Little T American Baker

The name is deceptive because it was more of a coffee shop than a bakery. Street parking was easy to find but it was busy inside on a Sunday morning and all the tables were full. Even though they have a pretty extensive list of baked goods on the site, there wasn’t quite as many options when you go. Maybe they only make a selected few each day? Coffee was alright and the pastry I got wasn’t memorable enough to recall. I was kind of jealous of this guy sitting next to me, he had a baguette with some jam and that looked good. If I do return, I’ll have to try their breads. I brought a book, however, the environment was too distracting to read. With so many coffee shop in town, it needs some more special to stand out.

Everything here is so good, and I think we’ve had just about everything on the menu. They do holiday baked goods. All their breads have amazing, fresh texture and taste. If you’re looking for a simple brunch, pastry, great coffee, or even just some bread to take home for dinner, it’s worth it stopping in.

I really like this place, they have great focaccia, brownies, and tuna sandwiches. What I really don’t like is that at 3pm they stop serving most of their menu items and run out of baked goods.
I also wish they would run breakfast for longer.

Top 3 items:
— Ham & Cheese Sandwich: It normally comes with a pretzel bun, but ask for the baguette instead. You won’t be disappointed!
— Hot Vanilla Latte: Creamy goodness that’s not too strong in flavor.
— Kouign Amann: Way better than their regular croissant. The way they describe it being sugary caramel made it sound like it would be too sweet, but it was actually a perfect mix between sweet and buttery goodness.
My favorite place in Portland (with the exception of the beautiful fall leaves in Washington Park: P). Wish they’d open a place like this in Orange County (CA).
Of course, this is from a visitor’s perspective… not a native from Portland, so opinions may differ.

Get the Croque Madame for breakfast if you know what’s good for you! The bread they put all of the tasty, warm, salty goodness on is so soft and I’m a sucker for fresh baked «toast».
I haven’t had a chance to have just the croissant but their chocolate croissant is super flaky & just sweet enough. The coffee they make is a wonderful compliment to their baked goods. I took a banana pineapple mini-​cake home with me the last time we went here. Oh lawd, it was one of the best things I’ve ever had — I want to know how to make it. If only.

Terrible service. I live nearby and have been visiting this place for months. They weren’t ever nice (lost orders, snarky workers) but they were close enough that I didn’t care enough to write a review. Until today. I was on a walk with my 14 week old small puppy and she’s too young to leave outside so I picked her up and walked inside to get a drink. She fell asleep on my shoulder as I waited behind 2 people. Once I got to the counter and ordered a coffee to-​go the male worker said I couldn’t have my pup in there which is weird because I had already been waiting in line for 10 minutes (ahem, slow service) and several workers standing around had made eye contact with me before that. I get that not everyone likes dogs and you have policies in place but at that point she was asleep, I was holding her and had wasted 10 minutes. The guy was a jerk about it too but I guess if you’re not the owner of Stumptown you don’t deserve a smile there. If it was an isolated incident I would shrug it off but it’s not and this is Portland after all, there are lots of wonderful coffee shops with decent employees just a couple more blocks away.

I came here twice in the span of 4 days to eat the Kouign Amann. It was delicious. Amazing texture, sugared, mMmmmm.
The space is full of light and friendly, casual. I’m not typically a coffee-​shop worker, but if there were something like Little T near my home in California, I’d be there every weekend morning.
We also tried a berry danish, cream cheese pastry and molasses cookie, also delicious enough to pick up the crumbs for.
They take card, but not American Express.

I frequent Little T quite often since our shop is just around the corner. My go to is the Continental for $ 3.50… A skinny baguette and salted butter and berry jam. It’s absolutely delicious! I’ve tried several of their pastries and a couple of their sandwiches and they’ve never disappointed. Service has always been prompt and polite and I especially like the gal who writes quirky pun-​y notes by the register.

So disappointing. Great quality, exorbitant prices, really bad customer service. And quite a challenge to get to in a car because of area parking limits. Overall not worth the cost/​benefit trade-​off. Sold us white bread as whole wheat and were rude about it when we showed them the inside of the loaf.

