Laurelwood Dental

If you’re like me and just about everyone else who posted here, going to the dentist rates among your least favorite activities. Laurelwood Dental changed that. It would be too much to say that I look forward to going to the dentist now, but with Laurelwood I can honestly say I don’t mind. The staff is great (props to Alice and Tiffany) and Dr. Hall is excellent. I’ve been going here for years and referred several of my coworkers, all of whom also say great things about Laurelwood. If you are looking for a dentist, start here. It will probably be the end of your search.

Let’s face it, going to the dentist sucks. Period. There’s no way around that fact. What Laurelwood Dentist does is make the dentist experience suck less and that’s a win in my book.
As a new customer, I expected to have to wait a few weeks to be seen. Nope. I was offered an appointment the very next day. My appointment was scheduled for the middle of the night, 7:30am, and I walked into a smiling, friendly, cheerful, and awake group of professionals.
Front desk was friendly, not indifferent ass holes like I’ve experienced at other healthcare providers. The x-​ray tech was friendly and had a great personality. She checked in on me multiple times as I awaited my cleaning and visit from the dentist. The lady who performed my cleaning was not heavy-​handed, was pleasant, and friendly. The dentist had great bedside manner and spent time with me explaining everything and making sure I had all my questions answered.
I’m totally stoked to have landed in Portland and have immediately found a keeper.

I began going to Laurelwood Dental many years ago after rave reviews about them by a friend. The entire staff is warm and friendly. I’ve never had to wait for an appointment. The atmosphere in the office is both professional and comfortable. Though I was always a loyal patient of Dr. Rice, now that he has retired I’ve discovered the other dentists to be just as caring and trust-​inducing as he always was. Previously with former dentists, I dreaded getting my teeth cleaned because it was such an ordeal. At Laurelwood Dental, it seems almost like a mini-​vacation — getting to lie back comfortably while Lisa painlessly does my teeth so much good. I don’t think dentistry gets any better than this. Visit them, and you won’t be sorry.

My family have been patients with Laurelwood Dental since 1990. We have always found the staff to be very professional and friendly. They are thorough in their dental treatment using the latest in technology which makes for painless and efficient dental care.
They have been highly responsive in emergencies available all hours and days.
The dental professionals take the time to fully explain they find in the dental check up and offer options for care and treatment. They call to follow up to ensure that all is well.

I’ve been a patient here for several years. Dr. Hall and Dr. Rice are professional, efficient, and well-​trained. The hygiene staff is great, although the attention to detail can vary from hygienist to hygienist.
I would happily recommend this office to adults and kids alike in need of excellent oral care.

Possibly the best dental office I have visited! They went above and beyond to meet my needs and exceed my expectations! The office staff was very friendly and the hygienist took her time with my cleaning and was very thorough. The highlight of the visit was Dr. Edwards. He was extremely professional and talked me through all of my dental needs and I could tell he really cared about my health and well being as his dental patient. I am happy to know I am receiving such thoughtful and excellent care for my dental needs! I highly recommend Dr. Edwards and Laurelwood Dentistry!

I highly recommend Laurelwood Dental. I’ve been going here for 8 years and they’ve always been great. Last time I was there the receptionist gave me a Starbucks gift card because they were delayed 10 minutes. When was that last time your doctor did that?!! The dentists are super nice and respectful. They offer you music and sunglasses. You should go there!

I have been going to Laurelwood Dental for a few years now and have always been pleased with the service I have received. The front desk staff is pleasant and helpful when I arrive and I never have to wait long before the hygienist comes to take me back for my cleaning. Like a lot of people, I struggle with flossing, but the hygienists never «scold» me for not keeping up on it and instead help me set realistic goals to improve my oral health (e.g. flossing every other day to get into a routine). Thankfully, I haven’t had to see Dr. Hall other than to get a clean bill of oral health (knock on wood!), but if I have an issue in the future, there isn’t anyone I would trust more to take care of it. In fact, even though I now live on the West Side of Portland, I still commute over to their office in inner NE for my biannual dental appointments!

I can’t believe I’m writing a review of a dentist, but this place is truly exceptional. I actually look forward to coming in! And recently I asked if they would be willing to make a donation towards my stockings for the homeless program, and they gave in spades! Not to mention, I think they do really fine work. I am super pleased with my implant. Dr. Edwards is amazing– he really goes the extra mile. He researched my particular situation to find the best option. Im so grateful i found this place!

We’ve been going to Laurelwood Dental for 2+ years at the recommendation of several of my husband’s coworkers. When our group insurance provider changed to an incompatible company (which affected everyone from the company), they were extremely accommodating and worked to get us all covered again. I lost the genetic lottery in terms of tooth enamel, so I am in here quite often and have been treated by all three doctors. Each one is fantastic — professional, friendly and warm, and skilled at their jobs. The hygienists, techs and desk workers are all extremely pleasant as well.

