I was a big fan of Pixti. I was disappointed to find out that they are now closed. I had been there several times, but there never seemed to be many people there. If anyone has any more info about the landlord situation, I would like to know more.

CLOSED! The restaurant was very cold. The service was OK but clearly they need more waitstaff. I ordered tea that never came. The food was very small. I understand this restaurant is trying to make a statement about quality, not quantity, but I don’t like leaving a restaurant ready to have another meal. Also, I don’t like that their restaurant doesn’t have a website. How hard is it to start a free Wordpress blog with pictures and a menu? They have a Facebook page but it lacks information. This left me wondering, «Do they think they are too cool for a website?» I just didn’t care for the vibe. I felt like I was in an SNL skit when the server brought over the amuse bouche. I don’t like feeling like the restaurant is doing me a favor by letting me eat there. I used a Groupon for this place, if it was amazing I would have returned and paid full price as I have with other Groupon-found restaurants. But I just don’t think this place was worth a second visit.

I was extremely surprised by my experience last evening at Pitxi. I ordered the beef stew. It was more like a beef roast with mashed potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, and gravy than a «stew», but delightful nonetheless. The server was polite and helpful. The dining room was only half full on a Friday evening. I feel this is going to continue to be the case, due to their N. Portland location, until they build a substantial client base. I’ve driven by their location for the past 7 months and didn’t even realize they were there. Thanks to my wife I’ve found a great place to eat relatively close to home. If they were located in another part of town Pixti would generate that foodie buzz. Their menu is small, but done well. Quality wise they are on par with Belly. Please give them a try. I would very much like to see them succeed.

I’ve been going to Pitxi since they were originally located in Sandy. They are a great restaurant. As many times as I’ve gone, I admin that once in a while I get something that isn’t cooked perfect, but as many times as I’ve gone and as often as they change their menu, it’s bound to happen. I believe the biggest reason it gets mixed reviews are people’s expectations. This is not a place for a quick dinner. It’s a more relaxed eating atmosphere where you go and have a nice long dinner with some friends. This is not a place with tons of options on the menu. The menu always changes so every time you stop in, there’s always something new. This is not a place with standard food you get everywhere else. Pitxi always has unique items on their menu. Whenever I go, I’m always quizzing the server to figure out exactly what is in each dish. What I love about Pitxi is the effort that goes into each dish. They now have an open kitchen so you can watch how much time they spend working on each dish. When it comes, it will look and taste great. On top of the good food, is the uniqueness of the dishes. There is always something new to try and always some new item they are incorporating into their dishes. If you enjoy relaxing dinners and trying new things, Pitxi will not disappoint.

I’ve been to Pitxi four or five times and have found it consistently excellent, the service warm and professional and the owner a delight. I worry about it not catching on quickly enough in our blue collar neighborhood. If you’re looking for a side of beef and a huge pile of mashed potatoes you’ll be disappointed. But if you want food that is imaginative by people who have trained in Europe and really care about treating their customers to something special please try it. You’ll be excited and happy to have a local place of this quality.

Stopped in on a rainy Friday night and was pleasantly surprised. We went early, which perhaps was the reason for the excellent service(it could always be that way — I’m just sayin’…) The cheese plate was very good, but the portions are very small — don’t go looking for a hearty appetizer there. However, I’d say that overall, the portion sizes all worked out very well after all was said and done — anything more than what we ordered would have been too much. Also for an appetizer, we had the cream of pumpkin soup which was good but was a bit too much like cream of mushroom, but it was quite good regardless. I had the duck(grapes, asian pear, crêpe with… fig? I think) which was great! I had to get some more bread to clean up whatever sauce was left, it was that good. My partner had the pork with fennel, corn, and pear with similar results. We finished with the desserts — she the saffron ice cream with olive oil cookie, and I with the nectarine and blueberry sabayon. I really liked mine, and she really liked hers. The price was on the higher end, but not out of line with the service and food that we received. Basically, no complaints at all — I’ll go back if I’m in the neighborhood, or if we’re looking for somewhere special to go.

My friend and I heard great things about this place so we tried it out… on a weekend night at 8 pm, there were only 2 other diners, not a great sign! I ordered the fish, which I believe was sole — when it arrived, it had been so dangerously overcooked that it turned to mush when i tried to pick it up with my fork. It melted in my mouth, not a good thing for fish if you ask me. I sent it back, but with their strict«no substitutions» policy, I had a hard time– I didn’t even want them to substitute something, just leave the sauce off– but they refused. On the plus side the menu was creative and the service was great. But I wouldn’t go back!