My husband loves all the breads but I’m looking for layer cakes today. I had a plain cc cookie. It was okay… soft and a little crispy. $ 2 a bit much

I am totally underwhelmed by their service relative to their products (cost and otherwise). After spend $ 17 on a few (4 pieces) pastries, I got home to discover that they had been basically crammed into their box, ruining the majority of them. The cake slice was smashed against the butterrole and the two croissants were pinned underneath. It was like a four year old set about trying to take a piece from each before his parent’s could catch him. Get your act together, Little T.
I’ve experienced MUCH better from Dunkin Donuts.

Nice spacious café. Not many ma & pa shops have such a large space for customers to sit and enjoy. Good drinks and pastries. Modern simple clever design. 2 large restrooms. They also serve breakfast and sandwiches.

Simply the best croissants in Portland!!! Hands down!!! I can’t wait to go back there tomorrow and buy myself a chocolate pralines croissant and a butter croissant.

Out of all the bakeries I tried in PDX (Ken’s, Pearl Bakery, Nuvrei, Roman Candle), Little T was probably my favorite. Their pastries were phenomenal. I tried their Koign Amman (good, but not the best — Roman Candle has this one down), their pear and honey danish as well as their blueberry danish (holy crap, blueberry danish was amazing), their chocolate prailine croissant (very solid), their bear claw (also solid), and their pistacio chocolate chip butterhorn (orgasmic). Everything I had there was good.
Standouts for me were the blueberry danish and the pistacio chocolate chip butterhorn. The danish was very flaky with a great crunch to it. One of my most frequent issues with pastries is that they are inappropriately spongy or soft when they should have a nice flaky crunch. This danish (as well as the rest of Little T’s flaky dough pastries) left me with flaky crumbs all over the plate and my shirt, which is exactly the way I like it. The butterhorn was a great cake-​y contrast to the danish. It was the perfect dense, delicious texture. Like a muffin, but so much more. And the pistacio added a nice generally nutty flavor as well as a little variation in the texture that really made it stand out.
The bread was not quite as good as it was at other places, but if you’re looking for flawless pastries in PDX, Little T has the goods.

Every time I go into Little T it seems like something magical happens.
Some examples:
One time they were getting close to closing so they gave me some extra bread.
One time the cookies were sticking together so they gave me an extra cookie.
And each time I eat one of their chocolate chip cookies I am transported.
Those are clearly the best chocolate chip cookies in Portland. Maybe the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever eaten. And I also think they bake the best bread in Portland.
In conclusion: Little T, I love you.

The caprese sandwich is definitely my favorite and in season. Every time I’ve come here to grab a bite while visiting has not disappointed me. I’m clearly a fan and always wish to come back and buy up the whole store. Their oatmeal mix is awesome too. Wish I could pick you guys up and take you to NYC.

This is the best bakery I have been to in awhile. I have tried most of their breads if not all and my favorite is still their baguette! I use it for bruschetta as well as to eat with my cheese and olives. I also highly recommend going to their Division Street location and having breakfast/​brunch there. They make some solid sandwiches, my favorite being the CROQUE MADAME! So yummy

Excellent baked goods, perfectly crispy and buttery croissants. The croque madame needs some work — it’s really an egg with ham, and lacks the literal definition of that sandwich: crispy. (Look it up.) Coffee very solid. Good place for a weekend breakfast out.
We at least did not experience the surly and child-​unfriendly attitude referred to in another review. Perhaps they’ve learned a lesson.

Epic pastry explosion.
I came here because I wanted to go to broder and the wait was something really really ridiculous. Down the street we went to find this cute, quaint little bakery that is sleek and modern but still retains that warm bakery feel.
They do a lot of baked breakfast goodies, like sandwiches, eggy stuff, and lox. They also do some lunch things with sides of salad. They make a WHOLE WHEAT croissant! How awesome is that?
I really liked their banana walnut bread, and it went exceptionally well with the coava fresh brew that I had. Their kougin amann was also pretty delish (although I am pretty sure I just butchered that word).
Recommended if you’re about to toss the table on broder :) and recommended in general for great pastries!
