Moule

This place confuses me. I walk by every day on my way to work. They’re always having a sale. There’s never been a day when they weren’t having a sale. I guess it just makes me question reality. And pricing. What is life but one never-​ending sale?

Fantastic shop overall — beautiful clothes and other fun things — and I’ve been buying lots here for years, but the «customer service» has gotten WAY out of hand lately. I don’t want to have a conversation about every item I pick up nor to be chaperoned around the entire store. Pretty sure most people will ask for that kind of help if they need it. Tone it down, Moule (or at least get better at reading how doted-​on your customers wish to be)!

What a great store — fun items and great selection. You can buy high quality clothes, accessories, Toys, décor, shoes. Staff is super helpful — thanks to the person from Hawaii who helped me get a fashionable work shirt for my husband. And dog friendly too!

Things we’ve purchased here: A men’s Tumi all-​weather wool Tech jacket, a Michael Aram ceramic cheese platter, a girl’s vinyl rain slicker with matching boots and umbrella, cherry red women’s platform heels, a gold-​lined brass bowl also by Michael Aram, men’s shirts by G-​Star Raw, Ted Baker, and Matinique, a women’s long wool coat, and a cut-​gass opalescent bowl, among other things over the years. And now I’m sure Moule can look up this eclectic order history and figure out who I am, but it doesn’t matter. This is a wonderful store with something for everyone in your home or life. The quality is excellent and the staff is always gracious. I understand that as a small boutique they can’t accept returns on clothing (credit is offered) but I think they should, so I’ve subtracted a star.

This is an awesome boutique store for men… surprisingly. Granted, they carry women stuff too, even kiddie items but it’s a nice boutique that a couple could browse through.
I really like the brands and styles they carry. Nothing too off the wall; good practical pieces. Prices are comparable to Nordies. I think it’s worth the purchase when you find something really different and of decent quality.
Customer service was impeccable — was greeted with a warm smile. I love how they have a list of Moule’s favorite places that they provide to their customers who are visiting Portland. =) Nice touch.
Not impressed with their online website — that needs much work and does NOT represent their actual store.

Fun store. Lots of random stuff from clothes to glassware to décor. Not impressed by the clothing selection for men, but there is some super fun stuff for the home and the salesgirls are super sweet.

I love this store.
I recently bought a few items of clothing there, and I’m so HAPPY!
One thing I love to do is shopping, its a passion, and everyone at Moule seems to share that passion.
They don’t have just clothes. I will spend a good party of my time there giggling at the greeting cards, and admiring the little knick-​knacks. Its a great place for gift giving.
And most of all everyone there is super nice, helpful and fun!

Great fashion and home décor that you won’t find elsewhere in Portland. However, items are pricey and sales are infrequent.

Well let’s get into this piece of Moule review… shall we?
ATMOSPHERE: Pearl District! On Everett! I hate that they’re still doing construction around there. Very much a boutique. You walk up the stairs to be greeted by various little knick knacks, books, art, décor, random stuff. Think of that section they have at Urban Outfitters, but much better. To the left is Men’s Stuff… the the right is Women’s Stuff. Dressing Rooms in back.
SELECTION: Oh the great clothes debate. Currently on my body I am wearing a pair of $ 20.00 jeans. I also have no problem sliding my bum into a pair of $ 200.00 jeans. There is a difference but everyone has their own value perception. I hate the whole «stuff is too expensive» argument. Good shite typically costs more…& they have pretty good shite here. Boutique labels I’ve never heard of & some labels I have. Supposedly they have other stores in Canada which means they can ship you in stuff from there too if they don’t have your size, etc. Not a huge selection (this isn’t Nordstrom) but it rotates all the time. The times I’ve been in there I always see different things which may or may not be a good thing for you. LOOK AT THE SALE RACK: You can find some killer deals on stuff. That pair of Joe’s Jeans too expensive right now? Hey… I found one for 60% off one time here.
SERVICE: I like the folks here. Probably one of the biggest reasons I come back. They show me stuff, show me things on sale I might like, & I don’t feel like they’re hustling me. Helpful to ME at least. They do a good job of assisting normal folks like me, to the made of money Pearl clientele that could easily buy normal folks like me. (Hi, I’m for sale)
CURVE: Check it out. Some pricey stuff, some affordable stuff. Some decent stuff. Some fun décor things. You just might find something to put on your nekky body that you like.

I say «A-​OK», because that’s what it was.
When I walked in the lady at the counter looked up at me and, without a greeting, looked right back down. I felt so unwelcome I almost walked right out of the store.
I began to halfheartedly peruse the racks of sale items and new arrivals. Out of nowhere this perky little joy named Leslie came to my side and we immediately began joking about shades of cream that make us look ghastly. I thought most of the items there were cute, adorable, stylish, etc. But, as most have said before me, fairly pricey.
Anyway, Leslie came by while I was analyzing the shirt and what it did or didn’t do for me, she was so nice and gave me a second opinion that felt genuine.
We ended up talking for quite a while (thankfully, the subject was no longer what shades did us in). She was a pleasure to meet. Her customer service was above and beyond.

Three years in a row, and I don’t know why I keep coming to this store. I guess I am hoping to find something I can buy. I have tried a few items and the fit is horrible. The items are expensive but they seem cheaply made. I don’t need to come back again.

