james, the owner came out immediately as the truck had a fuel leak… he suggested what it might be, tank, vs fule line, etc… it was hot, and james was funny, friendly, and wonderful… first we had to stop by my place and get my car first, which was fine… we will refer anybody to james at this tow company… thx!

North side towing is amazing! After having a horrible day and locking my kids in my car, and calling multiple locksmiths, which where insanely expensive, I found north side towing! Being in recovery and relating to this company they saved my day with such a reasonable price. Thank you so much!

First off when they arrived and the Heavy set guy jumps out of the truck and starts talking like a drunken sailor one could see why he has his owns his own company. I would have to believe these other Reviews were from either family or friends or Mr James himself.
He wanted to charge us 3 times more for a tow we had just a week earlier that was $ 90 with another company. He Said were a professional tow company not one of those rip off tow companies… Really, he must think everyone is just plain stupid. My girlfriend told him to take his truck and leave. We waited another hour for another tow company to arrive, had a quick bite to eat while waiting for next company which only charged us $ 100 for the tow. They didn’t use foul language or try to tell us how important they were either. Buyer beware, if they say there Professional most likely there not.

My car broke down out of nowhere on my way home from a weekend trip, and I had to leave it in a residential neighborhood in Vancouver overnight. James (I presume it was James anyway based on other reviews) was very patient, down to earth, and helpful throughout this stressful ordeal. He even had several auto shops he was able to suggest based on where I live. He showed up to my car before I was able to get there and had it ready to leave in under 10 minutes.
James was very friendly, reliable, and obviously knows what he’s doing! It looks like my car is on its last leg and won’t be needing towing ever again, but I would definitely recommend these guys to anyone who needs help in the future.

Everyone loves James, and we’re no exception. In case you’re suspicious — a commendable reading strategy here on Unilocal — please note that we are not related to James, nor do we enjoy his presence in our social lives, nor have we received any sort of recompense for expressing our warm feelings here. (That’s not to say we wouldn’t enjoy having James around the house for off-​the-​clock canapes. Call us, James.) No, James is getting so massively name-​checked in these reviews because he seems to be a low-​cost, one-​man towing operation with the power to bend time and space to his will. How else do you explain that everyone who calls him gets prompt, reliable, and unfailingly courteous service? I can only speculate that a man with his abilities chose this field because he knew how desperately it needed him. Shitty tow-​truck drivers abound, and there’s nothing quite as dispiriting as standing over an expensive car problem in the Portland weather while waiting — hopelessly — for one to arrive. It’s times like these you need principled and kindly help, and that’s what James faultlessly provides.
So thanks, James. You rescued us from the rain, and just as importantly, from our generally unceasing cynicism. For real: tell us your favorite hors d’oeuvres and we’ll provide them on some dank and cold evening when you worry all your hard work goes unappreciated. You’ve earned them, man.

James is an absolute SAINT! The guys is an absolute gentleman and knows his stuff. I honestly could not have asked for a better helping hand in my time of need. Dead battery (I thought) while parked at Arbor Lodge New Seasons in June. I called and got the BEST service! First of all, James picked me up at my house, since it is between his place and New Seasons, then he pulled into that crowded parking lot with those small parking spaces. It took only a minute to see it was not a dead battery — turned out I needed a new starter. In just a very few minutes he had my car pushed out of its space and hooked up to his truck and off we went to Larry’s to have it fixed. I like this guy: professional, friendly, affordable, and PROMPT.

My 2007 Prius was dead when I returned from a Timbers game. I left it in the parking lot overnight and returned on Sunday to try to jump it. I failed miserably! I had looked at Northside earlier, just in case I needed a tow. I called from the site, and James gave an estimate of 25 minutes. His projected bill included flatbed rate, hookup, miles, and skates (when the battery dies on a Prius, the front wheels remain in park, so skates are necessary). It all seemed reasonable I told him that I already tried to jump the car.
James showed up right at 25 minutes. Then he proceeded to show me how to jump a Prius. I used to work for AAA, so I was pretty sure I new what I was doing, but a Prius is quite different. It’s simple once you know, but not at all intuitive. My total bill was $ 60 (on a Sunday!) and I was driving away within 5 minutes of his arrival, and now I know the secret of jumping a Prius.

It just doesn’t get any better! James was polite, professional, and pretty punctual with getting to our location, and getting our vehicle to its destination. James charged a competitive price, did not haggle about it, and he even had some insight as to the actual problem our SUV was having. The bottom line is this… If you need a tow, there’s nowhere else to go «Northside Towing & Recovery.»

t’s obviously an incredibly stressful experience when you get in a wreck and/​or your car breaks down. James is so patient and accommodating that it makes the first step in your car repair process an easy one. Two examples below.
Summer 2014-​Got stranded at Jantzen Beach. Called James and he showed up promptly. Super friendly and polite! Tolerant of a cranky four year old we had in tow (pun!).
1÷23÷15 I called James after my car broke down. And maybe my car broke down after I l kept driving it after a fender bender. Who knows? I’m not a doctor.
I ditched my car, then called James to tow my car from Beaverton to a shop SE 82^nd street for me. It had to be there by 8am Saturday and I called at rush hour Friday. I was a total mess, but he was very patient with me during the multiple calls it took for me to relay all relevant details. I texted him payment info (my request), and although I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting him in person, it was so convenient to get everything taken care of over the phone.

Had to get my car towed to a nearby repair shop. Northside did it at a reasonable price, no hassles, fast service, great communication. Everything went smooth. Thank you !

I locked my keys in my car at Target on Jantzen Beach and only had my phone for help. Called Northside Towing and he was literally there in about five minutes. Got me in and my keys! He was very polite and helpful… was so relieved to be in and out quickly!

A+. Arrived exactly on time, even after I gave incorrect directions. He worked with me to try and diagnose the problem on my car before towing it. Great job.

I had to get my car towed to a repair shop and was very apprehensive about using a tow company. I’ve only had bad experiences with tow yards/​companies so I was expecting the worst. But Northside Towing was incredible. Very attentive and the rates are very fair. Thank you so much, you rock!

My car broke down in the middle of the night after a long road trip. I thought it was gonna be so complicated to arrange to have my car towed late on a Friday night. I was so wrong. I arranged for a ride because I thought it would be a long wait.. the guy was there before my ride even got there. The driver was quick and made what I thought was a big deal, simple. I also appreciated how quite the whole thing was. It was late and I was somewhat concerned about waking up my neighbors, but the truck was really nice and quiet. I don’t write many reviews but, the guy said he was a newer business and I want to put it out there that if you need help with stranded car or roadside assistance I would give them a call.

Greatest price on towing in the Portland area. James is a very helpful guy. It sucked to have to get my vehicle towed but he made it an overall good experience.
