Planet Beach Tanning Salon

Wasted my time. I work close to this location so going here for my spray tans would of been convenient. When I do the booth I normally do the Versa Pro but they have the Mystic. It’s annoying to me because they charge you for a spray tan plus the solution plus add ons. Versa does not. So I popped in here to get pricing and the front desk girl had me file out paper work even though I wasn’t tanning. She then proceed to go through a binder of services that I did not care about! Listen lady you just read through my paperwork that said I’m only interested in spray tanning! I was trying to be polite at first but I just flat out said I don’t care about any other services at the moment. She then showed me pricing which would be $ 50 for one single spray. No add ins. Sorry but I’m not paying that for a booth I don’t even know if I like yet, or for any booth for that matter. A customized air brush tan is $ 40 at a real spa. So no thanks Planet Beach. Maybe I would of tried it but I don’t appreciate the sales pitch.
Update: Jills beach across the street has the Versa unlimited for $ 20 a month!

Yes, I found using the recommended 1 oz of gel NOT worthwhile at all. I got a better result NOT using the $ 13 add on. My GF works at a tanning place and told me to save the upcharge as NOT necessary at all. I soooooo totally agree.

Upon coming in for the very first time. There were about 6 people clustered at the front desk. One woman was on the phone and the other woman looked clueless. What’s the point of making an appointment if we don’t get to tan for 20 minutes AFTER the appointment time.
Now going thru this binder. Wow! Just wanted to tan. Ugh. Stupid groupon!!! And was just hit for an additional $ 3 fee. This is just. I’m in awe… made us sit thru a really irritating UP-​sell!!!
We will NEVER COME HERE AGAIN!

Customer service is the best! The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Beds and place is clean. Jennifer does a fantastic job running this PB!

I wanted to provide an update, Planet Beach did take the time to make things right. I will now say the owner personally reached out and the staff was much more courteous. My overall experience was not only relaxing but very delightful.

Planet Beach is not just a tanning salon, but a spa that includes so much more. I would recommend it for being clean and having friendly staff. The spa products are nice and I feel refreshed when I leave. I’ve been to other tanning salons and feel this is far above the others. I pay as I go as I am not sure I would use it enough to justify the monthly fee. Also look for specials and groupons. Note the spray tan does look orange immediately after, but after soaking in looks great!

Don’t ever purchase a groupon type deal for this business. I have been burned twice by purchasing them for this business. The first time when I redeemed I was told the sessions (5 total keep in mind) had to be used within 7 days. They never told me this until I went in for session #3. I told them this was not on the groupon deal. They said it was in the fine print. Luckily I was able to pull up the live groupon deal on my phone — when they couldn’t point out that fine print, they said if I could use the remaining session soon they would allow it. So kind of them.
2^nd time, made sure to read the «list of valid services» the groupon was good for. When I went in, they would not honor them. When I pointed out it said «list of valid services» they said that was a list of all services and that it was not their fault. So I guess groupon writes the ads for them huh? Also, they had me pay an additional tan tax on top of the groupon. Have never had this happen with any other tanning groupon deal. I will never be back to this location or another planet beach again. I guess the only way they can get business is by tricking people. Tip — Go to Carolina tanning spa — Ive went there for years and will be returning there and paying the extra money!!!

I am surprised to see the negative reviews for this location, and want to take the opportunity to share my experience.
Every employee is friendly and knowledgeable, and I have never had to wait for a bed whether I have gone at 9AM or 8PM. Their hours are GREAT – I switched to this location because the Chapel Hill location (different owner) is closed on Sunday and open for like 4 hours the other days of the week. Terrible. If you buy a package, this really cuts down on when you can tan.
The big thing that shows the quality of these owners and their managers is when I lost my job. The owner apologized for my situation and wished me well, and was able to transfer my membership to a salon closer to my home. This Brier Creek location was right next to my office, but would have meant a 30 mile commute just to tan. These owners own 3 total locations and were able to transfer the remainder of my temporary membership to the Durham location. They could have just said no, since I paid in full, and let my 1+months expire, but they went out of the way to help me out in a stressful time.

This place has terrible customer service. I bought a Groupon Now coupon to try out their services. I made an appointment. When I arrived, the girl who helped me wasn’t trained well. The manager was too busy on the phone and helping current customers to be bothered with me. They didn’t even explain what each service did. The «Hydro» something was just heat and got to 120 degrees. All it did was make me sweat. The lotion for the facial (which was by a machine) made my face sticky. The massage was by a chair not a real person as I had expected.
I would never return to this place. Not even for free!

This is a very nice, state-​of-​the-​art, salon that offers tanning, skin care for both body and face, and a wonderful massage chair.
I had the Red Light Therapy, Mystic Spray Tan, High-​Pressure Tan, Slim Capsule, and Hydrotherapy.
The Mystic tanned me nicely about 2 shades darker after one exposure, but also tanned my palms.
The HP Tan is very pleasant but I couldn’t see much difference in my color. I did it one time.
Slim Capsule was horrible! I had to put their oil (that I had to buy) all over my body, put on a plastic jump suit, then lay in a really hot chamber for 20 minutes or so. Ugh! I sweated like a pig and ended the session earlier than the 20 minutes and never did it again!
The RL Therapy is supposed to reduce skin blemishes but I don’t see any difference. I did it 5 times. I had to buy their body lotion and exfoliant for this service.
I did the Hydro-​Therapy 5 times and it was okay I guess. I had to put their lotion on first, and the steam is supposed to soak it in and super-​hydrate the skin. I really didn’t feel much difference.
I think the best thing is the massage chair that you sit in while you get a facial. I didn’t get a facial, but I sat in it for about 15 minutes while waiting for my Red Light Therapy room to be vacated and cleaned. The chair massages both the back and the legs and feet.
Their products ain’t cheap! The oil, lotion, and exfoliant were $ 85!!! The membership is $ 89/​month for one Planet Beach location only, which doesn’t offer all the services (some are tan only, some are massage only, etc) and $ 109/​month to use all of the Planet Beaches in the country.
Based on my one-​week experience in this salon only, I don’t think it is worth that.

Great experience! Management is wonderful! A must try for relaxing spa experience.
