UltraStar Poway Creekside Plaza 10

It is like impossible to ever use a groupon or movie pass here. You basically have to wait an entire month from when the movie comes out and then you can go see it with a pass. So frustrating.

I usually go here on the weekend in the mornings when there is no crowd. I feel that it is the best way to see a movie. The theaters are all digital which is the only way I will see a movie these days. I have never tried the D-​box which is a seat that moves around during the movie. I occaisionally will see a movie in three d here but only if it is a special event otherwise I won’t fork over the extra money.
This place is now called Poway Digiplex so it is not closed it was just sold to a new owner. I seems to have benefited from new management. I was worried that they would get rid of the cheaper tickets on Tuesday and Thursday but that has not been the case fortunately.

They’ve started offering the 2 tickets + popcorn deal so often on Groupon (and apparently, from reading other reviews here, on Livingsocial as well) that it’s turned into a joke instead of a true deal.
Basically, you can’t use Groupons on about half their movies now. When they first began offering the deal it wasn’t like that. I understand not being able to use it on 3D, but a lot of other regular stuff is included now because it’s «special feature.» They even specifically mention it if you call the Ultrastar hotline to listen to their showtimes. Really irritating.

I love this movie theater. The theater is always so clean, the staff professional and the snacks (all though over priced like every other location) is always tasty. The picture and audio is very good and meets my quality expectations (I work in the TV industry and have very high expectations).
My only gripe is that they do not have the stadium seating or even the seating where the arm rest can be lifted. That is not a deal break for me though.

Old school theater that’s passed its prime. No stadium seating nor big comfy chairs. However, should you snag a LivingSocial deal (gets you 2 tix + 1 large popcorn at $ 15), you’re in for a serious treat. Otherwise I wouldn’t bother.
I’ve seen the deal offered several times already so just be on the lookout.

Not a bad theater if you just want to casually catch a flick. It’s not as modern as the Edwards in Mira Mesa and it does not have IMAX or stadium seating. But it’s almost never crowded so you can pretty much always find a seat with an unobstructed view. This also means you don’t need to arrive far in advance.
This theater also has a few DBox motion seats but I wasn’t that impressed with it. The regular seats are fine with me.
Also, on Tuesdays and Thursdays most movies are $ 6.

Not a bad place to watch a movie. Could use some renovations to the theater interior. I find that lighting throws a bad glare on the screen while you are watching previews. They need to do better placement on those lights. The staff is friendly and the fact that Ultra Star puts a good coupon in the paper helps a lot.
They do have a tendency to keep a movie on the Special Engagement list a bit too long. I saw MI4 last week at AMC 20 Mission Valley and it was no longer a special engagement but it is still a Special Engagement at this theater.

Of all the theatres near me, this is my preferred location. As already stated, it’s not stadium seating, the interior is a little dated and the seats can be uncomfortable. But, the quality of the digital movies they show are nice and the fact that it’s not packed constantly really helps.
I haven’t found a better theatre in San Diego yet. BUT, my major consideration is being able to park nearby, sit somewhere other than the first row, and enjoy the quality of the film. I am sure that’s not the same for everyone.

Ok so they don’t have stadium seating here, but the movies are pure digital. Plenty of parking available, plus they have a few places to eat in the Creekside Plaza. Staff are friendly and they do offer discounts tickets. Check out the Friday Union Tribune newspaper and clip out the coupon to save a few dollars. Yeah you have to trudge upstairs to go to the bathrooms. Concessions are expensive (what theater isn’t), but the plus side is that you can bring in your own food or drinks. They actually let you! Tuesday is bargain night. You can come here and see most of the movies for about $ 6.00 (new releases are usually not included), but if you can wait a week or two then you’ll be able to see if for the discount price.

This is definitely not my favorite place to catch a movie, especially in the age of the larger stadium seating theaters.
I’ve been to this location a couple of times in the last month (thanks to a groupon deal) and there just isn’t that WOW factor for me.
On the positive side: parking is a breeze, friendly staff, typically short lines especially for a matinée for both the entrance and concessions and the theaters are rarely crowded.
On the negative side: concessions are expensive (typical of any theater), popcorn is served in a bag and the butter leaked (I shouldn’t be eating buttered popcorn anyway) and all throughout the movie I saw, there was a vertical white line through the screen about ¹⁄₃ in from the right side. For those who know me, I am distracted by the smallest of things and this for me was definitely a distraction.
I am not a big movie goer but to catch a film, this isn’t a bad place… just don’t expect all the bells and whistles.

