Lechon kawali, diniguan, pancit bihon and lumpia. They were all delish! Definitely going back again. They even have slot machines there and a tiny Filipino market.

Cheap solid Filipino food with a nice staff. I’d probably say stick with take out. The dinuguan was particularly bomb.

Great food and what an experience! You may walk into Kuya’s and think it’s not open, but that’s not the case — it’s just the repair man might be installing the new security system, the video poker machines may be arriving, and the new karaōke machine may be getting tested at the same time. Benny, the owner, is incredibly nice. He likes to talk to the customers, so if you’re not looking to be social, this may not be a great option for you. The food is authentic and delicious — I’d take pancit over almost any American comfort food any day!

In the back of the Filipino Community Center is one of the best Asian restaurants I’ve encountered. The staff aren’t doing this to make money, they are doing this to share their culture & way of life with the fine folks of Portland, Oregon. The food, in other words, is a labor of love. And it shows. My wife & I each ordered an entrée — she had crispy pork and I had chicken adobe. Each dish was perfect. The people there are friendly and full of pride in their Community Center and in their culture. My wife & I both hope we get a chance to stop by again for an outstanding meal there next time we are in Portland.

This place was a diamond in the ruff. The restaurant itself is not a traditional come in and sit down. You walk into a house and have to walk down the hallway to find the kitchen and sit down area. Its nothing fancy, but the staff there makes up for it. They are the sweetest and nicest people you will meet. The food there was good. I got the house special palabok. Defintily not something my palate is use to, but it tasted fresh and homemade. The lumpia was freaking amazing and wish I room for another order. I finished it off with HALO-Halo. Different but good. If you are looking for excellent filipanio food and atmosphere then this place is perfect. Beware this place is real Filipino food and have some dishes that might be a bit strong for the American palate.

Tip: Everything is made fresh so call ahead. Growing up in the Bay Area access to Filipino food was a given. Of course there are different styles of cooking. So you had to find the one that fit your tastes the best. Portland has maybe less than 4 Filipino joints. All just a little too far. Heard about Kuya’s Cuisine from a friend. Called didn’t have my initial order of Sisig and Pork Apritada. Happily sub’do out for Bicol Express and Lechon. There is Filipino food that is restaurant style and there is home-cooking. This definitely is home-cooking. Presented well. First experience is indeed 5stars. You can Karaōke while you wait as well.

I’ve been looking for good Filipino food in SE Portland for a while with little luck and then I stumbled upon Kuya’s Cuisine. They were set up outside for lunch, however I wanted a to go order. We were quickly greeted by Fred, who was very helpful. He explained the menu and we ordered some Sinigang and Pancit. The food arrived quickly and the prices were very reasonable. When we got home everything was still hot and it was delicious. Probably the most authentic Filipino food I’ve had here in Portland. If you like Filipino food or just want to try something different, you have to try this place. The only negative is that they’re only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, still this is a five star place in my mind.

The restaurant is located in the Fil-Am Community Center. It’s right of 82nd and Stark street. They only accept cash right now. They have their own parking space. We ordered lechon kawali(deep fried pork) with special sauce, kare-kare(beef and ox tail stew) with bagoong(salty shrimp paste), vegetarian pancit and chopseuy(mixed veggies). For dessert, we had turon(banana and jack fruit wrapped in spring roll wrapper), ube(purple yam), and halo-halo. The food was excellent. We’ll definitely go back there again. The service staff were really nice and friendmy, and they are volunteers. The proceeds of the sale goes to the Fil-Am Association.
