Solidly grounded in the importance of community connections, Sarah gets nostalgic when talking about her hometown of Salem, Oregon. «I grew up working in my father’s dental office and saw how eager patients were to share what they had been up to since their last visit. I watched families grow, and enjoyed the lasting relationship we had with all of them. I knew that would always be an important factor in my career too. I LOVE what I do.

Ryan, a Portland native, finds it especially rewarding to be back in the neighborhood he grew up in, working with long-​time friends and family.

I could not ask for a better experience. I chipped one of my front teeth. The folks at Pitman were very professional and thorough in their examination, then laid out my options and the associated risks and let me make my own choice. When I chose to «just live with» the chip, they were supportive and told me what to expect. I later decided to have the chip fixed. The pride they took in their work was matched only by their concern that I was satisfied with the results. I don’t hesitate to recommend them to friends.

I want a dentist that spends an extra thirty minutes getting me numb because I’m a big baby and whine whenever the needle gets close. One that finds space for an emergency filling even when it’s not really an emergency. An office that runs on time and smoothly.
Pitman isn’t the cheapest but are part of Intel’s premium tier and so 90% of costs are covered. Personally, I don’t want the cheapest of anything being put in my mouth.
Also, my previous dentists were single practitioner offices and I strongly recommend going to a place with two. It makes scheduling and urgent issues so much easier to deal with and every once in a while you want a second set of eyes on something. Been with them for over 5 years and would continue seeing them even if I moved out of Portland.

I have an expensive mouth. I have been to many dentists over the years and I am just so impressed with the Pitman duo. Not only are they wonderful and gentle and thorough, the entire staff here is nothing short of amazing and just all around awesome. I’ve seen some dentists in the past with manners less than optimal and I actually look forward going here. The prices are reasonable, and getting an appointment as a patient is easy and quick. I had an abcessed tooth last week and they got me in ASAP and had me sent for a root canal that very day. They also got me the antibiotics I needed when the hospital wouldn’t supply me any (oh weekend dental woes!).
I recommend these guys highly.

There is a reason this business gets the rating and reviews it does. Hands down one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at a dentist’s office. This was my first visit to Pitman. Dr. Pitman and her staff spent two hours with me going over any issues and cleaning. Dr. Sarah Pitman’s chair side manner is incredible… you quickly get the sense she really cares about her patients. They’ve got the latest technology and are as close to paperless as I’ve ever seen any medical business be. The hand off from Dr. Pitman to her staff (Jen) for cleaning and the front desk (Hailey) is smooth. Actually the great service starts from the time you book your appointment to the follow ups prior to your visit. What a great dental practice.

Going to the dentist always sucks, but it’s much better if you like your dentist. The staff is always great, they help with timing appointments for insurance. They are always super friendly and play relaxing music. I had a steady stream of Ray Lamontagne for my last cavity which put some nerves at ease. They put a guard over your mouth so you’re not choking and gagging the whole time, and take photos of your teeth to truly monitor any potential issues.

Nothing but 5 star reviews says a lot. These people are great.
They get it — dentistry is more than cleaning teeth. They don’t shame you here, they don’t treat you like a kid (unless, you know, you’re a kid…), they don’t upsell or pressure you on work. Rather, they take time to explain, clarify, ask, help, and ensure you have a great set of chompers to last your whole life.
Everyone is great — from the front desk to the hygienists, and especially the doctors Pitman (husband and wife team).
I’ve been to a fair share of dentists, but this one is the best. Like most, I don’t love going to the dentist, but they make it enjoyable and have me looking forward to my next appointment.

I have lived in Portland for 4 years but was putting off finding a dentist because I liked my old one so much i just kept going back to them every time I went to visit. But I knew I needed to find someone. So I tried this place because they had great reviews and I liked it being a husband and wife team.
They have a very nice office. Clean, up-​to-​date and well done. the receptionist was really friendly and knowledgeable and I loved the dentist. He was funny and helpful. He took pictures of all my teeth so he could explain everything to me. that was so helpful. He really took his time, and I didn’t feel like he was trying to sell me anything or get me to do anything that wasn’t necessary. That felt great.
I have a jay alignment problem and he recommended I see and orthodontist. He said he wouldn’t feel comfortable trying to work on it himself. that felt great, instead of just wanting the money to do something himself that was better done by a specialist.
I have been recommending him to everyone.

I just moved to Portland and was nervous about switching dentists, but once i got there I was totally okay with the change. The first week here, one of my fillings fell out, I got an appointment with them within a day, and it was a great experience. All of the staff is super friendly, and very knowledgeable. I had a small cavity that he filled and it didn’t hurt or feel uncomfortable at all. He was a magician with the needle, and they use a pretty cool mouth guard thing so that you don’t swallow any of the stuff they drill off. All together I would say this is a wonderful place to get dental work done.