Alright, so maybe it isn’t the cleanest, most up to date, snazziest theatre around, BUT… you can openly bring your own food in! After standing in line and watching people carry Subway sandwiches and drinks into the theatre, we asked the woman selling tickets if it was «OK», and she said «yes». If I can take my own snacks in and not have to feel like a cat burglar sneaking around, I’m a fan!
The theatre itself is fine, though. It doesn’t have stadium seating and the sound has seemed low for every movie I have seen there. However, it’s never been packed, and they have some good deals for tickets. On any day, you can go see the first showing of the day for just 6 bucks. That’s a great time for those kids movies that you hate to fork over the price for going to the theatre because you know the movie will suck, but your kids are dying to go anyway.
I think this place is perfect if you want to save a little dough when it comes to going to the movies.

This movie theater is old school! Straight from 1995! There isn’t stadium seating, or comfortable seats, but this theater is usually empty and has great matinée specials. There’s usually alway a discount, except peak days (weekends). If you want a low key movie theater experience without the crowds, this is a good choice.

A movie theatre is a movie theatre, right? I think so. There are very few theatres that are so amazing or so bad; they all tend to fall in the middle. This place is another ho-​hum, sit in comfy seats, eat popcorn, and be entertained places.
What I dislike is that it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay far off the beaten path (i.e. freeway… I mean, it is in the bowels of Poway). I suppose if you are local, then this theatre is for you.
Notable thing? It has some early showtimes that other theatres do not have. I am (sadly) an early riser, so I am always down to beat the crowd and then get on with my day.

Second place I’ve tried the dbox with. Overall great place and friendly staff.
Theater four has been the only one I have been unlucky enough to get each visit. Door opens right up to lobby, giving the time of day it’s very annoying. It’s a straight shot for daylight to shine right on your movie.
If they fixed that I would come back.
Parking is a pain, and it’s always way too crowded to enjoy, even matinée times.
Might be my last visit but I have a coupon to use their dbox again.

This theater is the most military friendly in town (other than the one on base) they offer a discount at the window rather than buying a «pass» on base and bring it with you.
The staff has been pleasant and accomodating, but like any theater popcorn and stuff is high priced. The family has enjoyed a few movies in here and we’ve enjoyed it each time.

Nice theater. I went here with the girlfriend to watch Disney’s Tangled. It was a couple weeks after it had been released, and the result was that it was pretty vacant inside the theater. Great movie, but I digress…
The size of the screen wasn’t particularly impressive, but the visuals and sound were spectacular. Very balanced sound, just a little bit of crossover bass rumble from neighboring screens, and the screen was crisp digital goodness.
The UltraStar Poway also has a very neighborhoody vibe, which is definitely not what you’d get at, say, the Mira Mesa Edwards Cinemas or the AMC Mission Valley. If you’re down for neighborhoody but want big city quality, this is a good one. Of course, it’s in Poway, so if you don’t live in the area, the imminent commuting effort might be a negative for you.
One thing I think they could improve are drink sizes. A large soda is 32 ounces. In Movie Theater Land, that’s TINY. At Carls Jr, that’s a medium.

Ultrastar in poway is pretty much everything I like about a movie theater. Here are the deets…
I came here on a Friday night, a little weary of the parking situation and the lines (since I’ve never been here). Parking was cake and so was the ticket line. Same goes for the food line! :) All of the employees were incredibly friendly and nice. The concessions are expensive, but they are expensive everywhere, so I can’t ding them on that. The ticket prices actually weren’t as awful as they are at some theaters AND all of their theaters are digital, so YEA, pretty awesome.
I watched a movie that had been out for awhile so I was placed in a smaller theater, but it still was pretty comfy. The seating isn’t stadium, but I still had a nice view of the screen.
After the movie, I went to get a refill on my soda (large soda = $ 5 + free refill). The concession stand was closed, but the lady behind the counter was happy to give me a refill. At most theaters, they usually turn me down, so YAY.
And of course, the popcorn grade (because I am the snobbiest popcorn eater alive). Ultrastar ranks decent :) Their popcorn was excellently cooked, with plenty of large pieces of popcorn and little to no burnt pieces. I also enjoyed their butter topping, which they applied generously even though I didn’t ask (thanks!!). It’s no Century theater popcorn, but still a nice substitute.
Overall, it was a great movie experience. I really appreciated all of the friendly customer service and the lack of a crowd on a usually very busy night. You rock, Ultrastar Poway :)

If you’re a casual movie viewer there is absolutely nothing wrong with this place. This is especially true if your work is conveniently located close by *wry grin*.
