Provo Alterations

These guys are great. I’ve taken every suit or pair of jeans here for the last three years. They’re nice and do quality work. They did my wedding suit, all of my groomsman, uniforms, etc. Always accommodating of a short time frame. Can’t recommend enough.

I’m not one to leave a negative review on a business because I honestly try to give people the benefit of the doubt however, I felt it necessary to do so here as I was astounded by the horrible customer service I received within the past few days! I called prior to going in and got a quote for 7 pairs of women’s pants (w/​different prices for jeans and slacks). The man who gave me the quote seemed very kind so I figured I’d give this place a try. I went in and the woman there told me that the price he quoted was too low & that there was too many… She’d either need to raise the price or I’d have to wait 2 weeks for the pants to be altered to get it at the price quoted (I’m guessing it was too many for her to do hence the price change…). Anyhow, I accepted the 2 week wait because I wasn’t in a rush, then tried on each pant to get measurements — mind you, I had to measure & pin the first 3 – 4 pants while she stood there saying «I don’t know how long you want it… I just don’t know.» I could tell it was an inconvenience for her because apparently it was too big of an order so I didn’t complain and just kept pinning them myself as she watched.
When we were done (45 min. later) I walked to the front counter to pay and she tells me «I’m not responsible if anything wrong happens to them or if they are too long!» I thought it odd that she said that but figured what could go wrong with hemming… Anyhow, she looks at her calendar and reads me a date for pick up, I agreed thinking it was a 2 week wait. When I got home and pulled out the calendar, I realized it was 3 weeks away. I called her to see where the miscommunication was, she told me she was leaving the country for a week and that’s why she decided to change it to 3. I asked if anyone else would be in working on alterations when she was gone… She answered there would be, but that I already agreed to 3 weeks so there was nothing I could do. She told me if I had a problem with that, I could take my pants elsewhere… And that’s exactly what I did! When I went back in to get the pants she confirmed «It doesn’t matter if I said 2 weeks, you later agreed to June 3^rd (3 weeks away).» In other words she knew she was wrong, she just didn’t care. It wasn’t her broken english either, my grandpa is a first generation immigrant from China & my dad is first generation from the south pacific so I understood her clearly. She just didn’t want my business. You would think they’d love more business (which I definitely brought and could have continued bringing) but in this case, 7 pants was too much of a nuisance. SO DON’T BOTHER GOING THERE IF YOU HAVE A TON OF ALTERATIONS TO DO AT ONCE! THEY DON’T WANT YOUR BUSINESS!!!

Follow-​up to my first review regarding this business.
I received a text message from the owner of Provo Alterations that apologized for my bad experience. The owner cited that they were a small family owned business and they continued with «had our seamstress been made aware of a missing button on my pant, they would have replaced it free of charge.»
I was encouraged to bring my pant back by and they would replace button same day.
I don’t have time for this back and forth. Frankly in my opinion, this should have been caught when they were performing alterations to my suit, which cost my $ 75 dollars approximately.
I just took suit to madsen’s dry cleaners in Provo to have it dry cleaned. Guess what? When I got home and took plastic off my suit to wear to church on Sunday, suit was clean AND THE MISSING BUTTON WAS REPLACED, without asking or additional charge.
That’s what I mean. I took my suit and two winter wool coats into be dry cleaned, spent about $ 60 dollars or so, and they automatically replaced the missing button on my suit pant pocket!
AVOID PROVO ALTERATIONS. THEY ARE TOO EXPENSIVE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE IS POOR.

Cannot say enough about this place! They are efficient, accurate, and an overall wonderful place to have your clothes – from Levi’s jeans to a Gucci suit – tailored just right. I’ve taken my clothes to several tailors/​alterations shops from Ogden to Provo, and Provo Alterations is simply the best in every way.

Last year I took the suit I was going to wear to my wedding there and they did a fantastic job. From personal experience I know that the lady there has a really good eye for modern, slim-​fitting suit alterations and I’m sure she’s good at whatever else would need to be done. She’s done such a good job that I’ve waited until I could come back to Utah to have the rest of my suits altered here. I highly recommend this place and if you look at the Google Reviews 14 out of the 15 reviewers gave it five stars. Basically it’s great.
