Triangle Glides

The people at Triangle Glides are as nice as it gets; truly patient and helpful, and bring some fun and humor to the tour as well. The Segway was surprisingly intuitive after riding around for the first few blocks, though they did a wonderful job training us and making sure to pull out all the safety stops. I am a local and went with my out-​of-​state boyfriend and we both thoroughly enjoyed the City Center tour, which is a good basic round. I learned a lot of new things about my city, and am eager to go check out one of the more in-​depth tours as soon as I can!

Absolutely recommend. I couldn’t have been more of a skeptic; My friend booked this tour for four of us traveling together and I honestly figured I would have to sit it out as I cannot fall due to previous injuries. I am neither young or in optimal physical condition. I have rods in my back, etc. The instructors were phenomenal, particularly Scott who was also our tour guide. They make sure you feel completely safe. If you can stand, you can ride a Segway. Trust me, I have issues with pain and endurance, if I can do it anyone can. The Segway is very intuitive, feels natural and you will find yourself almost wanting to buy one! The only problem is your feet really do ache and burn after a while standing in one spot. The guides do stop a couple times and let you get the blood flow back and if asked will come relieve you at any other stop. The tour was fun and interesting, we picked a beautiful September day (9÷19÷15) and Scott knew a lot of interesting tidbits and historical facts to share with us along the way. The were three girls in our party who graduated with architectural design degrees together and we really enjoyed the beautiful buildings, homes and facts around the city.
Don’t skip this, I would definitely do it again and may see if they have something similar to do here in Charlotte with my grown children!

The Intro to Paddle boarding class was even better than expected! Josh, the instructor, was awesome! He explained things in a way that was fun and made them easy to remember. I liked that the class size was small, there were 6 of us. Everyone in the class was up and paddling right away. Once we paddled over to the cove, Josh took time to work with us on technique, turns, and just getting more comfortable on the board. This was truly a great experience!

Great tour loved the Segway. Very easy to use. The instructors are great at teaching you quickly and it’s a great way to see the city.

My wife and I had a great time out on Lake Wheeler learning to paddle board last Saturday. The instructor was great and covered all the safety issues as well as taking the time to teach us proper techniques. It was a really great time and I would highly recommend this for anybody interested in paddle boarding.

My husband always wanted to do a segway tour, and our quick trip to Raleigh was the perfect time to surprise him with one! It was way more fun than I expected it to be. I felt like we got to see a TON of the city, and our guide was incredibly nice and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend the tour to others, and would do one of their other tours again.

Triangle glides Segway tour through Historic Oakwood was an incredible way to celebrate a birthday and enjoy learning about the city I have lived in my whole life. The tour guides were great and riding a Segway was so much fun. Definitely want to do some of their other tours now.

My friend and I did a standup paddle board lesson with Josh from Triangle Glides. Josh was great! He was super chill, accommodating, and patient, and he payed attention to detail when we were paddling and helped us hone our skills on the board and gave advice in a positive manner. I had a little experience paddle boarding on my own, no lessons though, it was my friends first time on a board ever. I learned a LOT. My friend loved it and thanked me for coercing her to sign up LOL! Great experience and highly recommend! I would do this lesson again just to get more practice and agility on the board because I want to be better at SUP!

Triangle Glides really has its act together. Equipment, including headsets for narration, was in perfect condition. Bruce was patient and thorough when training our group. Plenty of info was shared via email. Etc. Had a great time and learned a lot. Highly recommend!

UPDATE:
I purchased a Groupon deal in January that expires at the end of March. My tour had to be postponed twice due to inclement weather. It is February 20^th and there are no 90 minute tours available before the 3÷22÷15 expiration date. The owner of the company told me that only 60 minute tours are available on weekend before the expiration date even though the Groupon was for a 90 minute tour or take one during the week. I work during the week and they do not have evening tours available so this was also not an option. I called back a second day and he told me that if my tour was cancelled because of the weather they would be happy to extend my expiration date by a month. This option was not communicated to me on my initial call to reschedule. I was super appreciative of this flexibility! It was, however, NOT offered to me when I originally called… hence the reason for this review. I was overjoyed with this new arrangement and was prepared to delete this review as soon as my new tour was scheduled.
I just received an email from Todd stating that because I expressed my negative experience on this review, I am no longer welcome to take a tour and should get a refund from Groupon. Their responses to the negative reviews on this site are more of the same. Argumentative and inflexible. I thought the customer is always right and an apology should be offered as well as a way to make it right. I guess their strategy is to publicly belittle their customers. I know what happened and I know what was communicated to me. Defend yourself, call me abusive, libelous and accuse me of distorted perception as much as you like. Quite the PR strategy. I will be calling Groupon to get my money back and telling everyone I know that they should NOT waste their money at Triangle Glides.