Oh YES! Finally a clothing store that really works in Portland. They have a good selection of sale items — and the prices aren’t completely out of normal people’s price range. The staff is really friendly and normal too. Absolutely no vibey qualities here at all. Really, really happy I found this.

I could pretty much spend my whole month’s mortgage payment and not eat to shop at this place. Seriously, everything and anything in here is exactly what I would wear, and put in my house.
I am happy that there aren’t places like this in sf or in seattle because i’d get in a lot of trouble from the mister… That’s how amazing this store is… the clothes are beautiful, the jewelery is amazing, and their little trinkets are just fantastic!!!

So I wandered into Moule yesterday and was yet again amazed and dazed by the beauty. Moule takes my breath away, it’s big and bright and beautiful!
I was looking for Christmas gifts for my husband and instead came back with a list of things I want:
1. The Pantone Coffee Mugs… LOVE THEM SOOOO MUCH!
2. About 5 pairs of the super cute bright socks! There’s polk-​a-​dot, stripes, argyle: you name it and I love them all!
3. The elbow length leather gloves with zippers going up them, lovely-​yet tough at the same time.
4. Any of the studded black or gold jewelry up front, it’s all amazing!
The last time I had been in Moule was probably a year or 2 ago and they had these amazing yellow lamp bases that were huge and bright and perfect and I was in awe. I didn’t buy them (not sure what was wrong with me!) and then saw them on The Rachel Zoe Project this year and they are even more beautiful than I remember and I’m still mad at myself! So if my list isn’t under the tree… I’ll see you on the 27^th, Moule!

What caught my eye were the mannequin displays wearing very fashionable clothes made of Tissue paper. I thought it was unique and artsy and drew my attention immediately. They offer clothes and toys for children as well as home décor and clothing for women. It is very clean and modern, fit for the pearl district.
The staff was super friendly and helped me get prices for some of the things on display, she even made some of those tissue paper dresses outside. i was very impressed by the fashion and goods of this store.

Super small sizes! Jeez, an xxl shirt wouldn’t fit on my left leg, let alone my normally XL torso. Is this a store for midgets, junkies, or junkie midgets? Or all three, with trust accounts!
That said, the staff is super friendly, the clothes are really nice (albeit super spendy), and the gifts/​nick nacks in the store are very cool. If I had access to a Pearl district trust fund, I would shop here more often.
I tried to buy something here, but couldn’t find anything that fit. There was one shirt on sale for $ 115 that I would have bought had it been in my size, but when it was labeled as an xxl and was about a 38 size, I just got baffled and left. I guess my wallet is sometimes thankful that I have the silhouette of a linebacker.
I’ll stick with my enchiladas en mole, but I will suggest this as a good place to shop for my midget junkie trust fund buddy.

So what is up with Cat In The Hat side by side with the Kama Sutra and Playboy books? Even though I left bewitched, bothered and bewildered, without any purchases mind you, I can’t get this place out of my mind. And it is not because of the reading material (get your mind out of the gutter!)
I went through a ton of stores yesterday as part of a Pearl walkabout, but this place had the most beautiful designer duds. They had some Ted Baker tailored pieces that were to die for. Actually I think my husband would pass out in a dead faint if I purchased any of the ridiculously expensive items here ($ 300 and up).
There is no rhyme or reason to some of the other merchandise in store. Really, why bother with the kids items unless the plan is to hand the kiddo some reading material while mommy shops.
The other reason why this place stuck out in my mind is that I had the most charming saleswoman who greeted me promptly and showed me all around even though I told her up front I was a looky-​loo. She was adorable. Maybe she’ll babysit my kids? I’ll provide the books, natch.

This is the oddest, most out of place store I have ever been.
I went in last summer after hearing they opened. Their selection is odd, as I walked in no one greeted me and on my right was a table with a Playboy series of books with titles like «Best of Brunettes.» Above that table was their children’s clothes. I have no problem with their choice of reading material, it was the placement that was odd.
The friend I was with studied Fashion Design and has been a designer in Europe for year with her own label and thought the material and design of the clothes they were pricey for the quality. The selection looked good and for someone who does not know about what my friend did the woman’s selection was modern, funky and very posh (avg price $ 150+)
We walked though the large store for almost an hour without anyone saying hello, although the staff was available-​they chatted at the register in the back.
On our way out we passed the center table with children’s accessories and a few onesies with some odd sayings (I don’t remember them but I friend reminded later that they received a gift from here for their newborn that said, «My father is a motherfucker») CLASSY.
Right in front of the door was a jewelery case with Mezzuzahs (Jewish good luck that attach to the frame.)
The large store had Playboy books, children’s clothes, high-​end woman’s duds, kids potties and then pricey Mezzuzah. This store is having an identity crisis, this is the kind of place that Xtina would shop for kids clothes.

The best new store on Portland (and HUGE!), with great hard-​to-​find designers, a well rounded gift area and a small kids section. They also have a nice selection of menswear, although I find it has too many screenprinted t-​shirts and not enough casual wear for guys.
The womens clothing, however, is amazing. Including owner Rachel Mara’s line that you can’t find anywhere else.
Watch for great sales and be sure to talk to the ladies (Nicole!) that work there — the nicest around.
