The Shoebox-Pediatric Dentistry

I cannot begin to tell you how sad I am about the experience we had with Dr. Hsu. My daughter was incredibly nervous about going to the dentist, because she has had negative experiences at the dentist in the past. I searched for a pediatric dentist thinking the experience would be better for her, but I was so wrong. Now, I worry about future appointments at other dentists. Please save your child the grief and do not go here. I should have checked the reviews, because our experience is very similar to some of the other posts. The dental receptionist and dental hygienist were amazing. The dentist, Dr Hsu, however was awful! My daughter was clearly nervous, was shaking, and was beginning to cry. He felt it necessary to resolve that situation by yelling at her, which made it way worse! Not only did he yell at her, he yelled at the younger boy in the chair next to her waiting for his appointment. The boy next to my daughter was getting upset, because the dentist was yelling at my daughter so the dentist attempted to shame him by telling him he’s not a baby. When he spoke to us, he basically told us that we were bad parents for not being able to figure out how to get her to stop sucking on her fingers even though we have tried everything imaginable. He implied that we should use force. When I questioned him about what exactly does he mean by ‘force’, he got nervous and back-​pedaled without answering the question.
Overall, the experience was horrible. The office was nice and inviting, the receptionist was nice, the dental hygienist was nice, but the dentist was atrocious. We will not be returning to this dentist.

I took my 3 year old daughter here for her first dentist appointment. The office was cute and very welcoming. There is a nice play area for kids, which helped my daughter relax and take her mind off the appointment. When they called us back I thought it was strange there were so many chairs all lined up like a salon, with not a lot of privacy. The dental technician was very friendly and said they can try to do a cleaning today, but a lot of kids her age won’t sit through it. When the dentist came in he was very direct and said I had to hold her down and he would check her teeth. This immediately freaked her out, but I thought it would be quick and he could just check. She started crying and screaming and the dentist was awful. He started yelling back at my 3 YEAR OLD! He told her she needed to stop screaming NOW! He took his sweet time checking her teeth and continued to talk very rudely to her. He also rubbed fluoride all over her teeth, which I never approved.
I blame myself for not stopping the appointment earlier, but I didn’t think it would be that bad. My daughter is now completely traumatized by the dentist, and I don’t blame her. I knew it was bad when his own assistance looked like she was going to cry and told me how sorry she was as she walked me out.
Please DO NOT take your small children to this clinic. They may be better with older kids, but the dentist was incredibly insensitive and rude!

I made my daughters appointment WELL over a month ago. When I did so the lady taking my information gave me the impression they were going to send the paper work in the mail. When I did not receive it I just assumed we would get there in plenty of time to fill out the forms.
The day before our appointment I mentioned to my husband that they had not called me to confirm our appointment and he stated that they had not called him either. I called to confirm appointment as they did not do any reminder calls. RED FLAG NUMBER ONE
We arrive 15 minutes early and fill out the forms. There were a couple other families there waiting. The assistant comes out and calls «Samantha». The assistant was standing next to a lady (that assumed she did not pronounce her name correctly) and the lady said «no Cecilia». The assistant said «oh OK, come on back» and off they went. We looked over and a mother that was trying to gather her things quickly because her daughter was SAMANTHA! She sat back down with a confused look on her face with out saying anything to anyone. The lady behind the desk asked ‘Samantha’s’ mom something but she used MY daughters name! RED FLAG RED FLAG RED FLAG YOU CAN’T EVEN KEEP YOUR PATIENTS NAMES IN ORDER. THERE WERE ONLY A HANDFUL OF PEOPLE IN THERE!
TIME IS TICKING BY
Nearly 30 minutes after our appointment was scheduled for we HAD to leave because we had other obligations and could not wait around any longer. They did not care. I look at my phone when we get in the car and they had CALLED WHILE I WAS IN THE WAITING ROOM. Being the polite customer I am. I put my phone on silent and had no idea they had called. My guess we would have been sitting there all day because clearly they had no idea we were even there!
It is a good thing we left… who knows they may have mixed her chart with someone else and she would have gotten teeth pulled! THIS is how accidents like that happen.
SO DISAPPOINTED!!! I am so angry as we changed our daughters dental plan specifically for THIS office. THANKS FOR NOTHING SHOEBOX OF BEAVERTON!

They got a nice office with bright and open feelings. Dental chairs actually are not separated into rooms but are lined up in a big room like barber chairs. :)
My complaint. My insurance doesn’t have a good coverage for this place.