We don’t often treat ourselves to dinner out but, when we do, we like to go to places that offer local, sustainable and organic fare. Our favorite restaurant is Scratch in Lake Oswego. So, when we saw a Groupon to Pitxi, we thought it would be our style and that we should check it out. We had 6 o’clock dinner reservations and we were the first table seated in the dining room… I guess they must get more of a later crowd on a Friday. Once seated, Ty order a nice Pinot from McMinnville(where our alma mater is located) and I had the Laurelwood IPA. While they did have a nice wine menu, there were only three beers on the menu — which, IMO, ought to be illegal. We were a little disappointed to see that the menu that we’d looked at online was not the same as the menu that we were given. We then decided to start with the cheese plate mostly because it had received several positive mentions on Unilocal. It came with four cheeses and each one was paired with a little yummy tidbit like pistachios or chocolate. Each bite was thoughtfully prepared and very delicious but I should mention that the portions were on the very skimpy side. For entrees, Ty ordered a seafood stew of sorts(sorry, I can’t remember the exact name) and I ordered the duck. Each type of seafood in Ty’s dish was perfectly cooked to be its most flavorful and tender. I’ve never had duck before so I wasn’t sure what to expect and I was very surprised that it was so rich, moist and tender. It was served with a baked apple, grapes and a delicate crêpe filled with an apple stuffing. The entire combination was perfect, especially if you like entrees that lean toward the sweet side, and left a comforting taste of fall in my mouth. Service the entire evening was outstanding. The timing of the courses was just right and they were quick to put another slice of bread on our bread plate every time it was empty. The portion sizes on the entrees were spot on. Overall, we’d highly recommend Pitxi and, if it weren’t all the way in St. John’s(which we didn’t realize when we bought the Groupon), we’d probably be semi-regulars!

Closed. It’s now a Cha Cha Cha. I tried Pitxi with a friend I used to teach with. We had a Groupon so I figured it was a good way to try but not spend a lot. Meh. Small portions, so-so food, high prices, limitations on what we could have with our Groupon(no small plates), and a waitress who seemed very unsure of herself. I wouldn’t be going back anytime soon.

I wanted to try Pitxi after reading the great reviews here. What a mistake. With just under half the tables filled, the servers were completely overwhelmed. My boyfriend had a cheese plate(accompanied by one sad, dry piece of bread), and, after waiting another 20 minutes or so without even so much as a refilled water glass, we left. We came hungry – perhaps it was our fault. The server was rude as well as inattentive. She sniped at me for being gluten intolerant, of all things! Bad food is sometimes excusable; I might give a restaurant another try after getting an undercooked piece of lamb or underseasoned salad. But bad service leaves me wanting never to come back, and to warn everyone I know. The service here was so bad that I’m taking it a step further and warning people I don’t know. Simply awful.

I would love this restaurant to expand their hours and days. It happened to be happy hour when we went in, so we ordered all our food off the happy hour menu. The regular menu is quite a bit pricier than what we’re used to. The Pitxi cocktail was fabulous. Don’t remember what’s in it, but I believe it involved champagne and fruit syrup. It was a little pink, effervescent, sweet, girly, and yummy. Also got me a touch light-headed, even though I split it with the BF. Sadly, the only other cocktail option was mimosa(not that I don’t like mimosas, I just like variety). French press coffee(large): They bring the whole French press to your table, which is cool. The large is truly large. The BF swooned over this coffee. Partly because he thought the French press looked so nice. Salad of the day was decent, a little too oily(I pretty much think that of all salads though). Bacon and goat cheese pizza was yummy, and came with a side of greens. Tiny bits of bacon, lots of rich, savory melted goat cheese, and thick yummy crust. Lamb pasty: I loved it, the BF didn’t care for it(he does like lamb usually). It had a rich sauce, some vegetables and potatoes, and was wrapped like an empanada. Also came with greens. Cheese plate: We quite enjoyed this. It came with 4 cheeses; one was blue, and I don’t recall what the others were. Each cheese was accompanied by a little something, such as nuts. The pairings seemed pretty perfect to me. The presentation wasn’t great though: it was served on a round plate that was too large and looked bare. Cheese platters should really be served on rustic wood blocks! Service was just dandy. The place has pleasant ambiance inside, but its location isn’t great. They also gave us bite-sized chocolate cake morsels rolled in coconut flakes and speared onto the ends of edible caramel toothpicks. They were a nice treat; unfortunately, we don’t like coconut flakes. The caramel toothpicks were yummy but flimsy, and utterly impractical. Cute presentation, though!

OK, so this we came here looking for a romantic slightly up-market dinner, and came away happy, not not blown away. Let’s start with the website — there really isn’t one. They want you to go to their Facebook page instead, where the menu is hidden under a tab called ‘boxes’. Even then, you get their April menu. I mean really, how hard is it to put your menu up on a webpage? Oh, wait. It’s going to be embedded in a flash movie. Aaargh. Ok, next up the décor. I understand, making a restaurant that looks like it’s in the inside of a warehouse is trendy, or at least, it was a couple of years ago. Exposed pipes and ducts, lots of stainless steel, high ceilings and industrial lighting, very edgy. I get it, it’s just that I don’t really like it. At least, not everywhere. To me it felt too big a space, and too cold. Almost like I was eating in a warehouse. The food was good — some of it was really good(the garlic soup, for example), although it touched mediocre at times(honey flatbread was, well, flat). The mushroom patty was tasty, and the cod was good, although I’m not sure either of them were worth the $ 18 a plate, which brings me to the price. If everything had been great, I wouldn’t have minded, but it wasn’t. So, I don’t know, I liked it well enough, but it seemed like they were not putting out the quality I would have expected at that price point.

