Description

Specialties

Physical Therapy helping clients learn how to recover function, relieve pain and develop the ability to move with comfort and confidence for a lifetime. Based on a «teach a person how to fish philosophy» it is both highly personalized and highly educational. Clients range from professional dancers to the elderly, to auto accident sufferers and those with lifelong disabilities. Success comes from helping people learn & develop their own functional competence. This means that even if an injury is «un-fixable», a person can significantly improve their function & quality of life. Becoming more expert in one’s own movement ability also proves to have a strong preventative benefit. Interestingly, this approach is so effective in improving movement ability that it draws athletes, musicians, actors & martial artists seeking performance enhancement. Accepting Medicare, Auto & most Health Insurances.

Additional services include: massage, manual therapies, facilitated stretches & exercise.

History

Established in 2004.

Wholeness in Motion was created by Israel Sostrin, MSPT, CMT GCFP. He witnessed that almost without exception, clients lacked the ability to use the body as a well-coordinated whole during daily life. In other words, they were working harder not smarter with every move. Surprisingly, this applied to fit yogis and exercise enthusiasts as much as to those who live a sedentary lifestyle. These pervasive faulty movement habits were obstacles to full recovery from acute injuries (like back strains, whiplash, plantar fascitis, knee pain, etc.), and exacerbated limitations from chronic conditions (like fibromyalgia, arthritis and chronic pain). So he saw the need for a Portland physical therapy practice that helped people develop «wholeness in motion», a golden key for healing and sustaining an active life. He knew he was on to something special when he repeatedly witnessed the joy of discovery when people developed practical skills and personal insights.

Hi, My name is Israel Sostrin and I am a licensed physical therapist and a certified Feldenkrais Practitioner®. My interest in understanding «the big picture of human movement» has led to my unique approach to physical therapy. Drawing on 15 years of experience, I utilize a gentle and insightful form of movement re-education to assist people in need of injury rehabilitation, pain relief and recovery of movement ability. This treatment approach is distinctive, educational and highly personalized. I enjoy seeing how the process of learning to move with greater ease, self-confidence and balance often leads to insights to personal growth and well-being. People of all ages come to me for individual sessions, weekly classes and extended workshops.
