Ian Ghahate

Ian is truly amazing! He was the first person who cut and colored my hair exactly the way I wanted it, even better. He’s truly talented. It’s also fun to sit and chat with his sunshiney personality. I totally recommend him! He’s got my loyalty for good. Thank you, Ian! Xo

Love Ian and my hair. He does a great job of explaining what he’s doing and why. I’ve gone to popular salons in Portland before where asking for chocolate brown highlights for my black hair seems to become brassy/​gold. He does a great job of doing highlights that grow out well too– so I get to hold off on coloring for as long as possible. Cuts are always great and his styling is superb.

I came in with quite the challenge. I had gotten a bad haircut elsewhere and just couldn’t stand it. I scheduled an appointment with Ian to see if he could help salvage my hair.
He more than succeeded. He turned a really shaggy, uneven cut into something that looks gorgeous! He listened to everything I wanted, evaluated the damage, and then told me what would be reasonable based on the previous cut and what I had originally wanted. We agreed upon what to do and it was everything I expected and more. I love my new cut and I will always be going to Ian now.

I just moved to Portland and was looking for a stylist. I’m a little particular about who cuts my hair. Once I found my last stylist I kept her for 18 years. Alas, I had to move to the NW and she is not longer available to me. So my search began. Edgy cuts are not me, but I do want to be up to date on my style. Ian took the time to evaluate my hair and really listen to what I wanted even though I couldn’t articulate it very well. He told me what he was going to do so I wouldn’t be surprised. He did a fabulous job and I love my new cut and style! I was also looking for some new hair care products and he educated me on the Oribe line, but was not a pushy salesman. Ian is super charismatic and very polite. A real joy! He’s a newer stylist, but this man is going places!

My sister kept on showing up with fabulous hair and beautiful highlights and I kept hearing «Ian did this.» I just had to see him.
So he turned my tired old looking mess of hair into a sassy manageable style that I continually get compliments on. He knows his sh*t. He knows how to really give great cuts appropriate for your facial structure and listens to what YOU want. He’ll make great suggestions and knows what looks good and what doesn’t — he’s pretty tactful and honest about it. I’m very, very picky when it comes to cut and color and it’s rare to find someone like Ian. He’s professional, personable and has great customer service. The salon he works out of is great, too. Good ambiance, friendly professional people. Tips when you see Ian: 1) He accepts credit cards which is a huge plus. I’ve seen other stylists in other places where they only accept cash and don’t even tell you until the end and then you’re scrambling to find an ATM. 2) Also, If you have a longer appt. with him, park across the street in the parking structure. It’s super convenient and easy. 3) Want fabulous brows, ask Ian. He does them so well and I won’t go to anyone else. Other places I’ve been to burn the crap out of your skin and don’t know how to really shape your brows. He does them well and in a short amount of time.
If you see Ian, get ready to look fabulous. You will not be disappointed. :)

Ian is a fabulous stylist. He listened carefully to my ideas regarding a new hairstyle, and the results far exceeded my hopes! I’m in my late 50’s, and I feel stylish and also energized by my new look. He is also a genius with haircolor! Ian is young and hip. he most certainly has a great future ahead!

A couple years ago I moved to Portland from LA. Finding a decent stylist turned out to be much harder then finding a good boyfriend! I stopped taking referrals from friends who said they had a «great» stylist. I decided to take my search to Unilocal.Where I found some decent reviews for Natural Beauty so I chanced it and got paired with Ian. All I have to say is thank god. I found not just a decent stylist, I found a great stylist. He has since moved to Pigment Salon and I have followed him. If you are in search of an amazing stylist, check him out. Your hair will thank you for it!

Ian does a fabulous job with precise, edgy haircuts like mine. I came to see him a year ago on a friend’s recommendation. I brought a picture of Uma Thurman from Pulp Fiction and a dream of a super chic bob with me. At the time, I had really long hair. Ian took the time to make sure everything looked perfect and I’ve gone to him ever since. He cares deeply about his customers. When I go in for a bang trim, he takes the time to make sure my hair looks nice and the rest of my cut is in order, even though the service is complimentary (I always tip though!).

Ian has given me the greatest hair of my life. I thank God for him every time I look in the mirror.

Ian has consistently done a fabulous job of cutting my hair for the past year or so. My hair is thick, straight and surprisingly time consuming, but he’s figured out a method and has me in and out of the salon in record time. We first met out of random streetcar happenstance, and he was so bubbly and friendly that I mentioned I was a recent Portland transplant and in need of an official stylist. He’s great about referencing whichever photos you bring in, and will caution you about pursuing a certain cut if he’s not sure you will like the end result based on your hair type and face shape.
I first came to him while he was at The National Beauty wanting to go extremely short, but he’s done a great job of helping me transition to a short cut that I love rather than lopping everything off and leaving me in a state of scissor shock. I’ve always received many compliments on my increasingly short hair cuts, so I especially recommend him if you’re trying to work up the courage to go short! While longer hair cuts are much more forgiving, going with a short cut you need to make sure you trust your stylist, and Ian is a great long-​term pick.
His prices run a little low for his current salon, Pigment Salon in the base of the Bank of America Building; he’s a younger stylist, so get to him before his rates grow with his popularity! Bang trimmings are also free with Ian; those can set you back $ 10 a visit if you go elsewhere. I haven’t done coloring with him yet, but he’s fully able to provide coloring services as well. Best of all, his schedule is extremely flexible. This has been great for me since I work long days and am most available for evening appointments. He can also schedule time on weekends if that’s the best time that works for you.
If you’re new to Portland and looking for someone young, hip and stylish to make you look fabulous, Ian is an excellent choice and does a fantastic job every time!
