This is based on Happy Hour.
The drink I ordered was simple yet excellent. The menu on first glance looks like basic food, but everything is well prepared. The hush puppies were the best I’ve had in Portland so far. I am a picky hush puppy eater, coming from the south. these were the first that made me smile.

We live a block away from this restaurant and finally checked it out today. We were VERY pleasantly surprised. It’s a nice low-​key kind of place with a great simple, refined menu and a nice selection of drinks (both cocktails and beers on tap). The waiter we had (I believe his name was Kevin) was excellent — friendly, easy to chat with and very good at keeping us content.
The space is open, airy and bright, clean and tastefully decorated.
The Fried Chicken Biscuit Sandwich was SO GOOD and the homemade pickles were refreshing and tasty with a little kick of jalapeño. The biscuit was amazing ;)
Overall we were both very pleased with the experience. Since Bridgeport closed this will likely become our new neighborhood comfort food spot!

Delightful New Spot for Happy Hour. I was complaining the whole time driving to meet friends there since I was coming from the Clackamas area and had to drive down Hawthorne dodging bicyclers and walkers who don’t always follow traffic flows… then I arrived and was amazed. The mussels melted in my mouth — I don’t think I have had better ones anywhere. Also a chef created a gaspaucho with mango that had a flavor medley that was out of this world. It is spacious and you don’t feel cramped. On street parking was great, and if you felt like doing a little shopping after drinking there is Kruegers farmers market nextdoor and a fresh fish shop.
I will be back! The only downside for me is that the music was a bit loud, or maybe they just don’t have very good sound barriers inside. Seemed out of place for a restaurant that clearly has chefs, not cooks.

This place is delicious! Great cocktails. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for amazing fried chicken! I can’t wait to try the burger and the fried chicken sandwich, oh and everything else on the menu that’s not vegan ;) the caramel cheesecake was AWESOME!

I live in the neighborhood and have been to Township and Range 5 or 6 times and have really enjoyed it every time. I was a geography major, so the nifty map of the neighborhood when you walk in the door, and the various framed topo maps make it a fun place to look around.
The servers (and owner?) are welcoming and really nice, and I’ve never felt ignored nor rushed. The drinks are amazing. At happy hour, there’s a whiskey lemonade that is truly one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. I also like their margaritas, and really enjoyed the white sangria one evening.
The food is mostly wonderful. The wedge salad with bacon pieces is an interesting take on an iceberg salad; it was a perfect crunchy wedge of lettuce with tasty blue cheese dressing and (real) bacon crumbled on top. The baby kale salad is also really good. The thin fries are deliciously almost-​crunchy and salty and aren’t fried with fish or seafood, which means I can eat them!
My date usually gets the chicken sandwich. Wow. It’s crunchy with a slightly spicy crust., or maybe it’s the dressing. It comes dressed with very thinly sliced coleslaw and some crunchy pickles. I could eat this sandwich every single day.
I thought the hush puppies and fried chicken were just a tiny bit overcooked but I realize this is a personal preference. I also wish the white bean dip had more garlic but not everyone likes garlic as much as I do.
I plan to be a regular customer, and hope others will, too. It’s nothing like Screen Door — much mellower, more reasonable portions, and very welcoming.

OK so it was fine. Was it amazing? no. The food was good but as the 2 star explanation reads, «Meh, I’ve experienced better.»
No hard feelings guys. The burger was good. The brisket was fine. Just a bit underwhelmed.

Went here with friends for happy hour on Saturday. Everything we ordered was delicious!
My friends had the trout with braised greens & drunken beans. They said the trout was great, the greens were ok & the drunken beans (some kind of tequila sauce) were good but a little strong for their taste.
My boyfriend had the veggie burger with house salad & white bean dip with grilled bread. The veggie burger is heavy on the beets so it’s quite pink. But he said it wasn’t overwhelmed with beet taste & he liked it. The white bean dip & bread was delicious!
I had the chicken burger (off the happy hour menu). It was perfectly cooked, had a tasty aioli and coleslaw topping and little crunchy house made pickles. Delicious again!!! I also had the house salad and it was fresh, dark leafies with carrots and cucumbers, very good. Mac n cheese was ok. I also had the Honey Badger drink, tequila with grapefruit juice & a honey rim. Soooooo good!
The service was nice, everyone was attentive, the food was fast.
I loved my meal & we can’t wait to go back! We’re already dreaming of what we want to try next!

