I really wanted to like this place and I almost feel bad because Taylor was so nice, but I ended up with a terrible cut. I’ve been on the hunt for a new salon/​stylist for a while and the reviews seemed promising. I went in with pretty long hair (past my bra strap) and showed Taylor a long a-​line as my inspiration. I explained that my hair is super heavy and I needed more movement. I emphasized a few times that I wanted longer in the front then shorter in the back. I also explained that I normally curl my hair giving it a beachy wave look. He was very concerned about me going shorter and wanted to make sure I was sure. He slowly cut the length in front to ensure I was happy with the length. This was really nice of him to be considerate of this decision, but the rest of the cut is awful.
He dry cut my hair, which hadn’t been washed in a day so it was a bit greasy, and didn’t show me the length in the back before he curled it. I thought it looked pretty cute but I should have checked the back before I left!
After washing, drying and attempting to style it, I realized that what I ended up with was a very blunt, uneven, and choppy bob that is impossible to wear straight because it’s so uneven and and a challenge to wear curly/​wavy because its so blunt and heavy. I could cry. I thought I was so clear with what I wanted. So basically the $ 50 haircut was a complete waste of time and money and something I will have to spend more money on fixing it.

So like I told Taylor, I’m kind of a freak when it comes to getting my hair cut. I just moved to Portland and saw good reviews for Taylor, so I made an appointment online. (Which is super easy by the way!) when I went in I had an idea of what I wanted. We talked it out and he told me he thought with the texture of my hair and shape of my face it would be better if we went a slightly different direction. I agreed and I am so happy I did!!! I love my hair cut and Taylor is sooo good! Go see him yesterday!

I hate getting haircuts. I have very curly hair and the haircuts I get typically leave me in tears. I hadn’t found someone in Portland yet but I desperately needed one. So I went to Taylor and boy am I glad I did. He was very knowledgeable on how to cut and style curly hair. He does a dry cut that, for all you curly girls, is essential to a good curly haircut. He
some great tips for styling and maintenance. And he’s just wonderfully nice. A haircut that would have cost be at least 150 at most high end New York salons only cost.50 for the same exact quality. I would highly recommend this salon. I’ll certainly be going back.

When you move to a new area, there are certain connections you want to make sure you get right: for instance, your new doctor/​dentist, your new mechanic, and your new hairdresser. Finding Taylor at One Creativity and Design made me feel like I’ve stuck my landing here in Portland!
First, the salon. It’s located in a convenient neighborhood, right next to the Goose Hollow/​SW Jefferson St. MAX station. Another plus, it’s across from Starbucks and next to Laughing Planet in case you want to grab a quick coffee or lunch before your appointment. The salon itself is light and sunny, and small enough to feel intimate but arranged so as not to feel cramped. Oh, and their online appointment scheduler is super user-​friendly.
Taylor is a great stylist. He really took his time getting to know my preferences and what I was looking for in a haircut … I felt like he was really listening to me. I’m really glad I listened to his suggestions, as I’ve ended up with a cut that is only slightly different from my old cut, but a big improvement in maintenance. He really knows his stuff when it comes to wavy hair like mine. On top of all that, Taylor is a genuinely nice guy.

Nick is Fabulous and my hair is even better. Need I say more? Okay, twist my arm. I went in and asked for blunt bangs and a little more style to my boring hair and he did an incredible job. My bangs were exactly what I wanted, he was sure to ask plenty of questions and let me know what he was doing. He trimmed and shaped it and best of all: I styled it myself this morning and it was *easier* to style after getting it cut. I HATE when I can’t get the same style ever again after leaving the salon. He nailed it and I am most definitely going back.

Last weekend I had Nick Lee color and cut my hair. He was fantastic. I’m thrilled with the outcome. I came in with an uneven cut and a dull color, and walked out looking and feeling more vibrant. Nick is very talented and focused, and is obviously passionate about doing hair. I would absolutely recommend seeing Nick.

I’m unsure if it was a loss of communication or if I was very unclear of what I wanted but I am very disappointed in my visit with Danielle. I have always been very hesitant letting anyone touch and cut my hair, the last person prior being a friend of mine almost a year ago. Having curly hair I was excited to come across such a cute salon with stylists that were familiar with curly hair in my neighborhood. Danielle had awesome reviews and fit my schedule so I made an appointment– that I anticipated for over a week.
I came in with long curly hair when dry reaching half way down my back. After talking with Danielle about what type of cut I would like she explained to me how the cut I wanted wouldn’t turn out how I wanted. How my curls grow differently and the volume on top of my head would only come from styling it. Ok. I was ok with the information. I knew my hair was choppy from the last trim so I thought we came to the conclusion of just a trim, evening out my hair, keeping it past my shoulders. I guess I shouldn’t of made the comment, «I’m tired of combing it.’ lol
She began dry cutting my hair (which I know is how curly hair should be cut) so I enjoyed my rare salon visit, the atmosphere, and just relaxed. When she finished cutting half of my hair and showed me, it was waaaaaaaay shorter then I would’ve wanted. I’ve had short hair growing up, so I stayed optimistic with the dry cut and let her continue.
With the cut done, hair rinsed, a few different products added, she then put me under a blow dryer. Which I thought curly hair should dry naturally or be towel dried? I sat under the dryer for ten minutes and I could awkwardly see her in the mirror check her snapchat, and send a few texts. Made me feel like I needed to pull out my phone. Awkward… After the dryer she ran her fingers through my roots just frizzing and poofing my hair, and I could finally see how short my hair was. DEFINITELY not past my shoulders, I was devastated.
I have short hair, and I kind of feel 14 again. Don’t think I will be returning.

