will stop by again.

I’ve had exactly the same experience as Stephanie S. below. I’m a size 12 and I brought in clean, pressed clothes from good brands. The only thing they took was a size small (an item that was mistakenly shipped to me and I couldn’t return). Brought in a peasant top from Soft Joie — retails for over $ 100 — nope. Crisp pants from Banana? Nope. I can never find size 12 pants here, but they didn’t want mine. I also sense a lot of confusion about what «large» is. Went to the shirt rack and the «large» section was full of 1x and 2x items. The (of course tiny) retail girl also pointed out a bunch of plus-​sized Eileen Fisher when I said they didn’t have much in my size, so… I guess in HWGA land, if you are over a size 8, you are plus sized?
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve found a few good items at HWGA. Their taste tends towards middle of he road/​suburban, but I have walked away with a good work dress here, or a pair shorts there. The staff is friendly and as helpful as they can be. Don’t expect major deals or discoveries, and they have a soft spot for multi-​color prints that just doesn’t fit in with my more minimalist tastes. That said, as a shopper, I have found 3 or 4 things over the last year worth buying.
Just know that if you have a size 12 butt, expect the pickings to be thin — and not growing anytime soon.

Absolutely love this store. Great finds and awesome staff. Many of my favorite pieces came from here. Both locations are full of treasures and the staff is upbeat, helpful and considerate.
I’ve consigned a few items – great way to refresh your closet!

I have shopped an consigned here many times. I’ve always gotten fair prices both on thing I’ve consigned and things I bought. This location is a little funkier than the John’s Landing location. Amanda (the manager) is always friendly and funny. It’s worth a stop in if you’re in the area.
It’s clean, bright and well organized. Their email list gives nice coupons once and awhile.
I used to be an employee at HWGA but I continue to shop and consign with HWGA as a plain old «civilian.»

I’ve been to this place twice while in Portland and I’m impressed. There’s some pieces here that could be found at a thrift store but the buyer has a good eye because most of it is definitely higher end, interesting, and well made. I bought a super cute jacket here for a good price point. The staff was very attentive and helpful. I will definitely stop by when I’m in the neighborhood again.

I do love consignment stores, but I have found this one (both locations) to be rather disappointing.
The staff is very friendly, but the selection is mediocre. I have had weird experiences with trying to resale my clothing. First off, I run between sizes 12−14−16. I have a really difficult time finding things in there that look good on me, let alone fit. Therefore, I have tried to passively solve this problem by taking in my clothing…(my mind thinks: «Maybe they don’t get enough of those sizes… I’m sure my Nordstrom and Portland-​boutique clothing would be snatched up in a heartbeat.») Unfortunately my items — Halogen, Three Dot, Veronica M, Caslon, Olivia Moon — all seem to be very quickly turned away («Bring them back next Spring,» or «Sorry, we just don’t need that item right now.»)
Wait…stop the presses!!! This past Spring I took in some items… one being a cardigan… they took it… it sold… I got a whopping $ 3 back! So this is where the circle doesn’t quite come back around for me… when I shop there, I am finding items that are quite expensive and not really much of a bargain for being second-​hand. This IS second-​hand, right?! So, are you telling me that my sweater sold for $ 8? Because last I checked, the closest thing to that price was a pair of earrings. #confused!
My favorite moment of embarrassment was when I purchased a pair of Ann Taylor LOFT shoes there. I was pretty stoked to actually get to take something home for once… after all, my feet haven’t changed as much as my weight. :) When I got home, I showed them to a girlfriend… she had the SAME PAIR! …which she got from the LOFT three months prior… for $ 15 (yes, thats right, folks — one-​five) LESS than I got mine… but mine were used? Therefore, I felt like quite a sucker.
I am bringing in pretty quality items, which I have seen being sold there… stain-​free, gently worn, well taken care of, brand name clothing and they won’t take them, but what they do take (from other customers… my stuff excluded), they mark it back up to the original price from when it was basically new. .And to top it off you receive $ 3 for that one item sold! Ouch.
My sister and I are both a little «over» trying with this place. I am sticking to Nordstrom… where I can buy quality UN-​USED clothing for equal to or less than HWGA.

I was riding my bike, on N.E. Broadway running errands yesterday & decided to stop @ H.W.G.A. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE~The young ladies working were very friendly, & helpful.
After trying on lots of things, i settled on a pretty black cotton dress which i noticed had a tear in it. When i brought this to the attention of the girl @ the register, she discounted it & pinned it so i could repair it easily at home~so nice,.
I ended up getting an awesome jacket as well.
I love the unique items they carry, a bit of everything .
Yes they are a tad higher in price than your average Goodwill or thrift, but the clothes are in excellent condition & still less expensive than a mall store.

Hmm … I have not had any luck with this shop. I bought a Groupon for it although I had never been in before because I usually love consignment stores. I immediately visited and was flabbergasted that I could not find one thing I wanted. This is very atypical behavior for me. I found the overall style to be very business casual, so I guess if thats what you’re looking for … but there’s nothing very young, trendy or vintage and the prices were fairly high. Twice now I have not had any luck, but I’ll keep trying back until I can spend that Groupon …

Both locations of Here We Go Again were my go-​to wardrobe makeover stops! I love the clothing and the specials they have. I got most of my work outfits over time from these shops. The high-​end clothing is affordable and in great condition.
They are very picky about what they take in for consignment; I was never successful in getting them interested in the clothes I brought in.
I have to agree with one reviewer that most of the time the clerks are not friendly, but that didn’t bother me so much. Might bother other folks though.
I like the facebook updates and still receive them although I don’t live in Portland any longer.
However, for the most part I really enjoyed shopping at the shops and would recommend them to the discerning thrifty boutique shopper.

Just stepped in to show my boyfriend the cute boots that I want. Had to leave quickly, I was overwhelmed and wanted to spend my rent money on all their goodies!

This store has two locations, and both offer discerning and fashionable ladies great clothes at reasonable, resale prices. You’ll find high-​end brands and really great, unique finds. The selection is always changing and each store has its own atmosphere, so you should be able to find something every time you go in.

I’m a total fan. The ladies here are the best. They are so sweet, friendly, genuine, and they have good taste in music. What more could you ask for?
Great selection of clothes, shoes, accessories, and handbags, they’ve got it.
Cheaper than new, they’ve got it.
E-​mail updates to let you know about new arrivals and discount coupons, they’ve got it.
After watching the documentary, «No Impact Man,» I was inspired to do more second hand shopping, instead of buying new. I got cute Capri pants, a fun knit top, a work out bra top, and a long sleeve workout shirt all for $ 87.00. It’s not a steal, but much cheaper than new. I will be back.

It was a little hard to find at first, but I had a wonderful time while I was there and was treated with such care and courtesy I felt like I was the only customer. At the time I was shopping for a bridal gown and had called ahead asking about their consignment dresses (since I was on a budget and I LOVE a bargain). They not only had a few used dresses, but also a few inexpensive (around $ 200), simple (which meant easy to alter), and lovely new ones to order! Although my time frame was a little tight, she worked with me to get my dress ordered and received quickly.
I also tried on some very tempting tiaras, veils and combs that were beautiful and fairly reasonable in price. But I had it in mind that I would make my veil, so I had to pass on those. Soon my appointment was over and I continued to look around the store. I noted how courteous she was with the next woman who came in also shopping for a dress. The store owner checked back in with me. A week or so later when I picked up my dress, she had even included a pre-​addressed envelope and expressed her hope that I would return a picture to her of me in the dress. She was so sweet and I’d definitely return there for fashion or similar services in the future.