I’ve been wanting to do a Segway tour for ages and I had a friend visiting this past weekend so it was the perfect opportunity for us to do something new and also learn about the city.
We used the groupon and it was very affordable — definitely worth the money even though we did the shorter Segway Experience tour.
I was apprehensive at first about learning to ride but the training took care of that problem quickly. We had Trevor as our main guide and he spent a lot of time explaining the Segways to us and answering questions. Our group was small (6 people on a cold saturday morning) and each person got a one-​on-​one training inside the building. Once we were ready, we went outside to the parking lot as a group and spent another 10 minutes practicing outdoors. I was already starting to feel like an expert!
For the tour itself, we had audio packs and earpieces where we could hear Trevor narrating at the front of the group. I happened to be at the very back of our line and I had no problem at all hearing him. Our other tour guide Corney watched traffic for us when we had to cross streets, etc, and she followed behind us on an off-​road Segway.
The tour was informative, and we saw several landmarks near the Capitol. We took a break about halfway through and could take pictures, etc.
It went by so quickly — I wish we would have done the longer tour! I fell in love with riding the Segway and the rest of the day my friend and I couldn’t stop thinking about how much fun it was and how we need to start doing Segway tours in other cities!
It was a great experience and everyone at Triangle Glides was awesome. Extra points for Trevor for going to NC State (Go Wolfpack!!). I can’t wait to try one of the other Raleigh tours!

Well done. It was a very cold day, but aside from that, everything about this tour was top-​notch
The Segway is very «user friendly» once you get used to the maneuvering. Easier than riding a bike. Easier than driving a car. It’s all about leaning– it’s as simple as that. Go forward– lean forward. Go left– lean left. Etc. Best thing to do is not overthink it.
I actually work in the tourism industry, but I learned some things I never knew about Raleigh! I thoroughly enjoyed the stories and the well-​thought stops on the tour.
Some of the highlights are the gorgeous Heck-​Andrews house, City Cemetery, and the Governor’s Mansion.
Even better yet, I had a groupon, so it was less than half of what it would normally cost.
Do this! (PIck a day that isn’t too cold). You’ll enjoy it.

My co-​workers and I wanted to do a team outing, and after finding a groupon for Triangle Glides ($ 29 for $ 55 value), we decided to do the mid-​week explorer trip, which was 90 minutes. The group size is limited to 10 people, though there were only 4 spots available (the other group had 6), they allowed us to join with 5 people which I thought was great customer service!
The main guide Darrow helped us get acquainted to the segway, and Josh and another woman (forgot her name! super nice blonde) did some practice with each person. Though pretty scary at first, once you get used to it it’s very easy to ‘drive’!
Darrow and Josh brought us on the tour, with Darrow narrating. My earpiece was comfortable on my ear, but quite staticky during most of the tour. Luckily I was still able to hear most of what was said, but it was a bit annoying.
We ventured around downtown Raleigh and got some education on what most of the buildings were. We took a break at the capitol building and drank some of our bottled water, which they gave us upon departure. Josh also took some group pictures for us, which we all really loved!
The rest of the tour consisted of mostly the Historic Oakwood area of downtown. You could certainly tell that Darrow was really into the houses and history in the area, and it was not surprising to learn that he lives in that neighborhood. I think some of my colleagues thought we spent a bit too much time there, but as an architecture and real-​estate lover, I found it all very interesting.
After that, we headed back to the shop, where we returned our segways and got our ‘segway licenses’. We got off our segways and rejoiced at finally being able to move our legs — it does get really tiring!
Overall, I had a very good time on the tour, and I know my colleagues enjoyed a change of pace from the usual team meal. I don’t think I would spend the normal $ 55 for the tour, but for $ 29 it was great!

