I love the food here. It is delicious and made fresh so you got to wait for it. However, there has been several times where I order first and everyone else(once it was 3 different cust) got their meals before me. I will say the owner, the lady, she always seems to be in a bad mood. The gentleman is much nicer. And on several occasions she’s failed to offer me water or drink, and offered the party accompanying me for some. Basic exchange of being in the food industry lady. Try the chicken teriyaki with Yakisoba noodles w/beef. $ 3 mo for beef. I am not a fan of the rancid cabbage mix thingy.

I was in Tigard today and I searched on Unilocal(of course!) to find a good teriyaki place to eat. Unilocal rates House of Teriyaki as Number One in that area, so that’s where I headed for. Whoops, I drove right by it the first time and had to turn around and come back. Their sign on the big pole by the street doesn’t have their whole business name on it. It just says«TERIYAKI» and is underneath a much larger sign that says«UNIONGOSPELMISSIONTHRIFTSTORE», so at first glance I thought the sign was for a thrift store which also had teriyaki.(OK, so I was confused!) When I finally got to the right place, I got a friendly welcome from two ladies working at the counter. I ordered their basic item, teriyaki chicken. When my food came, I noticed right away that the chicken was kind of a grayish color rather than the cream/light tan color that cooked chicken usually is. Also, it seemed a bit bland.. .I needed to put teriyaki sauce on every bite to get some flavor. I have been to some other places where the chicken tastes pretty good even without being covered in sauce. Maybe those other places marinate the meat prior to grilling it.. .I don’t know. The vegetable that came with it consisted of shredded cabbage salad with poppyseed dressing. It was fresh and crisp, and I sure liked it better than the usual limp cooked cabbage that is so common at other places. It’s ironic that I liked the cabbage salad side dish better than the chicken itself here, but that’s how it is.

Just tried this place for the first time tonight and it was fantastic! I read all the great reviews and decided to give it a try and I was Not disappointed. I’ve tried spicy chicken at numerous other teriyaki places and have always been disappointed but this place has the best spicy chicken ever! Can’t wait to try the other dishes they offer. I will definitely be a regular at this location.

Food has stayed consistent for the few months I have been going, the owners are nice and the food is reasonably priced. Went here two nights in a row the first week, and have been back at least once a week since then.

I looked up the closest place to my location for a teriyaki craving and this was it. I drove to it and wasn’t sure if I wanted to walk in. Looked like a hole in the wall kinda place. Trusted other Unilocal reviews and walked in. Ordered the chicken teriyaki. It was so delicious and I will be returning in the near future. Absolutely fulfilled my craving for yummy teriyaki. Also they were quick and super nice. I was holding my toddler and he offered to help me to my car.

Best teriyaki in the south Portland area. I’ve tried a good amount of the inexpensive plate lunch places and House stands out. Very friendly service.

Yeah!!! House of Teryaki is the best. I am new to the area and my friend brought me take-out one night. The rest is history. I have only had the chicken teriyaki and the spicy chicken teriyaki. Both are great in their own way. I love the cabbage slaw they serve too. I don’t even know what the dressing is, but it works. Make sure to add that Sriracha too. boom.

Chicken teriaki yakisoba is my favorite. They always use good pieces of chicken, and my plate is always clean by the time I leave right down to the last noodle.

Just relocated to Portland from San Diego… staying with relatives, so have been getting dinner to go from various resteraunts. All I can say is WOW! My cousin and her husband were shocked to have not discovered this gem after living in Tigard for years. The food was delicious… we each ordered a different item and ended up sharing all with each other because each one of us kept saying«this is sooooo good!». Stationed in Japan… this is the real deal:)

I chose this place based off of the other reviews here on Unilocal.I’m new to the area and I love some good teriyaki so that seem like the place to go. If you drive too fast you’ll definitely pass it. It looks a little rundown and it kind it is but the food is great! The price you pay and the portions that you get are definitely worth it. The sauce was great the chicken had a nice charr to it and the flavor was just right. I’ll definitely go back.

Go. Go now to the House of Teriyaki. You will not be disappointed. Order the spicy chicken teriyaki. And while you’re at it, get the chicken yakisoba. Actually, order anything on the menu. Yum, yum, yum.

House of T is the best in Portland metro area. I’ve seriously tried damn near every place in the entire metro area and none of them compare to house of T. I’ve only ordered the normal teriyaki and the spicy teriyaki, both of them are wonderful. I cannot vouch for anything else, and don’t understand why you would deviate from the house specialty. To manage expectations, don’t come expecting to be wowed with white glove service or sensitivities to gluten and other random crap. This is a mom and pop place that specializes in teriyaki — and they do a phenomenal job of it. Keep up the good work!

We just moved to the area and were looking for some good Teriyaki nearby and this place was great. We got the beef Teriyaki and it was a great serving size and the sauce was amazing! The service was friendly, and it was everything you would expect for a go-to Teriyaki place that’s a good kept secret. My only complaint is I have been to similar places that are a couple of bucks cheaper. But at the same time, the food here was better.

Very pleased with my food. I ordered the Tofu and Rice place(not listed on the menu), it was awesome. The tofu was fried, crispy and with just the right amount of teriyaki sauce. The owner was very friendly. It definitely gets busy around 6pm.

Food is good here. Japanese mom-and-pop rice and grilled meat shop. Solid, satisfying and consistent taste and quality food. My main beef with this joint is owners’ unfriendliness, at least with me, as I have seen them be nicer to others, regulars, I assume. Gotta learn to be nicer to your customers!

so easy to miss this place. not a looker from the outside(or inside) the sign outside says«thrift store teriyaki». lunch special was $ 7.25, the portion size was good and represents good value. however, for a lunch special i think price should be less and portion should be less as well. the chicken was cooked well, the teriyaki sauce was delicious and not too sweet, the salad was nice and tangy. overall, not disappointed. even though the food is good it’s not a place you’d likely want to take a date to.