I had recently moved to Portland and had yet to find a dentist when I developed a toothache. I am very particular about dentists so I was nervous about cold calling a dentist to assess my problem. I received excellent service in finding an appointment the next day to see Dr. Hall. I can’t tell you how relieved I was by the care I received from the front desk staff to the dental hygienist and finally from Dr. Hall. They were kind and compassionate, and helped me get immediate attention and resolution for my issue. I have just found my new favorite dentist office!

My wife and I have been patients for the past 15 years and now our teen son is going there as well. I’ve had some really painful experiences with dentists in the past. Dr Rice is a complete contrast. Does fantastic work, pain free, gives me great guidance and advice. Tiffany is the only hygienist I’ll see — a real pro, very caring, knows and remembers our family. But the whole staff are great, and I’ve had excellent work from Dr. Hall, too. I am very grateful to be on their calendar!

Everyone here is so kind and helpful, it kind of felt like visiting family. Like most people I do not enjoy the entire experience of the dentist, but everything went smoothly. Dr Edwards was very sensitive to my needs and went out of his way to explain everything. I feel like the crown I recieved was perfectly color matched and fit, which is a relief after having my last dentist do some terrible work. I am a fan of Laurelwood and will definitely be coming back.

I am one of those people who putting going to the dentist as one of their top fears. It scared the heck out of me every time. I always managed to find unfriendly/​cold dental offices. I am happy to report that has changed since I discovered Laurelwood.
Everyone is super nice and compassionate and caring. No one has ever made me feel bad for not keeping up on my dental care in my youth like I should have. (I know I’m not alone in this)
I no longer fear the dentist and am happy to report, with the support of the hygienists and dentists at Laurelwood, I now take care of my teeth like I should have in my youth.

I didn’t go to the dentist for about 15 years due to overwhelming phobia. When the time came that I had to go, I more or less chose Laurelwood at random. First off, they are nice and were not at all judgmental. I felt totally secure and like maybe I could go to the dentist regularly.
They have great magazines, super friendly staff, and do everything they can to make me feel okay and not judged. When I had to wait 5 – 10 minutes once for my appointment (no big deal to me) they made it up with a Starbucks card! I love these guys as much as one can a dentist.

I was highly impressed with my first visit to Laurelwood Dental, especially because my initial appointment I had to cancel 2 hours beforehand due to a sick infant. They were able to change my appointment with little hassle, and no fee.
I felt like they really tried to make my experience valuable and friendly and promoted their services as a team approach.
My only issue, that I didn’t notice before I went, was that they don’t appear to be «in network» for my or anyone’s insurance. That could end up being a costly difference.

I have been in the market for a new dentist as I have been to a few in Portland in the past couple of years that I wasn’t impressed with BUT I think I’ve finally found one to stay at. Laurelwood Dental uses all of the latest technology while still being about the health of my teeth… unlike the dentists out there who are either antiquated or have technology to cover up other short comings.
The staff is all very friendly at Laurelwood and very knowledgeable. They seem honest and genuine about making sure my mouth is happy instead of trying to charge me money. I was also impressed with their records and tracking of each tooth, making me feel like they really will watch everything going on to keep my teeth in check. I’m looking forward to another visit in 6 months!

I had an old cap come off. It was very old & put on by my former dentist back in Texas.
First they were able to get me in quickly.
There were other time consuming issues yet they did the necessary work without scheduling another appointment.
The procedure was relatively painless and I was thoroughly satisfied.
I’m glad I chose Dr. Rice as my dentist when I moved to Portland!

I don’t even know where to begin in describing how grateful I am to have discovered this dentists office a few years ago. These people are amazing! Really, I can truly say that they are in it for the right reasons. It is not about bleeding you dry (I don’t have insurance so trust me about the money part) and making you endure unnecessary dental work. I have had 3 crowns and multiple fillings done there and have yet to run into any problems. I really appreciate how much they actually care about me (they have seen me a lot this summer) and how patient they are with me. I absolutely love this place and cannot recommend it more! Dr. Edwards is the best ever and the dentist hygienists are lovely people too. I also need to give props to the ladies at the front desk. Thank you so much for putting up with my never ending phone calls and emails!

Disclaimer here — going to the dentist is possibly my least favorite activity.
That being said — the folks at Laurelwood Dental are really and truly wonderful. They are professional, nice, friendly, kind and best of all gentle. At least the ones I’ve met and that’s is enough for me. The hygienists are pretty neat people and if you are lucky you will spend most of your time with them :)
If you aren’t so lucky you will get to spend some quality time with the dentist, but he’s a pretty super guy — shots go easy, fillings are quick and it’s all done before you know it — so as good as it gets!
I can’t recommend them enough!
