This review is only for Smog checking as I haven’t had anything repaired here.
Antonio’s Autocare is located in the gas station on the corner of Pomerado and Poway Rd. I was a little confused at first as I first walked into the gas station office but you need to go directly into the garage area and there’s a guy standing at a podium on the left side.
I had to get a STAR check and this is one of the few STAR choices in the area. There’s a coupon on the website which brought it out to be $ 36 + $ 8.25 certificate fee. The owner seemed like a really cool guy with a great attitude. They were really really fast. I only waited 5 minutes for them to finish the smog check. I totally forgot to check in because I felt like I had just sat down before they called me back.

I had previously placed a negative review out of anger. But with how the staff handled the issue thereafter, i take it back. They took care of the problem and was resolved.

I came in with a quote from Goodyear for 600. Fred figured out the real issue and charged me only $ 45.
I then told him about a fuze shortage that Goodyear wanted $ 300 to fix again found the real problem and fixed it.
There’s also a 3 month warranty included

Honest and trustworthy! Got myself in a pinch doing a home repair on my car and called about having it towed to them to be repaired. I explained my dilemma and he said, «I have a tool for that. You can do that yourself. Come down and I’ll loan it to you.» What? Incredible. The tool worked and he probably saved me $ 100! Next time I need service on my car, I’m bringing it to Antonio’s!

My BMW broke down in front of this place… turned out to be more problems than I wanted to deal with, they diagnosed for a small fee and held my car there until I could have it towed. Super nice guy… very honest.

My experience was the exact opposite of the two negative reviewers. I brought my car in because it had an annoying noise coming from the back. They looked at the car and determined it needed two new shocks in the back to eliminate the squeaking noise. I agreed to pay $ 280 for this. Once they got in there to do it the guy noticed that there was a bracket loose which was causing the issue. He adjusted it, and oiled up the other 3 brackets. So, they ended up only charging me $ 90 for the labor which was a pleasant surprise. It’s a miracle, the noise that was making me crazy is now gone!
If they were dishonest mechanics as the 2 reviewers say they are, they would’ve charged me $ 280, not $ 90. So, I really have to question who «John S.» and «Erica S.» are. This is John S’s only review on Unilocal,and Erica S only has one other review. I think it’s possible these are fake profiles, and that these negative reviews were written by competitors in an effort to damage Antonio’s reputation. If you look on Google, Antonio’s reviews average 4.8 out of 5 stars.
I highly recommend Antonio’s and I will take my car to them next time I have a problem!

Antonio’s is my new go-​to auto repair shop. Unfortunately, I have been to more than my fair share of mechanics in the past two years. After beginning to think there were no honest mechanics in Southern California I found myself at Antonio’s after being referred by a colleague. My recent experience with fast talking, pushy mechanics that try to squeeze every penny from your wallet made me skeptical at first but after a short time working with Fred to diagnose and correct my car’s issues, I knew this was the kind of mechanic I had been searching for.
Antonio’s is a fairly priced repair shop with honest service. Fred told me exactly what I needed, even though it wasn’t what wanted to hear. No one likes going to the mechanic or paying the bill but if it needs to be done I recommend talking to Fred.
Fred laid out all of my options for correcting my car’s issues and we discussed how I should to proceed. He did not pressure me into doing any unnecessary work or fixing the most expensive repairs first. He left the decision in my hands but suggested we start with the easiest (least expensive) option to see if we could avoid the most costly repairs. The first option did not solve all of my car’s issues but I was leaving town so I told Fred I would probably be back after the weekend. I returned on Monday and Fred and the technician had my car running smoothly in no time.
There were three things that really impressed me about Antonio’s. First was the complete but no pressure way Fred presented my options. Second was that over my weekend away the technician had done some research on my specific car (not knowing for sure if I would return) which saved me a trip to the dealer or an electrician and saved me some serious cash. Third, was the overall service. Fred did me some huge favors by offering me a better than fair price (I checked with other shops) and got my repairs done promptly despite being a busy day.
The bottom line is I was treated well and my car received the service it needed at a good price. I will be back at Antonio’s for any future maintenance or repairs.

