WTF Bikes

Stopped by on our Bike Shopping Tour of PDX. We hit 11 shops and these Gentlemen were great. Had a bike that was on the top of my list. I took it on a test ride and it was fast and fun. We settled on another bike but these Guys know their stuff and this shop should be looked at for a serious buyer.

I can’t recommend these guys highly enough! As a newbie to the cycling world, they’ve helped me figure out which bike to get, and how to maintain it well. I love that they answer questions and help me learn without being patronizing. Fair prices, with high-​quality, down-​to-​earth customer service. What a great shop! I’ll be coming to them with all my future cycling needs.

Awesome!!! A little gem of a store. I’m very new to road bikes and the area. Matt was very patient and took the time to make sure the bike I purchased was right for me. In addition, he provided me with a road bike 101 class. Although their store is small, their customer service and ability to make you feel at home is BIG.
I did have the opportunity to go to larger bike stores in the Portland area. All seemed very cash oriented. At WTF Bikes you felt like you were hanging out with friends who happened to build and fix sweet bikes…:)
BTW, I love my little Fuji…

WTF Bikes is the shop I always take my bike to when I need anything done. Tom does a great job and stands by his work. If you need a good shop this is the place!

1. These guys are awesome. I know nothing about bikes and they weren’t a bunch of a-​holes about it (which, truth be told, I was kind of expecting). I asked a bunch of questions and they were super friendly and helpful. Now I felt like the a-​hole for assuming as such. Womp womp…
2. As noted in #1, since I’m no bike connoisseur I didn’t want to shell out a ton of cash on a fancy little number. I just wanted a bike to get me around town and let me be one with the people. Found the perfect one. A nice little used bike they fixed up: Fuji frame, new Schwinn seat, and a bunch of other jargon I know nothing about. But regardless, it rides like a beaut.
3. I’m a tiny gal. However, the bike noted in #2 above does not look like a child’s bike. And for that I thank you, WTF Bikes. Just like Baby Bear’s porridge, this bike was just right.
4. Did I mention how nice these guys are? Oh, I did? Well… I CAN’T SAY IT ENOUGH.

I dropped my bike off for a tune-​up. It was ready the next day for a price much less than I expected. The bike feels brand new again. Would highly recommend WTF to others.

Don’t go in here unless you’re expecting to pay them to do all the work for you. The manager Matt was extremely rude when I went in for a tube and put his homie over a paying customer. Worst service ever. I’ll be buying all my parts online from now on.

Fantastic service and very friendly. These guys had a ton of great advice and didn’t try to up sell at all. In fact they sent us across town for a cheaper kid helmet when we called in, even though they sell them! That totally won my husband over, but even better, they really know what they are doing and gave my road bike a big tune up. This will be our go-​to bike shop!

The mechanics are excellent, straightforward, honest, fast working experts who won’t steal your money, up-​sell you or try to impress you with how cool they are. What more could you want? I’ve had the following experiences at WTF: I’ve purchased, sold to and had tune-​up/​fixes from this great business.

Went to Oregon to drop off my daughter and visited this shop looking for a good sturdy bike for her. Matt was amazingly friendly and was able to pair her up with a perfect custom bike. Loved going there, just wish I lived in the sea to visit again!!!

Matt was so helpful and sweet, I went in not really knowing what I wanted and he set me up with an amazing bike that I know I can’t get anywhere else. The fact that they customize their bikes in house and then sell them is so amazing, they really care about the bikes and Matt was so excited to sell me one, it was amazing how much pride he took in his work and how genuinely excited he was that I was going to get to take it home. Also, all the bikes were so reasonably priced and all the parts you could need were available as well, plus he installed all the add ons and showed me how to transport my lock efficiently. They really seem to go above and beyond and it’s great to see their success considering how much they really love their work.

I went to this place based on other Unilocaler reviews. I’m new to town and the overwhelming number of bike shops in my hood got me seeking some Unilocal guidance– unfortunately, I didn’t have quite the same experience as is raved about here. The guys were pretty nice, my bike runs great, but I left feeling oversold and overcharged. I am a pretty new rider and not super savvy about bike stuff so went along with what was suggested, wanting to trust these guys. But after talking with other cyclists, I realized that I paid too much for things I didn’t need. Yes, I was given the choice to do certain services but the way it was presented was that it was super expensive parts or janky old parts that would break soon anyway– there was no in between. I know the shop needs to make money, but a shop I trust is going to treat me like a human and not just a consumer.

