History

Established in 1974.

Motor Sports International was established in 1974 by Wayne and Darlene Ditsworth. From its original location in West Slope, the shop moved in 1984 to its current location on Northwest Cornell Road, continuing full service and repairs to German automobiles. Such as Audi Repairs, Mercedes Benz Repairs, Porsche Repairs, Volkswagen Repairs, and BMW Repairs.

It’s difficult to accurately rate this place. The Mercedes mechanic seems to be a top notch guy. I have no complaints with the quality of the work that they have done over the years.
The less than ok rating is due to the inconsistency with their «service advisors». It’s the luck of the draw if the guy who’s there when you show up is an idiot or is someone who knows what he’s doing. There’s one guy in particular… if he’s there I just turn around and head home. He knows less about Mercedes than my pet turtle.
If you can actually get your Mercedes in front of their mechanic, the work and the prices are better than going to the Dealership. But having the wrong guy working the front desk when you come by can be a major problem.

I bought a new (used) car and took it to Les Schwab and got the standard «you need new tires, you need new struts, blah blah». I decided I wanted a second opinion and I wanted the car inspected top to bottom and was told that MSI was a good place to go. I was skeptical taking it to a mechanic I didn’t know but decided it couldn’t hurt to have it looked at. Mike and his team were so helpful and they didn’t suggest I fix anything I didn’t need. I bought new rims and tires and the rims turned out to be the wrong size but Mike helped me find ones that would fit. I will definitely be taking my car to MSI for any future needs.

My wife and I have been bringing our Mercedes here for the last several years. I also recently bought a used Audi that they have serviced a couple of times. They have always been fair, reasonably priced, and easy to work with. They also fixed an oil leak problem for a ton less than the Audi dealership.

If you have a Mercedes, only put on ceramic breaks. We had a great deal of work done on my BMW and Mercedes. So I trusted them. Since I’m not a mechanic, I went with the breaks and rotors recommended by them. They were the wrong ones. So we deal with constant noise. After talking to several mechanics and dealerships, we know the right ones to put on when I can afford it. Until then, I have to deal with the noise.

I was driving my 78 VW Bus from Southern California to Seattle and she started become lazy approaching Portland. I was fortunate enough to «break down» in front of my friend’s house in Beaverton. We called Motor Sports International the next day and they were busy all day but they said they could try to work on the bus in between jobs. They were able to fix the bus and get her back to good working order before the end of the day for an amazing good price as well. Thank you guys so much!

Unfortunately, my second trip here was not good. I took my car (VW Jetta) in for an oil/​filter change and «check engine» light diagnostic. They did the oil/​filter change and charged me $ 97.20 for the oil/​filter change alone! Now I did not request anything special. I told them I use regular oil (not synthetic). Charges broke down into 47.50 for labor and 49.70 for parts. For the diagnostics they charged me 94.40 (which is about standard anywhere else). Overall I am disappointed and will not be taking my car back. I can get better value at the VW dealership. Sorry MSI… I was really hoping this would work out.

Mechanics seem sound; the guy who does my car is top shelf. The counter help is not as good, returning phone calls is not a high priority. Instead of a timely update, I usually have to call to find out what is going on. One time i broke down and they did not even respond to my message, so not sure that feature is actually offered!

Who’s lucky enough to break down not only right in front of a mechanic, but in front of a mechanic that specializes in his car?
Well, it happened.
These guys were great. Nine out of ten shops would have tried to gouge me for a new radiator. Jim and crew diagnosed the problem right away — busted hose — and had it fixed first thing the next morning, for a very fair price.
I will be back.

Fantastic service! You might be able to find someplace to do your work for less money, but you won’t get the quality or friendly service these people provide. Very honest about everything. One car service place told me I had to replace my entire steering wheel to fix the airbag light. This place said it was just a switch in the belt buckle that was bad. That’s a $ 1000 repair vs. a $ 100 repair! While they want your business, they’re first goal is customer satisfaction. Go here if you have a German car (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, VW, etc). They know what they are doing.
