I’ve been to the store before however clearly they’ve invested in many more resin figures. Not your pvc or plastic statues which they have as well but the high end resin statuary. Nice layout and rather stocked for a comic book shop these days. Very pleasant gentleman behind the counter too boot.

TFAW is a really awesome comic shop. It is easy to walk in and buy tons of comics and figures. The staff are eager and willing to assist with any questions. They also have an excellent website with tons of resources! I recommend this store to anyone who is passionate about comics! :)

Started reading comics again about 2 years ago and TFAW was my first stop. The employees were friendly and eager to answer questions or make recommendations. This is not a stereotypical comic shop, they are equally accommodating to people brand new to the hobby as they are to long time comic fans. Their subscription box discounts are the best i have seen in the area, and the manager, Josh, has gone out of his way to solve any problem I’ve ever had (that being said, problems are rare). There are other places to buy comics in town, but i go to TFAW, because their staff is knowledgeable and helpful, and they go out of their way to make their customers happy. If you want comics, graphic novels, toys, shirts, or any number of other items, this is the place to go. You will not be sorry. 5 stars!

not much of a traditional comic book shop, I think of these kind of shops as newspaper stands. They have the current up to date issues on the shelves but beyond that… its bare. Action figures that are dime a dozen were WAY OVER PRICED!
One positive is the staff was helpful.

Shout out to all the employees for never «fake nerd girl“ing me and always giving fantastic recommendations when I need em. This place is probably the coolest thing downtown Milwaukie has to offer.

What makes or breaks a comic shop is the staff — you’ll either have staff that ignores you (or worse, talks down to you) or aren’t knowledgeable about the product they are selling (which yes, is true of some comic shops in the area). That’s not the case at Portland TFAW — both Jeff and Josh are super knowledgeable, extremely friendly and will go out of their way to make sure you leave satisfied and with what you are looking for. I’m sure Ethan is great too, but he’s never working when I go in!
I pop in every Wednesday morning and my box is ready to go, and any relevant figures or comics that aren’t on my pull list that they think I’d be interested in are there for me to check out. They have a huge selection of comics, figures (including import figures and high-​end collectibles like Hot Toys and Sideshow) and board /​card games — it’s really a one stop shop.
The best part is that it’s super easy to get a hold of the store thanks to an email account they check actively. Want to add a title to your pull list, or grab an extra copy of an action figure? Just shoot them an email and they will take care of the rest.
I don’t feel like just a customer when I walk in, I’m greeted like an old friend and most of my trip is spent just talking shop with Jeff or Josh. You can’t get that kind of service at any other shop in the area.
If there is one tiny, tiny downside, it’s that the parking lot is really small so if it’s a busy day, you may not find parking. You can always park at the Fred Meyer that is right behind them and walk over, though (and sometimes that’s more preferable because it’s easier to get in and out of that parking lot).

Pretty good gamer/​comic book shop. It’s not a huge store, but they seem to have a little of everything. The two dudes working the counter were friendly and helpful.

Huge selection and knowledgeable staff. They have tons of collectible items and very high quality action figures you can’t find elsewhere. Tons of comic books that are very well organized making them easy to find

I really cannot say enough good things about TFAW.
This is the kid’s absolute favorite place and I… kinda love it too. Something for everyone. That is not an exaggeration. My parents, the wee ones, me…
The boy is 10, when you are 10, everyone treats you like you’re 10. You feel like everyone knows more than you and you are never taken seriously.
But every single time we come here, the staff picks right up on his interests and fully engages him.
Do you know what it means to a kid for older kids and adults to treat you like a peer? Everything. It means everything.
There is always some kind of event happening and it’s awesome for him to see the group game’s social dynamic (i.e. no screens or monitors or tablets or phones but actual conversation!)
He has some trouble reading but he will read comic books and that is why I let him read whatever he wants, I have no problem having the staff help him decide while I look for Christmas presents for the nieces and nephews.
Mad props.

Things From Another World is an amazing store. It is a visual delight to visit since their move to their new location and now they have a small parking lot, which is fantastic. They tend to stock only the newer books, so I usually buy comics published a few years ago through other stores or online. They do offer book buy-​back for store credit, but they are very particular about what they buy. Any damage to the corners of the cover or the spine will not be accepted. These used books are sold online; everything on their shelves is in (apparent) new and pristine conditions. This is great for the collector, but means you will also pay full cover price for your books. The real value of this store, though, is the staff. I have never been treated so kindly by comic book shop staff than here. They genuinely want to help and have done extensive research when I come to them with my comic questions. They will continue to be my go-​to for recent comic releases.

