Superheroes vs. Supervillains Event @ Things From Another World

What a unique event in a comic book store of all places! Things From Another World may have been the best business to host any elite event I have been to! They boasted a friendly, knowledgable generous staff and I loved the discount we got to enjoy! I can’t wait to stop in again when I am back in the area.
Thanks to Blind Onion too! The pizza was great. It really didn’t get any better than walking around in a cape sipping beer and eating pizza. My kind of party for sure. Oh and there was Drambuie too! Cue villainous laugh!
It was truly an outstanding event thanks to our own Don B. Everyone embraced the theme and looked the part. Too fun! Did I mention I got to wear a cape???

You gotta love an event that lets you bring home so much swag! It was great to see everyone dressed up for a costume party in June! Also, I suck because I keep forgetting to post my event reviews right after the event like everyone else. :P

This event was awesome! Had a great time just hanging out browsing the shelves. The staff was on point… like a few other Unilocalers mentioned I think every staff member asked if we were ok or needed help.
Plus hanging out with other elite members is just like hanging out with friends. Everyone is so nice and easy to start up a conversation with, and with all the costumes a conversation topic wasn’t hard to come by.
The pizza from blind onion was tasty. I love the carne. It had a little bite that I think comes from the sausage. Then of course there was mmmmm… beer. Ninkasi brew is actually one I hadn’t yet enjoyed. I have to say the seasonal they had going on is pretty yummy. It’s light and crisp but still not as light as a pale.
Don this event was tons of fun. Thanks for what you do. Thank you to tfaw staff for the awesome cookies and prize wheel.

Last Wednesday, I look a temporary repose from my never-​ending quest to find puppies to make new coats out of and stopped by Things from Another World for yet another wicked fun Elite Event. What a fun and different location for a party!
All of the TFAW staff were awesome — very chatty and engaging. I don’t know very much about comics, but I learned a bunch there! It inspired me to stop by another TFAW location, downtown Milwaukie, a couple of days later to look more. The 20% discount offered was icing on the cake, after the copious pizza and drinks, too: Ninkasi + A to Z + Vinho Verde. I hadn’t had Blind Onion in years and had forgotten how much I like that crust. Bookmarked to revisit soon. When they busted out the prize wheel and raffles, I got worried they thought we were actually robbing them, with all those masks on.
NICE WORK, all, on the costumes. Why on earth there was not a best costume prize at the costume party, though? I nominate a 6-​way tie. Thanks a million to Things from Another World, The Don, sponsors, and all y’all for a great evening.
I’m off to find some more precious furry darlings. I love the smell of near-​extinction!

I’m not a comic book fan, but this was a fun event! Little did I know this place existed a few blocks from my house. I appreciate Unilocal doing this for the elites. It was fun meeting other Unilocalers, and learning more about the super hero world.

Okay, haiku aside, I really did enjoy my first Elite event. It’s great that Unilocal cares about the people that contribute to it. I used to write reviews on google but it just wasn’t as interactive and engaging. I didn’t really socialize very much but I’ll chalk that up to not really knowing anyone combined with not partaking in the beverages. Nevertheless, the staff was definitely on point and super friendly. Looking forward to meeting more people at the next one (I make)!

Just how does it get any better? How about we add a cool theme (Superheros vs. Supervillains) to our party and have said party at a really sweet venue. Thanks to Things From Another World, it just got exponentially cooler.

This was my first Unilocal Elite event and man was it fun. I didn’t know what to quite expect but the event itself blew me out of the waters. When I showed up with my mom dressed as Mario and Luigi, we were worried that we might be the only ones who took the costume part seriously but then I ran into an assortment of heroes and villains from Dr. Who to self-​invented Bridge-​Woman. Definitely a fun crowd, and super friendly too.
TFAW was very generous as well, offering a 20% discount on all items as well as a raffle/​prize wheel to win free stuff from signed graphic novels to a $ 10 TFAW gift certificate. The staff was very friendly and I believe I was asked if I needed help by every worker in the store.
The pizza from Blind Onion was phenomenal too. I loved the veggie pizzas (one with artichoke, olives, tomatoes, and peppers while another had broccoli, tomatoes, onions, and more). If only I could have eaten more — the Hawaiian and bacon-​chicken-​onion were calling my name too.