What a great experience for me and my two teenage kids. I booked the Discovery tour for my son’s 15^th birthday, not knowing what it would be like and if he and my 17 year old daughter would even like it. We all loved it! Triangle Glides did a great job of touring us around areas of Raleigh we didn’t even know existed and the history was really interesting. Our guides were very patient and made the experience really fun. But let’s face it, it’s really about the Segway itself. That little machine is a BLAST! We all want one of our own after riding on it! This is definitely an outing that everyone should experience. And before you head out on the tour, there is plenty of training with the segway so if you’re worried, don’t be, it’s really easy AND fun! Thank you, Triangle Glides for a really great time!

I highly recommend the Intro to Stand Up Paddle Board lesson with Triangle Glides! I took the class with a friend, our instructor was great, we learned a lot, had ample time to practice our new moves, and ultimately had a blast. We’re hooked.

This is some fun stuff! My wife and I along with a couple friends took the Historic Oakwood Tour, and we had a blast. The weather was perfect too, which is a bonus!
They first teach you all the safety lessons of operating a Segway and then give you some test driving practice. Once you get the hang of it, it’s smooth sailing.
The tour itself was about 4 miles and was very informative. Definitely shed some light on a part of Raleigh I hardly paid attention to. I often think about what to do when I have family or guests in town and want to show them a good time. This will be added to the list!
I strongly recommend and will be back :)

Cruisin’ on a Wednesday afternoon…
After taking a test ride on a Segway years ago, I was hooked and knew it was the perfect team event for my office. Unfortunately, it’s a bit pricey for a 1.5 ride around town, as we were on a budget and $ 55 is the going rate. Thankfully, they offered a Groupon for $ 29! Sold! Sign us up.
A few weeks later we were off and taking our first turns around their office. Trying to get our balance and learning figure eights. Everyone had white nuckles from holding the handles so tight.
30 minutes later and we were 30 and 40 year old children tearing up the streets. Look mom no hands!!! Seriously, it doesn’t take long to get the hang of the steering and balance.
The tour itself isn’t as educational for a Raleigh native, but might be so for someone who is from out of town. I think it’s hard to go into any real detail when you’re trying to keep a group moving along at 5 – 10 mph. Still it was insane fun and the team agreed it was the best outting we’d done to date.
Now if I’d only had an extra $ 5k+ I can get one for my neighborhood. Well, I can always dream.

Triangle Glides has a store on Blount Street in downtown Raleigh and offers Segway Tours of the area many days throughout the week. In their store, they also sell stand-​up paddleboards and other recreational goodies.
I found a LivingSocial deal for an introductory class for stand-​up paddleboarding for half price (like $ 40 – 45 I think). It was SO well worth it! We met our two hosts at Lake Wheeler recreational area on Saturday morning. I believe their names were Josh & David, but I may be wrong. They were extremely friendly, optimistic, and excellent instructors. They taught us the different strokes and how to manage your board as well as safety tips. We were on the water within 20 minutes, and no one in our group even fell off their board! They were excellent, and the boards were great training boards. I can’t wait to go again & am considering purchasing one for myself :)

«OH MY GOD OH MY GOD WHAT DO I DO???»
First of all, this is not saying that Triangle Glides company didn’t prepare me – they did, just that I easily freak out and panic when not on solid ground. They are staffed with kind, patient, and understanding guides and facilitators.
Before they send you out into the streets with the segways, they train you inside their shop — teaching you how to move forward, backward, stop, weave, speed, and balance. Afterward, they have you practice turning and going around in a circle for a few more minutes in the parking lot next door to get used to turns and cement.
Throughout the hour tour, they were very kind and provided a lot of assurance to let me know that I was doing well, and it did ease my nerves. At about the halfway mark of the historical downtown Raleigh tour, I started getting used to the movement of the segway, but I was a bit overwhelmed at first.
Please do not forget to tip them after your tour!
