Love the atmosphere and that they serve beer while you’re waiting! Very family friendly too, and good quality haircuts.

I brought my son in for a haircut. There was a minimal wait and plenty of stuff (toys/​books) for the kids to do while we waited. Megan cut his hair and she did a really fantastic job. He had a cute little shaggy mop and needed a much shorter cut. I was really happy with the finished product. My favorite part was how friendly everyone was — no hipster attitude.

Hard to beat the prices, and all the women who’ve cut my hair have been really nice. I’m a woman myself, and was pleased to find they’re happy to do simple lady’s haircuts here. You can go elsewhere in the neighborhood for a woman’s haircut, and be told they are not taking on any new clients at this time and it would be a minimum of $ 60 anyway. Or you can go here, walk in and get a perfectly serviceable haircut for $ 20, tip included. Easy math!

I kinda love this place… great location, GREAT employees and I always get a great cut. It’s usually fast in/​out — although I normally go in the middle of a weekday. It’s odd — so many places in Portland (I’m new here) don’t take appointments, it’s first-​come-​first-​served. In San Diego, most places will take walk-​ins (if space available) but 99% of the time you need an appointment. Can San Diegans be better planners… or just SOOO busy that the need appointments??? Wait… squirrel!
Anyway, love the place… casual, fast, great haircut for not a lot of dough.

Best cut I’ve ever had. Bridgette spent a ton of time cutting my hair and beard. I have thick curly hair and it can be hard to cut and take lots of time. I never felt hurried, or uncomfortable — she made me feel very relaxed and did an amazing job!!! I will return.

If your like me, one of the more difficult quests in a man’s life is finding someone who actually knows how to cut hair –either on top of your head, or on your face. This can be a journey with more strange twists and turns than Odysseus ever dreamed of in Homer’s epic, The Odyssey. At one point in my life I thought I’d found the perfect barber, and I went to her for over 20 years. However, when her price hit $ 50, and she still expected a tip for her work (even though it was a one person business) I was forced to sail on and begin a new quest. For quite a while things got real ugly. I went to one place and got haircuts that made me look like Moe from The Three Stooges. I went to another place, asked for a trim, and the «stylist» declared, «I’m an artist with hair!» and did things to my hair and beard I can’t repeat here. I think small children cried when I walked out of that place. And then I walked into The Barbers on Tacoma in Sellwood. This is the one place where if you ask Megan to trim your hair, she’ll do it without any trouble. If you ask Bridgette to trim your beard she’ll do wonderfully detailed work, taking her time as if you’re the most important person in the world. And then there is Morgan who is wonderful with both hair and beard trimming. This place is friendly, unpretentious, fun, and professional. The only problem I have is one of choice. Megan? Morgan? Bridgette? And I have yet to discover how good the rest of the staff can be. Ah, to have such problems!

I dropped in for a walk-​in haircut after work around 5:15pm on a weekday. There was no one to greet me at the door, but the sign-​in process was pretty clear. What wasn’t that clear was that my wait time would be about 45 minutes with only a few people ahead of me in line.
I was very happy with the haircut and the woman who cut my hair, but not sure if I was happy enough to justify the wait. At least at the place around the corner I get a free beer included with my wait time, which has never been even half as long as at the Barbers.
I might give it another shot and would consider giving the benefit of the doubt that it was an unusual wait time, but some other reviewers have had even longer waits than me!
I might give it another shot, but not sure if it was worth throwing away nearly an hour just sitting and waiting to get a quick men’s haircut after work.

I get the place is locally owned. I love the fact that it gives to charity.
I dont like waiting an hour and a half when its not that crowded. Two people ahead of me and the other barbers are not cutting hair. Then the customers getting their hair cut. Well on was bald. The other already had extremely short hair just hard to envision it taking over an hour for either customer. Its supposed to be a Barber shop people. Now they are cutting back on the service also. Sorry but of you start out serving drinks and having snacks you need to keep doing that. First the snacks gone. Now the drinks and the popcorn was stale. Looks like cutbacks are cutting back on the quality of the experience I am being charged over $ 20 bucks for. Has the price gone down? Nope. Has the wait gone up? Yes. Has the service gone down. Yes.