Met a girlfriend here for dinner — had heard great things and was very curious.
The space is beautiful. Simple tables in a very open room with high ceilings and lots of light. You don’t feel crowded by the other tables, but they use the space very well.
I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken with cornmeal crust. It comes with TWO sides, so of course one of them had to be mac n cheese — the other was a salad to maintain some degree of health. HA! My friend order the turkey burger with onion rings.
The chicken was astoundingly tremendous. A VERY healthy portion (I took some of it home), and the crust was ridiculous, as in so good. Tender, juicy meat. Someone in the kitchen knows how to do it! The mac n cheese was excellent, too, so cheesy and hearty. The salad was very fresh and crisp.
My friend liked her turkey burger a lot. I tasted an onion ring — not bad, but by the time I tasted it two things: 1. I was really full. 2. It was on the colder side (no one’s fault, it’s just my timing.).
Our waitress was so nice and helpful when it came time to bag up my leftovers. Friendly and professional.
I would totally go back here. Not only is the food delicious, but the prices are great. My entrée was $ 15, and I had more than enough leftovers for lunch the next day.

Yes. Yes. Yes.
Fried chicken with mac and cheese and onion rings. A whisky drink (longwell) and and a salted caramel cheesecake that magically separates all of the flavors and punches you with the saltiness at the end (yum).
Portions are GENEROUS. Enough for two in one entrée, easily. The staff were super nice, quick, and attentive. I’m sad that I will only get here once before the move to Cali.

Frankly, in a city chock full of noisy, overcrowded happy hours, I was delighted to find a place that was spacious, quiet and had indoor AND outdoor seating as summer grows closer! Also, I love yummy mixed drinks, and T&R has them in spades (I had the Hoodview and it was deeeee-​licious). The only thing that keeps me from giving five stars is that I wasn’t crazy about the veggie burger, and for vegetarians, I’m always looking out for great veggie burgers. But! The onion rings were amazing, as was the kale salad (I’m going strictly off the happy hour menu here). We splurged and got the salted caramel cheesecake for dessert, and it was decadent.
I am 40. I like a place that doesn’t blast music, and that makes THREE of their own sodas (yum). I like $ 3 – 5 happy hour food items. I like tall ceilings. I like well-​made mixed drinks. I like this place, and I shall return.

The one review I remember reading was save room for dessert. I am not a huge dessert fan, but I planned on at least trying something. We started with drinks, great beer list and cocktail list. Then I ordered the beet salad, which came with lots of beets and a great vinaigrette. I had studied the menu before I even went, so I knew I was getting the Pork Shank. That this has an impressive presentation. It was super tender and set atop some great creamy polenta. YUM!!! We also ordered the roast beef aka prime rib. Huge portion, huge and it comes with 2 sides of your choice. We didn’t save room for dessert, but we ordered it anyways. We chose the salted caramel cheesecake. It was so, so good! I can’t wait to go back and try the brookie now.
Service was stellar and the atmosphere was pretty cool too.

This was our 2^nd visit. The service is fine. The food is pretty bland. The veggie burger is just a bunch of beet chunks that fall out all over the plate. The turkey burger was dry and flavorless.
The portions are fairly large and the onion rings were pretty good.
It seems like they put all of their efforts into the interior design and had very little left over for the food.
Kind of a cute looking place but in the end pretty disappointing.

