I have seen Dr. Tran in this office for the last 10 years. He along with his staff are amazing. All of them are knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Dr. Tran makes my dental visits great with his compassion, efficiency, and gentle hands. I feel like I learn something more about my oral healthcare each time I visit his office. The dental office is up-​to-​date and very clean. Thank you Dr. Tran and staff for everything. Please keep up the great work and care.

Thank you Dr. Tran. No pain or problems with my extractions and he goes above and beyond the call of duty to make sure you understand what you should do with your teeth and mouth so you do not have future health risks. I found Dr. Tran to be very professional and truly caring about your oral health.

Dr Tran and his staff are the best dental office out there. The office is very warm and clean. I’m very scared of the dentist but Dr Tran made me feel comfortable and he explained everything very detailed. He is very gentle and fast. He knows exactly what patient need and I would definitely keep coming and highly recommend A+ family dentistry. I can say that I am very pleased with the service.

Our family of five has been going to Dr. Tran for 4 years and can’t be more grateful for his gentle care. I have been to dentists who discounted my gum issues, so I’m especially grateful to Dr. Train whose diligent detection has improved not only my oral health but my overall health as well. My eldest son had a different dentist here in Poway, and has had 4 root canals. My other two children have not had a SINGLE issue because of good care and preventative measures. Worth every penny in the long run! As a mother and patient, I couldn’t be more pleased.

If you value your dental insurance and your teeth go somewhere else. This guy according to two dentists I have recently been too said he did a lot of unnecessary work and drained my insurance DRY. I told him who I went to and they just shook their heads.
And no Justene, just like all the others that have posted similar complaints, I am not a fake. I think you work with one.

I don’t know how this place is still here. Maybe they changed how they run business, but these people scammed my parents into getting deep cleanings which are very expensive on their first visits. Then I went for my first visit and they told me I needed one too because I had GUM DISEASE at age 18. Spent another 30 minutes there trying to leave after they kept trying to reduce the price of the surgery so I could get a second opinion. THIS IS NOT A PLUG FOR ANOTHER DENTIST. But I went elsewhere close by and yup, no periodontal disease. I recommend ANY OTHER DENTIST. Still get weekly emails from this place for IPADS and whatever nonsense they’re trying to push. This business makes me want to vomit.

Had a fantastic experience here at A+ dental. Nice people, they explained everything i needed to know about my teeth and the procedures I was going to have I will come back again anytime I need dental work. I would recommend this place to everyone. Thanks guys!

I’ve only been a patient at this clinic for a couple years but I can’t express enough the gratitude I have for the care and service I’ve received here at A+ Family Dentistry in Poway. From ease of making appointments, great customer service, encounters with friendly, professional, knowledgable staff, to the best my teeth and mouth have felt in years, you can’t go wrong with allowing this place to handle your dental care needs. Thank you Dr Tran, Ricci, Esther F, Renae, and Esther F !

I love coming here because the staff always makes me feel comfortable and with respect– it’s like I’m not even at the dentist! The place is super clean and the technology is up-​to-​date. My teeth have improved dramatically since I have been coming here and I always feel like a million bucks after a cleaning. I would definitely recommend this dentist for everyone!

It took two telephone calls to get an appointment. Then they wouldn’t communicate how much time would be needed. Once I was there they told me it would take two hours with X-​rays which I did not have time to do. Then Dr. Tran went on and on about the law and how he has to follow the law and it had nothing to do with it. He was condescending and self righteous. I was trying to communicate that I just didn’t have the time and then I gave up and asked for a refund.
He then writes me a letter to seek dentistry elsewhere. There are a lot of dentists and I suggest that simple caring communication would be nice.

Five Stars again for the honesty the Staff at this dental office
Major Messed up on my end. I have always had dual dental coverage. And not remember !!! Yet I told front desk /​financial manager that I only 1 coverage. Last visit, had to paid an extra $ 500 out of pockets for the damages that my older dentists failed to spot & treated!!!
Days later… I stumbled upon health website and realized i been having 2 coverages.
Esther & The doctors worked with the insurance and got my co pay refunded.
Thank you so much for being so honest & provides great services.