I am NOT, repeat NOT, a comic book fan myself, but I love this store and I’ll tell you why.
The staff here are really knowledgeable and friendly. I often go in having no idea what I’m looking for, but I always leave with stuff the kids love. The staff have always helped me find things that my girls will love to read, and never have any attitude that you might find at other places, if you walk in without knowing anything about the genres.
There is a huge selection of comics, graphic novels, action figures, games and toys in all price ranges. It’s all organized and easy to find. This is a great store.
I go every December to find gifts for the girls and my nephew, who’s quite into the darker zombie stuff :) I stop by at least two or three times at other times of year to pick up gifts, or find a new game for the family.

I’m not a comic book nerd. Don’t claim to know anything about them. But I live with one and have a little one of my own.
Dropped in to kill time in the neighborhood last weekend. The girl working was SUPER helpful and knowledgeable. She let me know that the sale they were having the next week would include certain things and I might want to plan my purchases accordingly.
Store is spacious, clean, well organized. Pretty limited supply of non-​comic books compared to some places I’ve been, but overall a nice mix.

Really cool place. I had no reason for visiting other than the guy wanted to pick up some comics and I happen to be with him. It’s a large store with lots of action figures, comics, books and games.
Definitely a great place if you love comics!
The employee there must have felt my pain, sitting in a chair waiting for my guy to pick a comic, so he humored me and kept me sane. :). Cool place, great gift ideas here for the nerd in your life.

This update has been long overdue ever since Things from Another World (TFAW) relocated to a bigger and better location. I stop by here a few times a month whether it be a special event or just to see what latest comics are in stock. There is a small parking lot next available to park but parking by Fred Meyers is also a safe bet.
The new location has more room to walk around, especially when signings take place. So many big events have taken place since then such as pre-​funking for big time comic book conventions. It can be so big they will sometimes throw a BBQ outside the parking lot to accommodate the large crowds. Chris Hardwick (Singled Out, Attack of the Show!, Etc) even made an appearance to which many fans were excited to see.
The staff has always been great in recommending what to read. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed and browsing has become easier with the larger space. I even converted friends who haven’t really been into comics, but have been impressed of how big the industry has grown. The signing parties have been a blast with friends mingling and enjoying the complimentary food and beer (with ID naturally). A few times we have seen a famous writer, Craig Thompson, pop up to talk to the fans from time to time. The first time we were somewhat shy to approach him but after a few sightings, he is another person who loves the industry.
The expansion of independent books from companies other than Marvel/​DC/​Darkhorse have drawn my interest. The past few visits I have bought books that may stray from the super hero norm. One of my best friends would be proud of me for expanding my horizons. Come for the books, stay for the endless imagination!

We walk to this store from our house and it is always a fun stop. If you are looking for a gift for a sci-​fi, dungeons and dragons, super hero, lego or comic fan, this is a great store.

I came here to get my badge for the comicon. Oh my goodness is this place great. they have a great selection of comics. I must come back!

This place has very friendly service, out the way attentive staff, which I really appreciate. I am not a super regular to the comic stores any more, but I expect the normal sub-​par service I have seen on movies, previously encountered, and the cliché «Meh, I’m too busy reading what happens to Starfire to help YOU» attitude.
This place? Above my expectations.
Good variety of games, comics, figures, and everything else my nerdy heart desires.
We chatted with at least 3 staff members tonight who educated us individually on some of our varied interest product lines, and I am glad I talked with them.

First time I ever dealt with TFAW was during an event at the Hollywood Theater regarding a SERENITY panel and signing afterward. The crowds were insane, so I skipped going in.
After that, I stopped in on a lark and was floored. I hadn’t been in a comic shop in years and, after I had picked my jaw up from the floor, I promptly allowed my inner-​geek to jump for joy.
Wall-​to-​wall comics, statues, figurines, tabletop games — and a very comfy couch to ‘test drive’ whatever comics you wanted. And if you don’t know what you want, I can guarantee they’ll be more than glad to help you find something (if you can get past your fears of dealing with the Simpson’s ‘Comic Book Guy, that is. Trust me. He’s not on staff here!)
My only gripe? Prices are a tad high. But it’s not been a cheap hobby for years!
It’s like an addiction, I swear. I look forward to stopping in again.

They hosted a great Free Comic Book Day event here a few weeks ago, and at one time allowed us to utilize their space for a 24-​Hour-​Film-​Fest shooting location (for free!). The guys there are super friendly, and they had some awesome graphic novels for 50% off at the Stumptown Comic Fest.
The space itself is a little too cramped for me. The lighting is kinda dim and the ceiling light fixtures are industrial and not entirely welcoming.
As for a comic book shop — it is definitely out of my way and probably not the first place I would go to. For toys, figurines and geek memorabilia — yes!
Seeing the figurines in their display case — live and in person really does make you want to buy them.
So — if I was looking for comic book stuff (outside of comic books) — I would come here. Or if they were hosting a cool event, I would stop in too.
And purchase something. It’s great for them to host these events and open up comic books to the community, but they gotta keep the lights on somehow. Even if it’s just a few issues or a graphic novel — it’s definitely appreciated.
