Master Muffler & Brakes

Thought I was going to get fleeced on anew muffler. I had been putting off the repair out of $$$ fear. Turned out, all I needed was a new tail pipe. It took 15 minutes and $ 90! What a relief. Totally trust worthy shop and super nice. Highly recommend!

After reading so many positive reviews by women who, like me, have been taken advantage of by other auto repair businesses, I decided to give this place a try. The brakes on my Ford F250 have been a little squeaky, and I wanted to see if it was time for new ones. I called the shop yesterday and asked if I could bring in my rig sometime this week, and they said I should bring it by the next morning at 8.
I showed up maybe 20 minutes after 8, and the place was already booming. I took it as a good sign, just like when I see an empty restaurant on a Friday night, I take that as a sign I should never eat there. A mechanic immediately spotted me and had me fill out a form with my name and number. I left the key and told them to take their time. Then, because I live close enough, I hoofed it out of there.
Around 9:45, I got a call from Chris, who I think was the same mechanic who had helped me when I’d dropped off the truck. He told me the good news – my brakes weren’t ready for a change. The front brakes had something like 35% of their pads left, and the back brakes had more like 50%. He said they had simply encountered a lot of brake dust, which they’d cleaned out, and I could come get the truck, free of charge. Wow!
When I showed up 30 minutes later, Chris didn’t just give me my key back, he took the time to explain what brake dust is and how it can create a squeak. He even pulled some brake pads out of a box and showed me the tabs on them, explaining that when I start to hear more of a constant squeal in my brakes, that’s when I need to get them changed. He suggested I come back in a few months for another inspection.
AMAZING. Not only was I treated with respect, but no one tried to rip me off, there were no hidden fees, I got a free inspection, and I learned a little something, too. Excellent customer service. I’m almost excited about the prospect of needing new brakes in a few months or so. Funny!

Master muffler is the place to go. the prices are fair and the work is impeccable. I bought 2 mufflers from my relative took them up to master muffler they put them on in minutes for next to nothing

These guys are great! They have the best prices around, they gave me good recommendations for exactly what I wanted done to my honda, and they had it done within a couple hours of me dropping it off. My car is lowered, so my resonator would drag over speed bumps. They sincerely did a quality job. No dragging, no rattle I’m my muffler anymore. I will only take my car here for any related services.

I dropped my car off overnight, expecting to have to pay full price for new brakes. I called them in the morning to find out my car was already done. They dusted and adjusted, and everything was good as new. No charge. I just wanted to say thanks here in writing. :)

I called after reading the positive reviews to ask how much brakes would be because mine had been squeaky for a while and the brake light was on. They did a thorough inspection while I waited and I was fully prepared to have to purchase one or both sets of brakes. Turns out the brakes just needed a little lube (which they applied for free!) and did not need to be replaced after all. I really appreciated their honesty and will absolutely use them again in the future for all of my car service needs!

I have been back to Master Muffler & Brakes twice since my last review and I keep getting blown away by the service I receive. I brought my new-​to-​me Ford Ranger in to have the parking brake adjusted and literally had to force these guys to take my money for the job.
Sure it was a quick job, but nobody gives quality labor away anymore — and honestly these guys SHOULDN’T.
I brought the truck back to them a few weeks later to have the wheel bearings inspected. I was convinced that they were noisy — but was just being paranoid it turns out. The techs inspected the wheel bearings for play and then, since I had insisted that the front end was loud, both techs test drove my truck and confirmed that it was safe.
I left a previous vehicle with a FORD DEALER for 8 days to diagnose an issue and they barely drove the car at all (odometers don’t lie) and charged me $ 80 to LITERALLY DO NOTHING and I leave my truck with Mater Muffler & Brakes for a few hours (they were EXTREMELY busy when I showed up, with a line nearly out the door) and I got TWO test drives for FREE.
Can’t beat these guys.

My exhaust system was making some noise. I called them at 8am on a Wed morning and they told me to come in. Literally as soon as I parked there was someone out there to help me. They put my car up on the rack to do their diagnosis. They told me and even brought me out to show me what was wrong. 45 minutes later they had me all fixed up and ready to go. Prices were beyond reasonable!
I will be back if I have future exhaust issues.

