I can’t like this cart enough. Every dish is fantastic. They really care about every ingredient. So much love. The pimento grilled cheese and tomato soup was a perfect lunch for a rainy day. Bravo. See you soon.

Delicious smells emanate from this food truck as you approach. I had a delicious, humongous fried chicken sandwich with green tomatoes and a fluffy bun. The batter is light and crispy without being overly greasy. I’ll be back for more!

I just love this cart. They make everything from scratch, and with expertise. So many food carts in Portland just get cash and carry ingredients and serve them to the masses. This is food made with real love. Everything is made with the best possible ingredients ave amazing attention to detail. Best kept secret in Portland.

Writing an update since they’ve moved, and I think they deserve the attention. They’ve moved to the new pod, the Gantry in Zidell Yards, next to the aerial tram. As mentioned in my previous review, the service is fantastic. Lauren greeted me with a smile, and called me by my name. A bit of a surprise considering we hadn’t introduced ourselves to each other, but not unusual in today’s social media culture, especially since I wrote a review and liked a few posts on Facebook, but definitely shows they’re paying attention… As I mentioned in my previous review, this is the first place to really«wow» me in the month since I’ve relocated to Portland. Today was my third visit, and I had the tonkatsu steam bun($ 7) as well as the fried okra($ 5). The tonkatsu was thick and super tender, and their house made tonkatsu sauce was fantastic, a nice blend of sweet with some citrus notes adding a nice acidity. Kewpie was a nice touch. The fried okra was a generous serving of pickled, whole okra with a cornmeal batter. While both the tonkatsu and okra were deep fried, they do a fantastic job of making their deep friend items«light», avoid the dense, well-done/overcooked nature of most deep fried food. The batters are light and fluffy, the food isn’t overly greasy, and the pork and the okra both had fantastic texture to them.

I am not a Portland native, but i stumbled upon this gem while visiting the knife shop next door. Since being away from my home in the south, it was comforting to see that genuine southern hospitality again. I learned that Lauren and Graham are fantastic at what they do after the first bite. Their food suited their personality, simply flavorful and stunning. I’ve worked in the the restaurant industry my entire life, but only in recent years I’ve been trying my hand in a professional kitchen. When people do this thing right, its no simple task, and it’s definitely appreciated. I strive to be as passionate and excellent as the people who created Neue.

So delicious! I live nearby and visited for the first time today. Everything was super flavorful and unique. I love, love the use of vinegar in the pickles and Brussel sprouts(truly a southern touch)! Can’t wait to go back and try some more of the menu.

I had the banh mi buns and my wife had the schnitzel. Both were absolutely delicious. Best food we’ve had in weeks! Service was quick and friendly, can’t ask for more!

This is easily one of the best food trucks I’ve been to, and I’ve been to my fair share(30 – 40, at least). We had one of everything on the menu. Food is delicious, portions are extremely generous in my opinion. Excellent!

I have ways. Even a little scared to try food pods. But the last few months I gone outside my comfort zone and glad I have. If you like steamed beans this would be a good one to try.

At this point I have been living in Portland for just shy of a year and I have now had my share of really good food from the carts across the city. I have had some great cuisine from people who love their craft. Then there is Neue Southern. There are at least three good reasons that set this cart apart, besides the fact that the chefs live two doors away from me. One, they both are culinary school trained chefs. Two, this was a successful food truck back in South Carolina where they came here from and three, both Graham and Lauren have worked in Michelin Star restaurants. So you have two very talented people creating amazing food for you. I have sampled their food before, and they’ve even had some of my food creations(and enjoyed it) and I know that whatever I ate it would be worth it. You have to like the option of telling a chef to make you whatever they want. They have a nice small menu with soup, quail, steamed buns and other items. They made me steamed buns. Cascade Farms pork belly, a sorgum molasses based sauce, in-house made pickles and bun with white and black sesame seeds on top. Simply, wow. I will say that again, simply wow. The bun was light, the sauce had a soy taste to it and not at all sweet, which was nice. Those homemade pickles were a great compliment and the pork belly was like butter! The fatty goodness, so moist, so tasty and I could eat a few more without keeling over. The food is a mix of southern and Asian and they blend the styles very well. At some point, all of my elite friends and well everyone need to try some food from here. You will not be disappointed and your stomach will thank you. Thanks to Lauren and Graham, I will bring others by soon! Enjoy!

Some of the tastiest food I have ever put in my mouth. The Oyster po boy was delicious and may have surpassed the ones I’ve tried in New Orleans. The couple who owns the cart were friendly… hilarious, passionate about what they were doing, and incredibly talented. Finally, some real deal southern inspired food in Portland! I will definitely be back soon– and by soon, I mean tomorrow.

When this food cart showed up in this pod, I got pretty excited. I grew up on southern food, and here was a cart dedicated to just that, a few blocks away from my apartment. It was a long wait while they prepared and got the necessary permits, etc, and I waited as patiently as I could. Boy, that excitement was warranted, because the food is spectacular. I ordered the fried quail and a pumpkin whoopie pie, and while it was being made, I was able to chat with the couple who owns and runs it. They are very friendly and just as excited to serve me as I was to eat the food. The meal easily deserves more than the five stars I can give it. The quail was cooked well, and was delicious. The breading on the quail was simply incredible. The biscuit and pickles rounded the meal out nicely. The whoopie pie was a gigantic piece of love. One thing I will say as a warning is that the quail is not something you can eat while looking dignified or do something else during. You’re going to want to focus 100% on the quail, and you will definitely need at least a few napkins after. It is truly hard to describe how good the food was, and I will definitely be returning as much as I can.