When I found out Unilocal was hosting a party at one of my favorite comic book shops in the city, wonder powers activated! Things From Another World has been known for throwing amazing parties and the Unilocal exclusive party was no exception. Egor and I were warmly greeted by the kick ass staff and they were excited we were attending the party. We glanced around the book aisle just because of habit while the food and drinks were being prepped. Soon after the rest of the costumed guests arrived, the super battle commenced.
Drambui was present and I got to learn a little history about the company. I had their liquor in the past at sponsored events with specialty themed cocktails. To take a small shot, I appreciated the tones and flavors Drambui shows. Blind Onion delivered and they delivered well. Stack and stacks of pizza were available and no one left hungry when the party ended. I ate in silence as I waved at the guests walking by the entrance. A to Z winery always satisfies with their bubbly to wash down the pizza goodness. The lines for drinks appeared to be long but the staff worked quick and the line vanished soon after.
Since quite a few of my friends at the party knew I’m a comic book geek, I guided them the way and recommended some of my favorite books. Myself I looked and researched what to buy since we were all given a 20% discount in the entire store! In the end i found the Triforce gold and bought Zelda in its hardcover glory!!!
Thanks again Don and TFAW staff for hosting and throwing another amazing party. I was glad to see the guests experience what I experience when entering the comic book realm. The prize wheel was also a bonus and I even scored a Buffy comic written by Joss Whedon!!!

To me, I found this event to be very comfortable and fun!
I enjoyed the fact I was able to sample 3 of Blind Onion’s pizzas, and I was very satisfied with each of them: Props to them on the BBQ chicken. Why?
As much as I embrace diversity when ordering from places, if a pizza joint is serving a type of BBQ chicken, I will usually go with that, to compare. My husband does the same, but with French Dips. Nonetheless, Blind Onion’s pizza of this variety was a great balance between bold, balanced, and gooey but not overly greasy. I have found the BBQ sauce can really kick the rest of the topping’s asses, just essentially serving up a slice of baked BBQ sauce, which, is icky.
BLIND ONION: YOUR CRUST IS LIKE A SEMI SWEET ANGEL DANCING ON A CLOUD IN MY MOUTH! Moist, crunchy, buttery, dense, carby (Yea, I am proud of it, damnit!) and just great. This, coming from a huge thin-​crust enthusiast.
A to Z wines served up some great white wines. I had the semi dry and the sparkling, both were crisp, with notes of apples and apricot (From what I detected, before the pizza).
The venue: Attentive staff, very happy to have us, and enough space to spread out, but not large enough so that guests could ignore one another. Could have used some more tables, but, very very small wish. No tables just means more mingling!
I took full advantage of the 20 percent off deal… my checking account will hate me for a while but, come on– the Star Wars Munchkin, they had it! SOLD.
They even had a wheel o prizes, and a few raffle ticket give-​aways. The costumes were creative, fun, and everyone was having a great time talking about what we were, or weren’t wearing, haha!
Props to Don as always for rocking some of his wicked event planning skills and having the keen ability to know the PDX elites well enough to know this would be a must-​have event, it was a great one.

Things From Another World was a great venue for perusing geeky wares and socializing with fellow Elites. The place has an impressive selection of comic books, figurines, and board games, making for great conversation starters and general ogling. The owner (who is also an Elite) offered us 20% off the entire store, which was a fantastic deal. I ended up getting a couple of Adventure Time glasses for my friends. Mathematical!
Don didn’t let us down with the geeky cuisine: the pizza and cookies from Blind Onion was absolutely delicious, and shots of Drambuie were quite tasty! Top it off with reliable Ninkasi brews and A to Z Wines, and you have a hot mess of a mini-​Comicon!
I’m not one for dressing up, but everyone else compensated with some impressive outfits! Wonder Woman, Dr. Horrible, Green Lantern, and of course Super Don, our awesome CM. Thanks for the fun event!

I’m used to comic book stores that are dim, smells like feet, and boxes of comic books… TFAW is bright, comic books shelved, and figurines proudly displayed! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and made yummy cookies!!!

What an awesome event! Thanks to Don B., the amazing TFAW staff, and the Unilocal crew for another flawless par-​tay. I was one of the very few who weren’t dressed up, and felt that shameful «why didn’t I think of that?» pang all night long. Kudos to all the creativity that went into many of the costumes!
Blind Onion hit it out of the park with the multiple stacks and varieties of pizza. I had the veggie and loved that they had tender artichoke hearts and piles of other fresh produce on each slice. The crust was pretty fierce too. The cookies were a lovely touch, and were just what the doctor (who) ordered after a few A to Z pinots. The drink line was a little intimidating when we first showed up, but that got handled in no time and we didn’t have to wait in line ever again. I also tried the Ninkasi seasonal and it was delicious!
I haven’t been to too many events yet, but I meet new folks every time. Can’t wait to go to the next event and mingle, nosh, dress up so as to avoid feeling like a jerk, and have a fab time. Thanks a million!