Moving from Portland will be hard just to lose access to Pitman Family Dentistry… They’re that good!
I’m a new client, and have had a slew of bad dental experiences (like having a dentist let a cavity go so long unnoticed that I had to have a root canal at 22 that bad). I’m miserably afraid of needles. I had my first cavity filled today at Pitman, and Dr. Sarah Pitman was unbelievably gentle! No pain, no fear, it was great; at least as far as getting a filling can be. The facilities are very modern, clean and comforting. The xrays were extremely thorough and consisted of as many shots from different angles as possible to get the full spectrum. The cleaning was great, also thorough and far more gentle than I’m accustomed to. As far as pricing goes, they’re very upfront and try their best to quote you what the prices will be before you have the work done, rather than sticking you with a bill afterwards. Their optimism and honesty makes me so glad to know that I’ve selected a wonderful pair of dentists to care for my teeth!

I absolutely love Dr. Ryan Pitman. I had been going to him for year and if I didn’t move out of Portland I would go to him forever! He is amazing… he does fantastic work and really listens and really does what is right for you. He recommends things that need to be done out in the future and does and conservative look at things. You can absolutely tell he is passionate about what he does and loves doing it.

Extremely thorough. I had a bad experience with another dental group that tried to cut me down to one annual cleaning, so I tried this place out at the recommendation of a pediatric dentist. Very comprehensive evaluation and thorough cleaning.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this were the best dental office in Portland.

I’ve had a dentist in another city for nearly a decade. Even with a move to another city during that time (Seattle) I tried three dentists there there before deciding I was better off flying back to my known and trusted dentist. Now that I am in Portland, Pitman Family Dentistry is the first dentist that I will go to beyond my out of town dentist of a decade. They took me in (thankfully on the same day — appreciate whoever cancelled that day!) for a seriously broken tooth and I’ve been going to them ever since. They’ve been timely, have an incredibly nice staff, AND I get a flower after every procedure — even cleanings! I’m so happy to have a local dentist I trust and actually look forward to going to see.

I’ve known Dr. Ryan Pitman for several years now and of course when I needed a dentist I knew I would receive the best dental care from him. My experience at Pitman Family Dentistry has always been positive, thorough and informative. They are both generous with their time and explanation of procedures. I have never been concerned about experiencing pain or discomfort during appointments, as they are very conscientious of their patients’ comfort level. The Drs. Pitman have invested in a terrific system that shows their clients extreme close-​ups of their teeth and x-​rays. They take a long time, and are very thorough, and at the same time they’re compassionate and kind.
My whole family goes here now, and each of us has had a great experience. They involve you in the decision-​making process. They tell you what you really need done and what can wait. They give you great advice about how to keep your teeth, without any guilt-​inducing.
And their staff is genuinely competent and happy.
And no up-​sell.
Their prices are pretty good, a bargain considering the value of the work done.

I’m so sad to have to leave this place. My insurance has changed, so off to the huge monolithic agency in Portland for everything medical or dental. I’ve been spoiled by the service I received here. It’s the BEST that I’ve ever experienced. I consistently fall asleep during my cleanings… that’s a first. Everyone is personable and relaxed and I will miss all of them.

The last time I went to the dentist, it was poorly lit, and the guy operating on my mouth had this thick Eastern European accent and looked at me like I was a baby when I winced.
The folks at Pitman have put together a well lit, comfortable, happy atmosphere that made me very comfortable. I love the use of modern technology where they showed the progress of their work via digital images of the teeth that they are working on — both xray and regular images.
So far, I’ve had an emergency filling to fix a chipped tooth, and a deep cavity repair. Dr. Pitman was very thorough in his explanation of what he was doing and what my options were — even to the point where I felt like he was over explaining at times. I really appreciated the care that he and his entire staff showed.

It is isn’t often that two girls sit around GUSHING about how much they love their dentist — but that just happened in our office. In hopes of converting another office mate, two loyal-​Pittman dental clients sat around telling stories about why they are so great. I will share a few:
(1) They’re incredibly personal and make you feel at ease in what can be an extremely stressful situation
(2) They are technical rock stars! I won’t go into detail — but you know how Novocain can really (really) hurt? Well they are so gentle with the Novocain shot you don’t even notice it’s happening — I’ve flossed my own teeth and it’s hurt more than getting a Novocaine shot there!
(3) They don’t pressure you into unnecessary procedures. This one is key. They take care of what you NEED taken care of and don’t pressure you into additional services just to profit. This alone says a lot about their character.
Well– that’s it. Switch dentists. Now. I really don’t know how there could be a better dentist in Portland.

Wow! Impressive.
I switched dentists yesterday after my dentist of a decade sold his practice. I went to Pitman Family Dentistry at the recommendation of a friend and it was a great first experience. They checked in advance on my insurance coverage and were mindful to not exceed coverage expenses. Dr. Ryan Pitman was friendly and personable. The hygienists were also friendly and efficient. I though my prior dentist had some whiz-​bang equipment but this place has a machine that displays your x-​rays right in front of you on a monitor as they are taking them which was pretty cool. He also told me not to use Crest Pro-​Health products because they are staining people’s teeth and the company knows it but hasn’t pulled the products off the market (thanks P&G!). Anyway, great people, easy parking and reasonably priced.