Three words of advise — Start with DESSERT! More on that later but you definitely want to make sure you save room for dessert.
If this place was in my neighborhood, I could sell all my kitchen gadets because I would never cook again!
My boyfriend said he would take me anywhere I wanted to go for my birthday. I wanted to try something new and chose Township and Range. I could not have made a better choice!
We arrived at about 7:30 and the place was about about 70% full. There were a couple of seats at the bar so we bellied up. The interior is modern yet cozy. Again, if it was in my neighborhood, all the staff would know me by name within a week or two. I would be the «Norm!» of T&R.
Being that it was a day of celebration, I had hoped for a bottle of bubbly. Sadly, they didn’t have the bottle on the menu and offered a split but that just doesn’t have the same effect so I opted for a bottle of white.
I would describe their menu as comfort food with a twist. I love that you can choose the sides you want with each entrée! Prices are very reasonable with appetizers in the $ 6 – 9 range and entrees and sandwiches in the $ 8.50−15 range. Sides are all $ 4 – 5.
I was having a tough time deciding between the steelhead and the buttermilk fried chicken so I asked our bartender. Without batting an eye he recommended the chicken. Damn, it was good! Crispy, crunchy, golden, deliciously moist chicken and heaps of it. I needed some greens so ordered the daily greens to counteract the mac and cheese. Greens were broccoli raab and cooked crisp and tender. I can barely type about the mac and cheese due to the drool on my keyboard as I think about it. Smokey, cheesy and oh, so good!
My boyfriend had the pork shank and he said it was the best he had ever had outside of Germany.
And then… dessert. Salted Caramel Cheesecake. This is a contender for the best dessert in Portland. EVER! I can’t even give it justice by describing it so just go eat it. Even if you don’t have a meal there, go just for this.
The wine menu needs work. It is great for the budget minded with glass prices starting at $ 6 and bottles starting at just $ 15 but when I go out to eat, I like to have more than a handful of choices and I enjoy great wines. I spoke with the friendly owner and he said he will probably be making some adjustments. This place is so good that I could not even make any deductions on my rating for their limited wine list.
This will be my go to restaurant when I can’t decide where to eat, even though I have to drive across town to get there!

The décor in this newly-​opened restaurant is beautiful. While we waited for a table (only about 15 minutes on a Friday evening), we ordered cocktails from a list of creative and delicious-​sounding choices. They were expertly mixed and really good.
The menu is equally creative without being unapproachable. We started out with the white bean spread, which came with slices of bread from their neighbor Grand Central. It was perfect. For dinner, I tried the hamburger with onion rings (no extra charge!), and I will go out on a limb and say they are the best onion rings in town. Such a seemingly simple thing, but no one seems to be able to get it right. Hubby tried the fried chicken, which was not only moist and perfectly cooked, it was an incredible bargain. He got so much chicken he couldn’t finish it all because it also came with two generous sides of his choice (he got the lentils, which rivaled the daal I’ve had in many Indian restaurants, and the braised greens). When you see a new place opening up in your neighborhood, you always cross your fingers and hope for the best. Township and Range qualifies.

My family came to T&R a few weeks ago and loved it.
First, our «entourage» includes and 10 year old and a 9 month old, so whenever we are welcomed into a place (as opposed to shunned and stuffed into a back corner) I am happy. The wait staff was very friendly and talked to our kids just as they were as happy to have them as the adults.
The drinks arrived quickly (also a plus when you travel with two kids!) and were cool and refreshing. I love that we can take home growlers of our favorite drafts as well.
I had the veggie pot pie — it was great comfort food! A warm, soft crust tops a plate of perfectly cooked veggies swimming in a creamy, rich stew. I, for one, welcomed the non-​traditional plate presentation.
They say to save room for dessert and that is advice to be heeded for sure. The brownie/​cookie combo is brilliant and satisfying. I have got to figured out how to make it at home (or maybe I just have to get out more often).
We will be back for sure. I highly recommend it to all my friends — even worth the drive for West-​siders.

We’ve been waiting for this place to open and were really excited to eat here.
Not bad for their first week being open, however, the fresh paint is not subtle and deserves a couple of cracked windows and blowing fans.
The menu was standard southern inspired, Portland fare.
The vegetable pot pie was nothing to write home about. A. it wasnt a «pot pie», it was stew in a bowl with some cornbread on top. B. the vegetables weren’t cooked all the way, and the cornbread topping was dry and flavorless.
The turkey burger was fine, not very flavorful but got the job done. Saw the fried chicken and thought it looked a thousand times more appetizing.
The staff was great, really sweet and attentive.
Looking forward to improvements and menu changes as they progress as a restaurant. And the patio will be great when it opens up in the summer.