Only a Unilocal event could bring superheroes & supervillains together in peace for a couple hours. Adding Drambuie, Ninkasi Brewing, & A to Z Wine to drink, boxes upon boxes of Blind Onion Pizza & a platter of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies to eat, & raffle tickets & a prize wheel made it even better to be amongst good & evil in one room. The sparkling wine, consistently delicious BOP, & the cookies were so good!

Wow. I’m not much of a comic book fiend but beer + comics + pizza and I want to turn into a 1000% comic nerd with knowledge of everything.
First off, this is a legit comic book store. Large, spread out with organization and a ton of fun stuff. Trust me, I was pissed when someone bought that Iron Man lego set from under me *shakes fist*
The staff is friendly and clearly very up to date on the comics they stock in a manner that would impressive in any job but GEEZE these people love what they do. I respect that a whole ton.
They served up the never disappointing Ninkasi Total Domination IPA and Spring Reign (thank you Unilocal for introducing me to Ninkasi in the first place) with a smile. Despite the fact I lived in NePo I never tried Blind Onion before — whoa– can I get a whut whut for that BBQ chicken pizza? That is worth seconds and fifths.
Back to the store. You could find anything and everything as a comic book aficionado or just a purveyor of pretty pictures. I found myself buying 2 volumes of «Owly» — a book for kids because the pictures were just so adorable. That display was full when we walked in, ransacked at the end of the night.
I also loved the costumes by everyone! Just another clue into why the Unilocal Elite community is rock solid. Thank you Things From Another World for a fun space and excellent hosting & Don B for your ever present (sans beard) amazing choices of venues for your Elites! Never ever have I been let down for these fun events and that credit goes to our CM!
Ok, back to reading Owly.

This is the first time I’ve ever seen Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Spider Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Thor, Elle Driver, Harley Quinn, Mario & Luigi, and a sadistic evil toothfairy all at one party! It was like a mini ComiCon but minus the outrageous fees and lines (and definitely with better food and drinks :-)
Thanks to Blind Onion Pizza (I had seriously forgot how great their pie is), Drambuie (very smooth whiskey with just the right amount of spices and luckily not overly licoriced), TFAW for hosting, showing off their new store, and giving the mad 20% discount, and Don et al. for planning the event and baking the fresh cookies! :-)

Geektacular! What a fun event! And everyone went all out with costumes, too! So much awesomeness in one rad place. After hanging out in this place I now realize how cool this store is. This comic book store has MUCH more than just comic books in it. Toys, games, books, Tshirts… all with that geeky flair every comic book nerd is looking for! We were treated so well, too! 20% all purchases during the event!!! What a deal! Plus we got to spin a wheel for prizes AND I was even lucky enough to win one of the Skyline Burger gift certificates in the raffle! In addition to all of that that we were treated to wine, beer, pizza, cookies and even a Drambuie tasting! Was super excited to be selected to attend. I have NEVER been to a comic shop. The Big Bang Theory is top fave show of mine, which made the event interesting to me.
Lots of Elites were dressed as characters. At least I think they were playing dress up. LOL.
There was Hoards of tasty pizza from the Blind Onion. I totally dug this stuff.
Tried my first Ninkasi ale. Meh! Not a beer girl. The Drambuie was mmmm good. Sadly the girl handing out the beer couldn’t tell me the history on the name Ninkasi. I’ll have to look it up. I like a good story.
This place was totally RAD. If I was a geek I would be Geekin’ it up here all the time. NIce, clean, tidy, friendly. Lots of employees on hand just biting at the chance to help you out in all things comic. I don’t think I saw chic employee. Bahahahaha.
Sweet time.

It’s been about 20 years since I bought anything superheroes, or anything out of this world!
But a new generation is growing in my family, and I couldn’t believe my grand daughter is now INTO stuff like that. Nephews & nieces, are drawing aliens that are all new to me. Heck, I used to be glued in front of the TV, playing non-​stop games, the heck with sleeping & housework, no one budged me out of my seat, playing games even as late as morning — when hubby was just getting out of bed to go to work. I used to collect comic books, all of my life, and I buy them every week, using my allowance!
Walking inside the store today, I was just full of AHHHS & OHHHHS, so many things I haven’t even heard or seen before. I could stay there all day long, I felt like a kid all over again. I love this place!
They have books for $ 2, key chains, games, apparel, you name it, they got it!
As for the food, I usually eat 2 slices but I had 3 today, because they were provided by the Blind Onion Pizza, and they’re pizza was always good, specially the CRUST! Pizza taste better with beer, and they didn’t have light beer, but oh well, water is always good!