I really really want to like this salon but after 3 appointments I can say that it is just not a good fit for me. I recently moved to Portland to New York and I came across One Creativity on Unilocal!My first appt was with Emanuel. I told him that I was hoping to do a soft ombré. He told me that there wasn’t enough time to do ombré and he wasn’t sure what color my red would lighten up to. So my only options were to either do a balayage with a small amount of highlights or do one test strip of hair and come back in later if the color was ok. I opted for balayage. The end result was underwhelming to say the least. You couldn’t see the highlights and I felt like as if I paid extra for a service that he did just to appease me.
My next appointment was with Danielle thinking she might be a better fit. She definitely gave me the ombré I wanted but was unable to make the color seamless. I had hot red roots, medium brown middle, and blonde ends but it was much closer to what I wanted but not perfect.
Finally my most recent appointment, my hair doesn’t seem to fade well with the red so I look like Neapolitan ice cream, lots of layers of color. I asked if she could try and get rid of all the lines of demarcation while keeping the ombré. This proved to be impossible. I ended up with bright red roots, brown middle, and blonde ends each with a strong line of where the color began and ended. I expressed my concern to Danielle and we decided that it’s not possible for me to have ombré hair because it doesn’t hold the red pigment well. So I opted for all over color instead. Without consulting what color red I wanted Danielle mixed up a glaze and went to work. I am now 3 shades darker than I want to be. It doesn’t match my skin tone and it’s going to be a pain to fix.
I know that I am perfectionist and that can be super annoying in a client. However I have never had so much trouble trying to attain the color I want.
Side note with exception to Taylor who is incredible no one is very chatty or welcoming. At no point did Danielle or Emanuel try to talk to me or get to know me while I was in their chair.

This little salon is my go-​to when I need the job done. After trying out several salons via groupon, I was very disappointed in the quality of services I was getting. I finally decided to ditch the groupon route of searching for a salon and found One Creativity.
I have really long hair and wanted to color it. I didn’t want to go to a salon that used harsh chemicals and damaged my locks. Since my first dye job, I have had 2 more in the past year and a half. My hair is still long and super healthy. Danielle does a fantastic job choosing tones that work well with my hair. I always get compliments on my color and health of my hair. I owe it all to Danielle. I highly recommend this salon and especially Danielle. If you’re unsure, go in for a consult and she can give you recommendations.

I’ll start this review by saying that I don’t get haircuts frequently, and when I have it’s been with the same woman since I was three. After having moved from NYC to Portland, it’s been a challenge for me to let go and hope to find someone out here who would know what to do with my naturally wavy, hispanic hair.
Today I finally just bit the bullet. After a rough day at work I decided I needed a bit of pampering and called up One, hoping that, somehow, I’d be able to get squeezed in. Taylor answered the phone and, to my delight, was able to take me right away. The experience once there was even better– not only did he walk me through what I wanted done (making sure that I was, in fact, prepared to cut all of my very long hair off like I insisted that I did when walking through the door), but helping me to feel at ease about my decision even while my friends and family weren’t 100% sure. In the end, after talking it through, we settled on a bob– all the while having great conversation. It wasn’t long before he had it at the perfect length and cut in a stylish, age-​appropriate way (it’s easy to make me look much older than I am). I can’t even begin to describe how happy I am with my new ‘do and I am definitely going back to see him when I need a trim.

My girl Lindsey moved out of state but recommended her colleague Danielle at One Creative. It was with Lindsay last fall that I took the plunge and chopped off nearly a foot of my curly hair. I just had a little Spring trim and am loving the new bounce in my curls. Danielle’s cut lasted well and I was just itching for a tiny trim.

I recently went to One Creativity and Design and what a great surprise. I got my hair cut and colored by Taylor. He is new to the Salon, but obviously he has been in the business a while. He is, extremely knowledgeable about cutting and coloring hair. I felt very pampered while he colored my hair, and I loved the way it looked when he was all finished. He gives the best shampoo and head massages ever. He really listened while I told him what I wanted, and then he made good suggestions as to how my hair could look even better than I thought. My hair is very curly, and Taylor was the most knowledgeable stylist about curly hair. He knew how to cut it for the best look, and he knew exactly how it should be styled.
I look forward to going back to see Taylor and One Creativity. The salon is very stylish, and I really liked the ambiance.

I’ve been coming here for a couple years now after trying to find a regular hairdresser in Portland for years. Emmanuel is fantastic and always does a great job. I completely trust him with my hair and many of my coworkers and friends now do, as well! Reasonably priced, no pressure, and he has an awesome line of natural products (many of which he mixes himself!). Definitely recommend.

