Super fresh seafood and reasonable prices. I bought clams and crab here to make a new years seafood feast for friends and the seafood quality was amazing. Its also a fun place to visit. I will be back soon!

I was massively impressed with the customer service that was provided. I called a week ahead and placed an order for 2 live lobsters the day after valentine’s day. I was a smidge disappointed when they messed up and lost my order but the young man behind the counter was so apologetic. I didn’t even say that I was upset,(messing up orders happens we all make mistakes :)) and he offered us two free tails and some shrimp! He was so sweet and completely made up for my missing live lobsters. They really went above and beyond to make a wonderful lasting impression. Thanks for making my day after valentine’s celebration wonderful!

This is one of the very few places to buy fresh fish in Portland. And they know it because there is just so much attitude here. It isn’t a friendly place. They scoff at you when you try to give them business. Every time we shop here, there is a different scoffing. This last time, we wanted to buy a few Kumamoto oysters. Our request was met with negativity: «you can’t buy 12 of them» My husband and I looked at each other quizzically — what? After a few more strange exchanges, the sales clerk finally explained that 12 of them were«reserved», adding snarkily«people reserve them» like we should know this. We only wanted two. I guess they could accomodate us then. The other thing that bothers me is that they don’t use latex gloves. They just use their bare hands handling our fish. And, they don’t bother labeling the package when you buy multiple breeds of oysters. They don’t care whether you get to know the names, apparently. The one time my husband asked them to please label two different bags, they mixed up the oysters in the wrong bags so the exercise was futile. These folks just don’t care to provide friendly helpful customer service. You are privileged to be able to buy from them. That is their attitude. Oh, and it’s also the kind of place where you have to persist for their attention. Goes with this territory. It’s shameful.

Newman’s is THE place to buy fresh, delicious, locally sourced seafood in Portland.

I grew up going to Newman’s in Eugene; I don’t know if this place is related, but I like to think it is. Great fresh fish, friendly service, clean facility. There’s parking in the back behind City Market. I don’t go anywhere else in town for fish, smoked fish, herring, mussels, clams, crabs, etc. Highly recommend.

First off, this isn’t a fish market like I think a fish market should be. I was looking for something along the lines of a scaled down Pike Street Market in Seattle. You’d think Portland should have such a place. Don’t go here if you are looking for big blocks of sashmi either. You should have seen the look on their faces when I asked for a 2lb block of sashmi. All you’ll find is Ahi steaks which looked ok, but I was leary because it seemed over priced. Supposedly, they get their fish flown in fresh packed on ice from Hawaii. Don’t get me wrong, this market is much better than a Safeway or Fred Meyer, they do have live tanks, but I felt like the prices were too step for me. I bailed and went to Uwajimaya who has a much bigger selection of fresh fish, and seafood, plus I like to watch them cut my fish fresh.

The freshest full service seafood market around! They keep tanks of live crabs, oysters, clams, and other assorted delicasies. All of the fish I have bought from them has been top notch, and by far fresher than Safeway or Fred Meyer. I like it better than whole foods also. They smoke their own fish which I have to indulge in on occasion. They are also happy to special order things for you, which is pretty cool. I know it sounds weird, but try the smoked salmon collars. They have more fat in them, so they are especially moist and flavorful. This market is in The City Market with Viande, Pastaworks, and the flower shop. It’s a good little market to find specialty items. Thats mostly what I come in for in addition to the fish.
