Specialties
I’m a USA Archery-certified Level 3 coach who teaches private and small group lessons in the Portland area, from beginning to advanced. I charge $ 30 an hour for one person, $ 40 for two or three, and I provide the equipment. I specialize in modern traditional or barebow archery using recurve bows or longbows. Lessons are indoors in the winter, outdoors in the summer.
History
Established in 2014.
I started teaching archery three years ago to help promote the sport and to help me learn more about archery technique. After gaining experience by watching my own coach teach others and by teaching many free lessons myself, including to Girl Scout groups and a 4-H group, I started a business last year and took a class in Seattle to get my Level 3 coaching credentials. Most of my lessons in the rainy season are taught at the Broken Arrow range in Milwaukie, Oregon.
Meet the Business Owner
Laurie R.
Business Owner
I’ve been focusing on archery intensively for the past three years after a career in newspaper journalism. I shoot in state and national tournaments in the traditional or barebow division, and in August 2014, I was lucky enough to be on the U.S. team to compete in the world field championships in Zagreb, Croatia. Teaching archery lessons helps me cover the cost of traveling to tournaments but it is also tremendously gratifying to watch students light up when they get their first bullseye and as they settle into the calm focus of the sport. I also do my best to promote barebow archery, which is a fringe sport but a fantastic one, and especially to encourage girls and women to give it a try.