Stop here on a whim when visiting Portland and I was not disappointed. Taylor did a great job listening to what I wanted and gave me a fantastic cut and color. My curls feel and look bouncy and full of life.

My guy Taylor recently made the move over to One, so of course I followed. The location is really convenient, right near Providence Park, and finding parking isn’t a problem. The décor is modern yet comfortable. Tea, coffee, or whatever you’re up for are offered upon arrival.
Tay is so much fun to talk with, there’s never a dull moment. I love having a hair stylist who is easy to chat with; it makes the time go by that much faster. Besides being a nice guy he is the ultimate professional. He listens to what you want and is happy to make suggestions based on the needs of your hair. Every time I come out feeling like a million bucks. His techniques are on point, great for a cut and color in equal measure.

Shamus McClellan is the best I haven’t found a review on him yet so I’m ready! If you want some fabulous hair and a good conversation he’s your guy. From hip hop to fly fishing he keeps the conversation flowing. I got a cut and color and my hair feels and looks great!!! He listened to me and I truly enjoyed the whole experience a little hidden gem! And for all the hair I have the price point was dead on! I can not wait have another appointment on Halloween for a style with emmanuel and I know it will be amazing as well! All over fabulous experience and I will be back

If I could give more than 5 stars, I completely would.
I just moved from Florida a little less than a year ago, where I had an amazing hairy stylist I saw for 10 years. In the 10 years we experimented with color after color, leaving my hair (which is pretty strong) damaged, but not too damaged. When I moved to Portland in January, I had to have my bleached white-​blonde from my original nearly-​black hair for a theater production I was a part of. I ended the process with terrible, beyond repair damage that included breakage in the worst places and frying my beautiful, natural waves.
I went to another salon in Beaverton saying I wanted layers and smooth bangs, etc. Long story short, she BUTCHERED my hair.
THIS is where ONE comes in. I booked an appointment with Emmanuel and honestly, I feel like this is the absolute best money I have ever spent. I am not lying. I know what good hair looks like, and while mine is obviously still damaged (it was pretty bad) it looks better than it has EVER looked.
One Creativity and Design is conveniently placed and easy to find. The most difficult part about the process was opening the door. I was greeted by Taylor (I think that’s his name) who was very kind and offered me drinks immediately. As I waited, I saw Danielle and Emmanuel both working on other clients, who both also looked amazing.
Emmanuel very carefully analyzed my hair and told me exactly what he could do to help me and what needed to be done. I had about half a foot of fried, frizzy hair, and choppy bangs for him to work with. But he is an artist. He started cutting and he was very focused, yet very laid back. Through out the process, he gave me amazing tips on how to help my hair become stronger again. I also got a color done and I am so impressed with the color he gave me. I told him I just want a clean slate, and my hair to be as back to «normal as possible». He gave me that and so much more. He taught me how to curl my hair best, and the curls he gave me honestly surprised me, as they were ringlets I hadn’t seen since I was probably 8.
I’m sure I’ve reiterated several things in this review, but I can not stress enough how WORTH THE TIME AND MONEY THIS IS.
Also, side note. I sat next to Danielle as she colored this other woman’s hair to a bright, vivid red. I was pretty mesmerized by it.
Everyone here is so professional, nice, dedicated, and they all know their stuff.
You can not go wrong.

Lindsay did a fantastic dry cut on my thick, wavy/​curly hair. She listened to me, took her time with the cut, and I walked out with a beautifully designed long curly bob. She was easy to talk to, gave good advice, and the price was very reasonable.

This was probably the best haircut of my life, and definitely the most efficient. I have a LOT of hair, so I’m used to spending several hours at the salon as they chop away layer after layer. However, Emmanuel ran his hands through my hair and knew exactly how to handle it. I already washed my hair before arriving, but I was still amazed by how quickly he was able to transform my poofy overwhelming mess into a sleek, clean cut. I wasn’t going for a style change, just to trim and clean things up, but Emmanuel still managed to work wonders. He used a different technique than I’m used to – dry cut, straightened, and then cut with a razor — honestly, I’m not really sure how he did it, but I’m very happy with the result!
I also really appreciate the natural products they blend at the salon. That definitely sets them apart, but at the same time Emmanuel recommended a regular coconut oil treatment instead of attempting to convince me to buy products that I can’t afford like most other salons would.
Emmanuel created a very low maintenance cut, which is exactly what I needed. He knew I was growing my hair out, and the trim won’t require regular upkeep. I usually get my hair cut about once or twice a year, so this works perfectly for me! I really appreciated his honesty about this. Most hairdressers will tell me to come back in 6 weeks or so and I say ok, roll my eyes, and then ignore the recommendation until things get really desperate. This cut should grow in nicely, and I will definitely go back to One Creativity when needed.
Lastly, the atmosphere in here was perfect. The stylists were obviously very knowledgable and talented, but there wasn’t the slightest bit of stuffyness or snobbery. How refreshing! I can’t wait to return in the spring.