Went to The Barbers after a HORRIBLE experience with another neighborhood hair salon, (that severs Miller lite) The staff at The Barbers were extremely professional and experienced. My buddy and myself both got cuts from Bridgette on Saturday. Excellent trim, head massage, shoulders and hot neck shave. I will be shouting her and the shop out to everyone I come in contact with in Sellwood. Continue with the great service and the great choices in staffing.

I don’t see what people’s problems are. I only go if it is «M» who is cutting my hair. I have tried many other places… and they are okay, this place is just ideal for me. I want a great haircut that isn’t too expensive. This is it.

Just like the other location I went to in Hillsboro, this is like a Fantastic Sams kind of place, but hypermasculinized and with flat screen tvs. If you don’t have complicated hair, like mine I guess, you can walk out with a haircut comparable to what you’d get a the spendier places downtown. There will be none of the artistry, none of the finesse, and you might even have your eyes clenched in horror at what is being done, only to find out that the end result is the same. There are optional extras like a shampoo and a neck shave. The haircut ends with an awkward passing over of a massage stick down on your shoulders and upper back, which I’d be inclined to decline, as it’s not relaxing and pretty weird. It gets hella busy on the weekends, but if you’re in Sellwood and in desperate need of a haircut, this is the place. There’s a parking lot, too. I will still be going to my spendy place, I think, but this is a good emergency option, until I learn how to cut my own hair.

I was just here for the first time. I’ve been going to bishops, but I was with a friend and he offered to buy my a cut, so I was like sure. I will not be coming back: she cut my hair for 5 minutes, didn’t strike up any conversation, and didn’t seem to care about the job she was doing. After she was done I was baffled, I was thinking that’s it? After leaving I was thinking I should have asked «is there anyone who wants to cut here?» I’m not one to ever leave a bad review literally I never have, but after that I think I should. I’m sure it’s not always that bad, but they won’t be receiving my business or have referrals from me. Too bad.

Wow! What a misogynistic business. As a woman I have never been so ostracized while trying to get a haircut. I live very near the Sellwood location and have had my haircut there several times in the past. No complaints, no problems. Today I attempted to get a haircut and was told by the woman working, «Sorry, we don’t have the tools to cut women’s hair.» I guess this barbershop no longer has combs and scissors? Anyways, I took my business elsewhere. So, unless you are male and enjoy getting your haircut by misogynists take your money down the street to Bishops. No judgement and free beer!

After years of mediocre haircuts, I think I found my spot.

Been using The Barbers for a while now and glad to see they have a location in Sellwood. I’m a big fan of the Works package: haircut, shampoo, neck shave and massage for $ 20. I find the experience much better than SportClips and I still get to watch sports.

as it turns out this place is celebrating its 2^nd anniversary.
their regular prices are reasonable as well between $ 16 – 20 depending on if you want to be shampooed and get your scalp massaged by a pretty lady.
i had a good time. no, it isn’t another Portland hair cut place that offers free beer, but they are nice and give good cuts.

Great location in a cozy neighborhood, fair prices, friendly staff. I was made to feel comfortable as a walk in immediately. Here from out of town on business and desperately needing a haircut I found this place after a Unilocal search and I’m glad I did!
Clean shop, abundant parking, no wait on a Monday morning. I was immediately seated with my hair expertly cut by Megan. She was charming and worked well within my specifications. The décor is sports oriented and flat screen TVs dominated. A solid haircut finished off with a warn lather straight edge neck shave.
Highly recommend.

I moved away from Sellwood for a few months, I come back, and now the place is filled with barbershops. With 4 places I could get a haircut just minutes (walking!) away, I have plenty of options. So why The Barbers? They actually aren’t the closest — they were the cheapest.
When it comes to haircuts, I’m not picky. Cut it even, cut it straight, and generally don’t make it look like a lawnmower attacked me and I’ll be good. As such, I’m not in to paying $ 30-​$ 40 or more for a haircut.
Walking in to The Barbers, the décor makes it clear it’s a «Men Only» barbershop. TVs line the wall, set to ESPN or the latest game, etc. All in all it’s a pretty cool atmosphere. More importantly, the staff is friendly and skilled. For $ 16 I got a really nice haircut. If I wanted to spring for a few more bucks I could have received a hot shave and a massage, but I was feeling thrifty, so I passed.
In the end, The Barbers is a great place to get a good, solid men’s haircut. Ladies, you’ll have to choose from one of the other many options in the neighborhood. Sorry.