Excellent customer service, which is important to me. I recommend WTF because if how well we were treated and the genuine approach we experienced. I will definitely be doing all future repairs and upgrades here!

Fixed a flat on our jogging stroller. In and out under 5 minutes for under $ 10.

This place is a great neighborhood bike service shop. I’ve only met Mat (t) and not Tom (but I’ve heard Tom is top notch too) and he gave me (and my Panasonic road bike) not only friendly and personable service, but helpful advice without any pretension. I’m not an expert in bike mechanics, I’m mostly a commuter cyclist because it’s free transport and healthy. Many shops — mostly places that base their sales on parts and extras instead of service — have made me feel like I should probably feel bad about my lack of knowledge. This place made me feel the opposite! I highly recommend them and am excited to keep getting my bike serviced there.

Tom is the man. Great guy and someone you can trust. This is the place to go for bicycle repairs. Low cost and fast, reliable service. Plus some great used bikes to buy.

I picked WTF because of the good reviews. Everyone said Tom’s work is reliable, honest, fair and quick. That is 100% true in my experience!
I took my Peugeot here about a week ago. I called ahead to see if I needed an appointment, since some of the other shops I had looked at required them. Tom said ‘nope, bring it in!’ so I did. He took a look at my bike, and then wrote up some pricing for what he wanted to do to bring it up to speed. We decided on a kind of in-​depth tune up to get it commuter ready. He quoted me a total price and told me it would be ready by Friday, mayyybe Thursday.
My bike was finished by Wednesday afternoon, AND it came in under the quoted price. The work was really great. Tom went over all the things he had done with my bike, and he took such great care. He even matched the colors for my brake line covers and pads to the colors on my bike. So awesome. The best part is Tom assured me he stands by his work, so if anything seems weird I can take it back to him, and I would feel totally comfortable doing that.
That dude rocks and his shop rocks.

LOVE. THESE. GUYS. Every dealing that I’ve had with Matt and Tom has been top shelf – full of genuinely kind and approachable attitudes and a serious appreciation for customer service.
I bought my first bike, my lil work horse at this shop, owner was very cool, really knowledgeable and straight up. The service/​labor prices are SUPER reasonable and you get the sense that these guys will truly finesse your bike back to life.
The shop is small but mighty, and with every service, you leave with the confidence that Matt and Tom will stand behind their work. To me, that is the best part, and its another reason that I’m happy to tell anyone who will listen to take their bike baby to WTF.

My bike was in desperate need of some TLC. It had been sitting in my hall closet for year and a half when I finally decided it was time to make biking part of my commute. There are about 1,000 bike shops in Portland and since I know next to nothing about what I need I wanted to make sure I found a shop that wouldn’t take advantage of my naïve self.
WTF was one of the only shops on Unilocal that had more 5 star reviews than anything else. And several people had talked about how great they were treated, how quickly the work was done, and that the price was less than expected. I was sold.
I swung by the shop about an hour before they closed on Tuesday and explained my situation (needed a tune-​up, probably new break pads, but besides that I had no idea) and Tom gave me an estimate on costs and told me it would be done in about 2 days. Less than 24 hours later I get a call telling me it was all ready.
I picked up my bike and it looked brand new. I couldn’t believe it. Tom was also really helpful in explaining how to use the stem shifters (see, clueless) and he told me that my frame had a small crack and gave me advice on what to look out for so I know when to bring it back in.
Even though it’s a bit of a trek down Powell from where I live, I’ll still bring my bike back to WTF. The cost was cheaper than I imagined, the work was speedy, and my bike is riding like it’s brand new.

I brought in a janky old Miyata that needed a new rear wheel, cassette and dérailleur. Mechanic Tom took about 2 minutes looking over the bike/​shuffling through drawers of parts to figure out the cheapest possible way to tackle it, gave me a cheap estimate, and told me he expected to have the repair completed in ~48 hours. The next day, I got an enthusiastic voicemail saying that the repair was complete, and the bike exceeded his expectations, rides great, looks great etc. etc.
The repair was crazy quick, cheap and the bike rides great. Really couldn’t imagine better service, I’ll definitely be back for all my future repairs.

This dude ain’t kidding. WTF: Well-​tuned. Fast. Not to mention reasonable!
I’m now a WTF loyalist, in spite of the fact that I don’t live anywhere near his shop… When I first brought my entirely deconstructed bike to him a couple years ago, fully expecting it to take several days, I was shocked to hear a message on my voicemail from the owner bright and early the next morning: «Your bike is ready.» WTF indeed! Great business. Highly recommended.