I am always excited when a new joint opens in town, and so naturally I had to check this place out. I’ll start of with the atmosphere. Being a new establishment, the inside is clean, inviting and classy.
The menu has something for everyone and I think they have a very diverse range of dishes. After coming here twice, I have noticed they have changed their friend chicken recipe — for the better. One of the best dishes I’ve ever had!
The cocktail menu is exceptional, and like the food menu is unique, simple and refreshing. After dinner and drinks, that’s when I got to thinking — the sweets must be awesome. You absolutely have to have desert if you’re eating here! My recommendation is the salted caramel cheesecake.

My husband and I stumbled upon this after reading a write-​up of some sort on the interwebz. We went here the Friday after their Wednesday opening. We left really impressed.
Listen, the first month of a restaurant opening might give you hit or misses. Everyone is obviously working out all the kinks. Hell, the bartender said that they were all just trying to find their groove but having lots of fun. We sat at the bar because I love sitting at the bar. I like being able to chat with the bartender as s/​he makes drinks, see what they’re doing, what the other drinks are, etc. It was an especially good idea their opening week!
We ordered the Roast Pork Sandwich (this was fantastic and simple — we loved it) and split 3 sides ($ 11 for 3). The sides were: Lentils (unbelievable), Mac and Cheese (it was ok, mostly just mac… couldn’t really taste any cheese), Braised Greens (these had no taste besides the greens. They needed a little salt and pepper). We also ordered the Salted Caramel Cheesecake and that shit was UNREAL. My husband is not a sweets guy and he just about lost his shit. One of the best desserts we’ve had. To drink, we had the Repose and Prudentia — both excellent. We also noticed that they had all Oregon beers on tap… and there were even growlers to purchase if you particularly liked somethin’!
The best part of the night was when the owner/​chef (wasn’t entirely clear if he was both or just one) went to every single table and asked what they thought. Not just the «so, do you like it?» kinda stuff — he genuinely asked what they could do better. So, we told him what we thought. He thanked us and said he would look into it and fix it. Certainly we are not food journalists or critics, but we’re his neighborhood customers… the people who will keep coming back to drive business, and I think he took that very, very seriously. It was also my husband’s birthday weekend and he wished him a HBD twice, so that was very nice!
We loved, loved, loved the atmosphere and are excited for the summer when he can open up the huge doors and let the air in!
Great start, Township & Range. We can’t wait to come back.

Great food! Great atmosphere!

This is a great neighborhood spot. I think that’s what they’re going for (at least that’s what Eater implied) and I think they have solidly achieved that goal. The food is reasonably priced: the most expensive entrees are $ 15 and they are HEALTHY portions. And by «healthy,» I mean actually seriously unhealthy, but in a good way.
Township and Range has followed the Screen Door with their menu. The menu is split into soups and salads, apps, entrees, sandwiches (incl. burgers) and SIDES. The sides are typical comfort food — mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, braised greens, sweet potato au gratin, etc. The entrees (fried chicken, sauteed trout, braised pork shank, veggie pot pie, and a beef dish) each come with one designated side, and then you can choose a second. It’s a good model — very satisfying, so why mess with it?!?
Our party of two shared the cod fritters which were tasty — fried garlicky fishy goodness. I ordered the sauteed Steelhead with braised greens and then picked the mashed potatoes + gravy for my optional side. Delish all around. Trout was perfectly cooked, mashies were oh-​so satisfying, and braised greens were packed with flavor. My husb ordered the pork sandwich with onion rings and he was a happy man.
It’s a large space that has a designated outdoor eating area once the weather gets continuously nice. The décor is pleasant and welcoming, and the waitstaff was already comfortable. Everything ran really smoothly. I think this will be a great addition to the neighborhood.
