Selection was alright, but the lady at the counter was so mean to me I wouldn’t go back. She was whispering behind my back while I was in the changing room to her co-​worker complaining that I was trying on wigs and clothes and hadn’t bought any yet (I tried 2 wigs…), and I heard her coworker call her mean for something she did to me. I am not sure what that even was!!! I actually left the store with $ 100 worth of stuff, I just had to find some that fit me. And the wigs were poor quality, and I had only tried on 2! why would you complain about 2 wigs and 3 articles of clothing?!? I wasn’t bugging her for help or anything like that. I saw other reviews with similar complaints about the service.

Last Saturday I was walking around with friends and thought to check out this store.
Came in greeted nicely and friendly staff. I skipped the front area (lingerie, shoes, costumes) went straight to the back to the toys section.
They are EXPENSIVE!!! And not much to choose… They have Liberator but not many collections and some of the Liberator on the display were dirty and dusty.
I was looking for a very specific product by Lelo but they don’t carry it…

The service was phenomenal and the staff were very attentive and friendly. There was a wide variety of toys and they have both petite and plus sizes. I didn’t give it 5 stars simply because when I found two items I liked, the store only had 1 size of each currently in stock — and of course it was the wrong size. It seemed they had plenty of large sizes and tiny sizes but didn’t purchase enough of the more medium sizes. The inventory could be manged better and I would have bought more!

Spartacus seems to sell on a spectrum. I spotted racy neon G-​string 2-​pieces more apt for the more risqué and then some funky monokinis for the prudish types. They also have those glamourous shimmery suits I always associated with beauty pageants and body builders…
Oh and they sell shimmery spandex pieces for thr fellas too…
Also, if you’re trying to string together a costume for a party or whatever they have some pretty neat stuff. Glittery eyelashes, neon wigs, fluffy leg warmers, two tone stockings…
So, don’t dismiss Spartacus just cuz you’re not into… uhhh…“leather,” I’m sure you’ll find something.

I only have wonderful things to say about Spartacus. Not only do they have an incredible selection to shop from, they are extremely educated, patient, and helpful in assisting w shopping. Hoku is passionate about her job and helped me weed through a selection of toys to find the perfect, most reliable toy for me. The store is fun for costume shopping, and has larger sizes to meet a variety of needs. Hands down, one of my favorite shops in Portland.

One of my favorite rooms in PDX is behind that beady curtain in the back. Yes, they have everything you need… And you can get it during your lunch break!
They have a good selection of lubes, dildos, vibes, leather gear & other S&M goodies. On my last visit I was pleasantly surprised that they even had some Liberator shapes as well. Prices were a tad higher than the manufacturer website, but hey, they have to make a living… I bought the heart-​shaped one, nonetheless #SupportSmallBusinesses
The staff has always been pleasant and helpful. Shop policies are stated in front of the register, you can’t miss them. If you do. You aren’t paying enough attention.

This review is strictly on customer service, not on the store, in general. Spartacus has a great selection on adult toys, which is why I went there last night to purchase a We Vibe 4.
The woman working the counter came to the adult room where the toys are to see if we needed any help. I knew what I wanted, so I told her. She said they were at the front, and we all headed to the counter. I picked my color and asked to feel it when it was turned on (standard operating procedure with vibrators). She didn’t have one charged, which was a bummer. I think they should make sure to have at least one model of the high-​end vibes charged, to show customers how they work. My friend and I told her we could go shop at Powell’s so the vibe could charge. She said ok, and we left.
We went to Powell’s, and we stayed about a half hour. I actually browsed extra-​long, to give the We Vibe time to get a good charge. When we came back, the cashier just started to ring up the item without letting me check it out. I asked to see it, so she took it out of the box and tried to turn it on. Nothing. She kind of mumbled that it had turned on a while ago. I asked, «Didn’t you leave it on while we were gone?» She said «No». I asked, «Wasn’t that the point of us leaving and then coming back? To let the vibe charge?» She really didn’t say anything. No real apology. I was SO disappointed.
I called the manager to let him know one of his sales people had blown a pretty big sale. He thanked me and that was about it. Anyways, Spartacus is a really nice store, with a lot of choices in adult toys. I just wish the woman who’d helped me last night would have been better at her job.

So there I was… three racks of panties sat before me as I dug through my pocketbook praying that I had enough to purchase just one pair. Luckily, this place is deal central! I was able to buy three pairs of panties (two crotchless) and an extra toy for my man. The service was great and after I explained that I require alotta rubber to get the deal done, the nice young lady behind the counter showed me the secret stash. It took some convincing but eventually I left with enough galvanized rubber to throw 4 new Goodyears on Dale Jr’s racecar. I had to come because I’ve bought a couple Spartacus products before. The store has a surprisingly large section of women’s lingerie. I came for the toys and Spartacus products. The toy selection is pretty vast, Spartacus specializes in small leather and accessories so don’t expect big full leather products. I ended up getting some men’s underwear, they had some unique looking erotic men’s wear. Friendly staff and I could recommend it to anyone.