I have been here twice and have had it. I recently filed a complaint and changed my dental office so I don’t have to come to this office anymore.
The first time, I came for a regular cleaning. The dentist, Roger Tran, gave me his pitch about how I needed all this stuff. Granted, maybe I did need that 3 cm long mouthguard but I have been to 4 different dentists this past year due to military physicals I had to get done, and none of them ever told me my teeth were showing signs of wear. By the way, the guard he ‘recommended’ was $ 450.
I told him I just wanted a regular cleaning. The next thing I know, he came back with a BILL for a CLEANING (my insurance covers cleanings 100%). He told me I had ‘deep pockets’ and needed ‘special medication’ and ‘antimicrobial gel’ for the cleaning — all of which not covered. I told him I don’t need any of that and he said, «We can’t clean your teeth if you don’t get those treatments». I was appalled… but nonetheless, like a fool, took their advice. By the way, the ‘antimicrobial gel’ is just LIDOCAINE GEL ($ 40 charged) — the stuff used to numb your gums prior to numbing so the shots won’t hurt.
The second time I went I had a severe toothache, and being that this was the dental practice I was assigned to at the time, I had no other choice. Again, they did their regular check-​up and again, told me that my toothache was a result of me grinding my teeth. Oh please, if my toothache was caused teeth grinding, I would have had this toothache YEARS ago. Again, Roger Tran the Dentist, recommended that I get his 3-​cm long, $ 450 mouthguard. I told him I don’t want it. He then recommends that I get a «tooth adjustment». My gut instincts were telling me that my pain wasn’t caused by me grinding my teeth so I asked him if I needed a root canal… and boy… whether he wanted or not, his expression on his face changed as he put on his «ever so caring» look on his face and said, «possibly — let me do a couple more tests». And sure enough, a minute later he said, «we should do a root canal and a crown». I asked him how much. He comes back with a bill for $ 1450.
I told him I looked at my insurance coverage and there is no way that is accurate and he told me, «your insurance doesn’t cover crowns». I told him it did, and he began telling me how the one that is «covered» is not a good crown. I told him I want the «not-​as-​good» crown and he tells me, «I don’t believe in that kind of dentistry because it’s not a good crown.»
First of all, Roger Tran the Dentist, it’s not up to YOU to decide what I NEED. Your job, AS AN ORAL HEALTHCARE PROVIDER, is to give your opinions and options and my job, AS YOUR CUSTOMER, is to decide what I want — not what YOU bully me into getting.
By the way, this is where it gets EVEN MORE interesting.
So I told him, «I will think about it, but in the meantime can you prescribe me some antibiotics to alleviate the pain from the infection?». His response —
«That is borderline malpractice and I won’t do it because it is only masking the problem.»
Ok, fair enough, maybe you were right… but you weren’t…because the endodontist I went to several days later prescribed me antibiotics right away because I had an infection and you CAN’T NUMB A TOOTH THAT HAS AN INFECTION.
Anyways, I went home, called my insurance agent and she told me the root canal AND crown should be covered ($ 250 total).
I call back the next day, and a front office person picked up.
Here is how the conversation went:
Me: «Hello, I was there yesterday and received a quote about my root canal and crown. I was told my root canal was covered but not the crown. Can you tell me what type of crown it is that you guys do?»
Her: «We do porcelain crowns.»
Me: «Is that a full porcelain or a porcelain fused-​to-​metal crown?»
Her: «It is a full porcelain crown»
Me: «I just talked to my insurance agent and she told me that a full porcelain crown is covered (including the PFM) and it should be $ 100, not $ 1350.
Her: «Oh, the extra cost is the lab fee.» — L.O.L. extra cost = $ 1250???
Me: «Your dentist, Roger Tran, told me yesterday that you guys have the machine there so there IS NO LAB FEE»
— For those that don’t know, lab fees go towards shipping your impressions to an actual lab to have them do the crown and send it back if the dentist doesn’t have a crown machine — aka cad/​cam.
Her: «Oh, the fee is for the materials»
I don’t know what LaLa land you live in, but if you think you can convince anyone that the material fee to make a crown costs $ 1250, you must be stupid.
As someone who will be starting dental school very soon, and as someone who has shadowed many dentists for over the past 2 years, this one has to take the cake in terms of the most money-​driven dentist. Not all dentists are like this — and this is as worse as they get. I may not know much about dentistry (yet), but I have seen enough things to know that I was getting ripped off up the @$$. Beware.

I really wanted a local dentist and when a flyer came in the mail I took courage and went to check them out. Very glad I did! Kudos to front desk staff, dental assistants, and amazing dentist for treating me with respect and caring. Historically, time, cost, and nervousness have been significant barriers for me for to commit to a comprehensive treatment plan; however, with great patience and caring shown by this professional group, those obstacles were overcome. So happy that I am finally on my way to greater dental health.
December 2015 — Dr. Tran and his staff are very patient with me. I am demanding and quirky and they graciously expand my understanding the needed procedures, timelines, and financial aspects with courtesy and professionalism with some humor added in.