OK, so we were driving somewhere else for brunch and my wife happened to find a reference to this place. I am glad she did. Great little place. Interesting take on brunch. Small plates. Short menu. Very attentive staff. Nice and explained the offerings. Coffee press was good. Lost bread dessert was really nice. Would be perfect with raspberries. Just a hint. :-) I am looking forward to trying this for dinner.

Tell me what you think you will get when you see a $ 6 Goat cheese and bacon pizza? Certainly you don’t think you will get a rectangular slice of seems like a mix of pizza dough and foccacia bread. And slightly under cooked bacon and too much goat cheese that turns the flavors towards the bitter end. The server was concerned that I didn’t take more than two bites and comped it without a word which was nice.

Pitxi(prounounced pea-chee) is North Portland’s new kid on the block. They are located in the building that was previously Café Cubano and before then, Encanto. Both seemed to disappear as quickly as they showed up. So we went for dessert, and lucky for us it was happy hour. The atmosphere is a little on the upscale side but not at all pretentious. The waitresses were friendly and eager to answer any questions on the menu. I am a lover of cheese(who isn’t?) and I have had many cheese plates in my life. This cheese plate was probably one of the best, as each cheese was paired with heavenly ingredients such as figs, caramelized onions, cranberries, and glazed walnuts. We also had a chocolate cake that was perfectly creamy in all of the right places. There were other interesting things on the happy hour menu like a $ 5 strawberry air pocket cake and pasty’s. I wanted to try them all but last time I checked I only had one stomach. The wine selection is HUGE and a decent selection of beers on tap. The dinner menu looked fantastic and I kind of wanted to hang out there all night until I got hungry again. Overall I had a wonderful first experience at Pitxi and look forward to going back for brunch and maybe even a full on dinner. Thank you Pitxi, for showing up, serving me cheese and gentrifying my hood!

We went to Pitxi when they first opened at their North Portland location. Every bite was fantastic and the prices were reasonable. My wife and I had the potato bacon stew to start. I’m not a huge fan of veggies, but the way they prepared this made every bite, including the veggies, taste delicious. For our entrée we had the pork with couscous and it did not disappoint. My favorite part was the dessert, the spongecake with tea soaked prunes was AWESOME. Tea-soaked prunes? Who thinks of that? Seriously, really good, though. Great wine selection, too!

After reading the reviews I was excited to try. We dined on a Sunday around 1:30 pm, I would have given five stars but the potato leek soup and egg air pocket were so salty, I mean SALTY. My boyfriend, who loves salt, even commented on how salty the two items were. I was apprehensive to try our main entrée, the petrale sole, which was tasty and not too salty or maybe my palate had already acclimated to the salt level in their dishes. Service was great and I loved getting a sample of something before our ordered items arrived. It’s definitely a place I’ll try again and hope it’s not salty because it’s not good for my high blood pressure.

My friend and I were on our way to see a favorite band at the Twilight Room on N Lombard. We’d Unilocal’d to find a restaurant on the way but said no to the couple we passed by. One destination was Phathaya Thai in St Johns, but, it has zero street appeal so we kept driving towards our destination. The multiple cop cars with flashing lights and folks lined up with flashlights trained on their faces also made us keep driving. I thought there was a good old-fashioned Italian restaurant in St Johns but we couldn’t find it. We were now in the«Where’s a McMenamins» mode. We parked at the Twilight and glanced across where I thought a Cuban restaurant was supposed to be, but apparently now it’s Pitxi(Dining Room and Wine Bar). Pitxi is a diamond in the rough. The service was very attentive, the place is chic yet unpretentious, and the food was amazing. I had the pork(made with beer, broccoli rabe, quinoa) and the Bananas for Chocolate for dessert. The bananas were the best part of that particular dish, but my friend’s Orange ‘cheesecake’ was devine and that’s what I’ll have when I go back. Although our expectations in this Portsmouth(and University Park) neighborhood were extremely low, my review would stand even if we were expecting downtown greatness. My only negative comment was that halfway through our meal an incredible smell came from the open kitchen with a strong vinegar scent that took my breath away for a good 5 minutes. But, hey, things happen from time to time. The entrees on the menu on our night included: Mushroom patty, Sole, Cod, Quail, Pork, and Veal.

What a pleasant surprise to find this restaurant in University Park! It is a bit of a splurge for this part of town. But definitely check it out and see what you think! This place is worlds better than the previous place, in every way. The 5 stars is actually for my husband because he loved his meal! Everything was very tasty and inventive. I tried the carrot, cabbage and mushroom salad, the onion tart, and the honey flatbread. My husband had the lamb pasty, rabbit meatloaf and pork meatloaf. Beware, the«meatloaf» is actually more of a forcemeat or terrine, but I think that’s what my husband loved about it. Don’t expect this to be your mother’s meatloaf with gravy! The wine was delicious. If you’re looking for something less expensive, there are some wines by the glass, and bar menu items that should suffice. We will definitely be back soon for dessert!