Needed to get my car smogged at a Star Station and looked around Poway for a place. Antonio’s had a coupon in the penny saver so I called and he said I could bring it down anytime. Got here about 10 min later. Told me it would take 15 – 20 minutes and it was done in 15. Don’t know if I would take my car here for major service but smog or an oil change, sure.

I had the same experience Alex did, in the previous review. I am a young woman who was referred here by family, i went in there because i had a oil leak and it ended up being a nightmare.
Long story short FRED took advantage of me, because i know nothing about cars. He told me he fixed the problem and made my problem worse. He charged me 600 for something i did not need.
Something he knew i didn’t need, but he knew i had no knowledge about cars, so he did it anyways. Any good mechanic would know that oil leaking in my coolant would not need a valve cover gasket, that would just cover up the problem. He also charged me for changing my oil, why would he change my oil if my oil is leaking into my coolant?
Who knows?
Anyways it ended up being my oil cooler, i had it fixed by another mechanic. That mechanic told me that FRED screwed me.
I called Fred to confront him and he said that when i took it in all i said was fix my oil leak, he said he did. What was i suppose to say FRED?
He manipulated me and took advantage of that fact that i knew nothing about cars. I am disgusted by this man. Again a long story short many words were exchanged, basically he said i had no right to talk to him the way i did, he treated me like a child. He has no respect for women or maybe his customers who challenge him
I had my uncle deal with him for the rest of it, he gave me half the labor back which was $ 200… not happy, maybe because he charged me for something i did not need. I could have saved that money to fix the real problem.
My family and friend swill never return there.

Really love the service and honesty here. I always freak out a little when my car has a problem because there is no saying how serious it is, and since I’m not overly knowledgeable on cars I’m weary of being charged for things that aren’t necessary. Luckily, there is Antonio’s Auto Care and the super nice owner/​technician Fred who has steered my GF’s car through some of it’s rougher times.
We first came to Antonio’s Auto Care while it was still on Balboa in Kearny Mesa after calling around for smog check rates and Antonio’s was the most reasonable. While we were there Fred noticed that the car needed an oil change soon and we came back another day to get that taken care of.
The rates for an oil change at Antonio’s Auto Care cannot be beat. I learned that after Antonio’s moved from Kearny Mesa and I looked for another auto shop that could do it for me under $ 30. Every time I told the techs that I was looking for an oil change at around that price, they laughed and said I better find the guy that did it at that price because they wouldn’t be able to swing that.
Disenchanted but not about to give up, I chanced upon an Antonio’s listed in Poway and I decided to give them a call, and how sweet it was to hear Fred on the other end to assure me that he was still working and able to do an oil change on my GF’s car. Even though its a little out of the way from where we lived in SD, it was completely worth it to take it back to someone we trusted.
Fred is really easy to talk to and he doesn’t throw a bunch of technical terms at us. Instead, he walks us through everything and he even lets us stand right next to him to see how an oil change is done, since I’m sure he picked up on my lack of car knowledge. When a huge oil leak issue came up, we knew exactly where we needed to take it to get fixed. Just for safe measure, we got an estimate at the dealership and sure enough Fred gave us an estimate that was ½ the amount the dealer was going to charge.
Honesty and quality work is all I can really ask for in car repairs, but you get so much more here at Antonio’s Auto Care. They take walk-​ins for oil changes, smog checks, etc. but its probably a good idea to call ahead to make sure they have an opening. We’re in the OC area now, but we’ll definitely be bringing the car back down to Fred whenever we can because he and Antonio’s Auto Care just can’t be beat.

Fred and his team are great. I would drive up to Poway for any work I need. They are very honest and do good work. They don’t push anywork you don’t need, but will tell you if something seems like it won’t be safe if you don’t fix it.
Fast, honest, quality work, nice guys and fair prices. If you don’t like this shop, then you are one of those people that will never be happy.

Great Service and Attention to detail!
I had a problem with my car cutting out and no/​little power. Quick analysis and service. Problem was one of the two catalytic converters was clogged hence that cylinder bank was not able to exhaust appropriately.