Can’t believe I’m writing this, but hey if you’re reading it, you’re just as much of a weirdo as I am. I had an absolutely fantastic experience here. It took me 15 minutes to walk around the block before I could muster the courage to come in here, but it was so worth it. This isn’t your walmart of sex shops, the selection is on the smaller side, but curated. There is a spread of mens clothing as well, and all of the dirty stuff is in the back, phew. However, my favorite part of my shopping experience was the staff. I was greeted in a super friendly, welcoming manner, and the gentleman who helped me was patient, funny, attentive, and gave me space when I needed it. He was also impeccably dressed. When he walked me through the lube section, he was more like a perfumer at Jo Malone, going through ingredients, safety, and even taste… except instead of making you smell nice, these little vials help you accomodate large penii.
With the help of another sales associate, I discovered and fell in love with the Maison Close line, which I had never even heard of prior to visiting Spartacus. Gorgeous, French lingerie at affordable prices? Suck it La Perla.
As I got to know the lovely gentleman better, I learned he was married to a woman. Seems like a minor detail, but I have to say, this was more fun and WAY less creepy than when I bought my car, went to Home Depot, bought gum at a convenience store, etc… It was also nice to hear a man’s perspective as well as a couple’s point of view.
And to top it all off, as he was ringing me up, he let me know that Spartacus started off as a leather company, so their in house leather products carry a lifetime guarantee. Discipline your partner with peace of mind, y’all.
I don’t know if the SAs are on commission or not, but my level of service was on par with Nordstrom. Also, they had a wide variety of frisky music playing. Pro.

Although I didn’t buy anything today it was definitely a place to come visit again. In from out of town just needed a lubricant for the night… this place had every type you can imagine. Also had nipple clamps, cock rings, vibrating toys, glass items, things made of rubber for a night and so much more… minagerie of clothing was plentiful and there were plenty of other things to suit your fancy… wigs, tights/​stocking and costumes. Let’s get down to it.
Sparty has a great «something for everyone» kind of thing here. Decent variety. They do have a nice area of leather bondage stuff. Lots of clothing. Decent little collection of platforms and such. The service was good. The folks in Portland talked about this place as if it was kinda strange. I don’t know. I found it on the normal side of a fantasy place really. Then again, I’m not very normal in this regard either so. enjoy!

3.5 stars. I had Spartacus bookmarked for a while now. I think the main reason was I was looking for clothing boutiques that specialized in unusual, funky, punky clothes. Spartacus is more geared towards women who want to dress sexy in naughty adult costumes like skimpy maid uniforms, Pocahontas and so on.
As a gay man I felt like I was out of my element here. There are two kinds of sexy shops out there the heterosexual and homosexual varieties.
But honestly I can’t fault this store on anything. They just did not have what I was looking for. The staff were friendly and very kind. As I said before I was not finding what I was looking for but I did not feel uncomfortable or even like a fish out of water. The place is gay friendly (How could it not be LGBT friendly? It is downtown Portland after all!) but does not have a lot of merchandise for it. Behind a beaded curtain they have a corner of gay adult films. Some of them looked extremely amusing with triple X takes on Iron Man, Roots and the Wizard of Oz I believe.
I enjoyed my visit to Spartacus and would consider going back but more for accessories for when I am planning an outfit for an event more than anything.

I have been going BY there since I lived downtown (a long damn time ago) but only recently went in a purchased something. Hell yeah! And with a punch card I can actually earn something for buying porn and lingerie? Move over Dutch Bros — I got a new card to punch that’s gonna give me a bigger kick than caffeine.

Spartacus is THE classic S&M/Sex toy store in Portland. Oh, and they also sell awesome costume stuff, great drag gear, and of course, porn. They’re open super late night, for all your chains, whips, and leather gear needs. You know that if the gimp gets loose late night, you can probably find a good replacement collar and chain here.
The selection has always been small but diverse, and they carry a ton of stuff that you won’t find elsewhere. The prices are also kind of high. But other than those two downfalls, I still can’t get over the fact that Spartacus has been around for so long.
They carry a total hodge-​podge of stuff, so don’t go in expecting a huge variety of any one particular thing. It’s more like the 7 – 11 of sex stores… they’ll have what you need in a pinch (or what you need TO pinch, if you’re in to that sort of thing).
Good for people into fetish, those looking for costume accessories (glitter? fishnets? masks? etc), and similar.
Oh, and they have (or at least used to) a satellite store in the Jupiter Hotel. Classic.