All the negative reviews in regarding the practice of A+ Family Dentistry are correct. I just wish I had read them before I scheduled for a teeth cleaning, which never happened.
I went in for a teeth cleaning that never happened. They took x-​rays and pictures, and then spent an hour telling me how bad my teeth were and my teeth need deep cleaning. They told me my teeth would need the surgeon within a year if I do not do the laser deep cleaning. Not only that, I need to have 5 visits to complete the deep cleaning. I had deep cleaning on my teeth before and only took one visit.
I asked for an estimate and the total cost would be over $ 5,000. I was there in the office for two hours and my teeth were NEVER CLEANED. They just want to scam money from me and my insurance. I told them I would need 2^nd opinion, right away he offered me 10% discount if I pay now. I told him no but I would make another appoitment with him (I just wanted to get out of there), then he asked me if I can put down a deposit. WTF!!!
I went to another dentistry in the area the next week and got my teeth clean without any issues. My teeth do not need deep cleaning and they are fine.
You can tell by the empty parking lot that he has no patients. With so many negative feedback about his practice I think we should report him to the board.

Be aware of this office, their goals are to max out your benefit and out of pocket payment.
I never come back after thousands of dollars that I spent on the first office visit. The dentist provided preventive cares that are nice to have but not the correct solution; my teeth are sensitive and painful when exposing to heat and cold after the silver fillings replaced with white fillings.
A word of advice, don’t ever let them do laser teeth cleaning. I have no bleeding or red gum diseases. For more than 30 years I did not loss any teeth. Drinking green tea has caused my teeth stained enough for deep cleansing but no need for laser.

RUN don’t Walk AWAY from this joint. i don’t have words. what a scam these people are. here is what i honestly think happened. i think they got in way over their heads in «top of the line technology» and are trying to bilk their clientele to cover themselves. you must hear me out. i take exquisite care of my teeth… i inherited a fear of what would happen to my teeth if i followed in my dad’s footstep (he had dentures at 40!) so when i was told i needed $ 9900.00 worth of work done i was LIVID. these people are scam artists and everyone is in on it! even the way they talk to each other like the person sitting there is an idiot sounds like a bad script delivered by even worse actors. do yourself a favor don’t go here. ever. EVER.

After spending two years with a dentist whose goal was to get me in and out of the office as fast as possible, Dr. Tran and his staff spent quality time on cleaning my teeth and explaining what services would best serve my needs. I did not feel scammed or pushed into any cleaning procedures, please disregard people’s comments above. If you are looking for a dentist that provides quality work and someone you can trust, then this is the right office for you. I wiould highly recommend this office to anyone.

I felt a scammed after visiting this office. First they told me that their standard cleaning procedure required a desensitizing med and a laser cleaning which my insurance didn’t cover. They said it would produce better results.* I was skeptical but went with it. That added $ 90 to my office visit.
During the cleaning, they followed a formula: Criticize something, follow up with a sales pitch. «You have coffee stains on your teeth. Do you want a whitening today? Your current toothbrush and toothpaste are no good — buy this one instead. Your teeth are moving out of alignment, so let’s get you a price quote on a retainer.»
By the way, I take good care of my teeth and currently use a toothbrush recommended by another dentist.
To their credit, they strive to be «Hi-​Tech» and they indeed had modern tools. Also, they were able to do some additional work right then without scheduling another appointment, which was nice. But I still felt bitter about the whole experience when I walked out the door. If you’re on a budget, go elsewhere.
* From ADA «Statement on Lasers in Dentistry»: «Lasers, as a group, have inconsistently demonstrated the ability to reduce microorganisms within a periodontal pocket.» Overall the ADA appears optimistic about the future of lasers, but they have not given any procedure a Seal of Acceptance.

Warning!!! Don’t go here. They always wanted to do the most expensive work & always come up with some way to rip you off. If you don’t want to let them, they’ll give you attitude. When they billed my insurance for the «needed» work that they claimed, the insurance denied them as «…the information submitted does not meet the criteria (of the medical necessity)…, no benefits can be allowed», then the denied amount becomes YOUR responsibility to pay.

When I use to live in Poway a few months ago, my friend told me about A+Family Dentistry. I already have a dentist that I have been going to for 8 years and really was not too interested in switching since I knew in a few months I would be moving farther away from Poway.
Luck came by and my dentist canceled my cleaning appointment, so I thought perfect timing why not try the new place my friend told me about.
I am so GLAD that I did, this place is much more up to date with their technology and the staff were very friendly. The place was very clean and easy to find with good parking. Roger Tran did an amazing job cleaning my teeth, and YES I am now a regular and very happy customer now, even if I have to drive a little farther it’s worth it. I love my white clean teeth.