I just have to give a shout out to Master Muffler & Brakes and Dave Workman! These guys are the NICEST, most knowledgeable and efficient mechanics ever. I have been having trouble with my old red jeep wrangler and ‘check engine’ light keeps coming on and doing pet care (Fairy Dogmother Pets) I am totally reliant on my vehicle. Not only did they fix the original problem but as new issues have cropped up (light keeps coming on) they have advised me how to fix it even when they aren’t doing the work. I only wish they did all mechanical services cause I wouldn’t have to go anywhere else. If you are in need of any services within their realm I would advise you to see them first! Really GOOD GUYS

I took my Jeep Cherokee here to have an aftermarket catback system installed that I purchased online. Not only did these guys finish it in under and hour but they only charged me $ 120 which I think was a more than fair price all things considered. The quality of the welds was excellent and the staff were all friendly! I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for quality exhaust work at a fair price.

Needed a bung welded in for a downstream O2 sensor. For a nominal fee, Their tech offered to fix the horrendous welds the previous owners had inflicted upon the exhaust. When is came back a week later looking for help installing the sensor, they took care of it, gratis.

I used to LOVE this place. Then I went in the other day to simply have my front brakes checked out. After saying the single words «hello» and then extending his arm and saying «keys» he walked away and (surprisingly) immediately put my car up on the lift. Naturally I was a bit confused as there was no attempt at dialog, no questions regarding the car’s history, no nothing. Just walked away. So I sat…
A few minutes later he came back in and in something resembling the english language said my rotors could be turned as they were a bit warped. At that point I asked if he could diagnose my illuminated «check engine» light. He said he could and I left…
A few hours later he called and said my VW was ready for pickup. When asked about the check engine light, «oh, I forgot». So he went back and did the quick test only to call me and say he couldn’t fix it. When I went back to pay he didn’t charge me for the engine light (lucky him) and when asked if he could repeat what the code meant he started mumbling and I understood about 2 of 10 words.
In the end, I got what I needed but felt like a second class citizen during the process. The guy I used to deal with there was SUPER and went above and beyond to make things work.
Probably not going back. There are ways to treat people, especially if you want/​need their business.
Also: Would it kill ‘em to clean up after the ’70’s. Dirty, old, out of date store.

I got rear ended and had a bunch of strange muffler noises. Luckily I looked at Unilocal before taking this to my dealer for a fix. When I took my car into Master Muffler the folks in the garage was very nice, diagnosed the issue in about 10 minutes, and got it fixed in about 20 more. Honestly, I was floored by the speed and (low) cost. I was expecting easily 10x more of both. Also from talking with the mechanics about my car they were very knowledgeable and clearly had a passion for all things auto. Later, when there was another small issue and I took the car back in — they got it fixed at no charge. Now my car is purring along as usual thanks to the great folks at Master Muffler!

I went in around lunch today to get my car checked out because the exhaust was loud. Jimmy and Don were working today. These guys may seem a little gruff around the edges but they are direct and don’t BS you around. I appreciate that quality in people. After a few minutes they spotted the problem and gave me a very reasonable quote and had my car ready in 45 minutes. The place might not seem super flashy but the guys there are good, charge reasonable rates and don’t try to do any unnecessary work. My car is now quiet as a mouse! Thanks guys! I’ll take my car there when I need the brakes done too.

I was in and out with exhaust work done in under 30 minutes! Don was helpful and fast and gave me an excellent deal. Also, my car is now as quiet as a church mouse.

a couple days before the Thanksgiving holidays and I lost a connector bolt at one of the flanges on my VW’s exhaust system. Sounded more like an old Harley than a VW.
I drove up to the shop, they had it on a rack immediately, repaired the connector, and even spot welded the connection where the pipe goes into the muffler. Out in less than a half an hour and all for half their minimum charge of $ 40. Quieter than it’s ever been. These guys were great!

Well I have to say I was TOTALLY impressed with these guys. Here is the story, this morning my car was driving funny so I went down the street from my house on sandy the place was Kens Van Dammes Automotive, they told me I needed two new shocks and my muffler was shot. They were right but said they don’t do mufflers so I should go to Midaz or something but they would do the shocks for me and the bid was 414.88 for two rear shocks. Guess what… I don’t have that kind of money. So I call my sister and she said you have to go to Master Muffler and Brakes on Lombard they are great, she said when the Fixum house messed her car up she went to these guys in her neighborhood and they did her right. Boy was she right, I called told them the issue and they quoted me over the phone for both shocks and the muffler it was 333.00 with labor~ they said 1 hour to get the parts there, I showed up at 12:45 they were friendly told me to go grab lunch up the street and they would be done in 1 hour. I came back paid the bill and the car drives like a dream and sounds great too. So if you have any shocks or muffler issues I would for sure call these guys.
Thanks for being honest and not trying to rip me off because I am a woman~
