Yogurt Deck

I drove down the hill to find this place. Turns out they were closed :(

I was in love with this place. First had it after a yoga class — what a treat. I loved their ‘true blood’ yougurt.
But it saddens me to say — I believe ‘Yogurt Deck’ is no more. I’ve been by three time (various times) and the door was locked/​/​/​no one was around. Last time (mid Jan), saw a for rent sign.

Went by Yogurt Deck today and they looked like they closed up and left. Are they out of business?

AMAZING! Kevin is awesome and super helpful! We go here at least 3x/​week. They have new flavors every night!

I gave this place another chance and im sorry i did. The yogurt flavors were not appealing. It was super icy and their yougurt machines look like they were built in the 50s. I agree with another review on here. Turn this dump into a Yogurtland with all the great flavors and above all consistancy.

Uhhh. K I love this place and I think the owner but the last experience I had here was NEGATIVE.
I walked in and walked up to ask for some samples. The girl working at that moment-​I believe she had hot pink or blue hair pretty sure it was hot pink (not sure how I could mix those two up) — ignored me and continued to do something with another customer. She had looked at me, so she could have said, «I’ll be with you in a moment» or something. But she didn’t. After I waited for her to finish whatever she was doing with the other customer (it was pretty strange) she just looked at me and said, «Do you need something?» Um, RUDE. Yes, I did need something, sample cups. Even though there weren’t any other customers waiting, she acted as if I was really bothering her by asking for a sample. I don’t want to feel like a burden when I am going to get yogurt.
So, Yogurt Deck, PLEASE change your policy and let customers take their own samples so we don’t have to *bother* your dear employees. Or else, hire someone else.
I’ll be back but I’ll probably wait till the manager/​owner who was SO helpful last time to come in.

I am also not a fan of the way the yogurt comes out of the machines. It really does look like _​_​_​_​!!! But, I guess if it tasted that way, my review would be much different, so in the end, who really cares, right?
Kevin was working the day I came in, and boy, he is just a bubbling ball of sunshine. He was incredibly enthusiastic about the yogurt, the flavors, the manager, the owner, his job, his life, the location, and he was also really gung-​ho about giving me ginormous samples of whatever I wanted! After the third sample, I was actually getting a bit full. When I made a joke about no longer wanting to actually purchase any yogurt, he came right around and said at least I could go tell all my friends about the huge samples. Always positive.
The red velvet cake was really rich. I totally felt like I was eating a liquid cupcake. The banana wasn’t quite my favorite, but I really enjoyed the honeydew.
I got a mix of the original tart and the honeydew. Unfortunately, I’m big on fruit, and I only saw two kids. The strawberries were large and fresh, which was awesome, but the peaches looked canned. I’m used to piling on kiwi, raspberries, mango, blackberries, etc. This time i was limited to strawberries. Oh woe is me, right? But it would be nice to have additional fruit toppings.
When I tried the original yogurt, I had a spasm. It is very tart, but in a strange way. It seems to be fine all by itself, but when it is eaten with any topping, something is wrong… I wish I had tried it as a sample in the store. I would have then chosen another flavor.
I got the boyfriend chocolate and peanut butter with every chocolate topping I could find, and he was quite pleased with the results.
So, if you are looking for rich yogurt with dessert and candy toppings, this is definitely the place. If you’re looking for something more light and fruity, then maybe you should make the drive down to Pinkberry or Yogurtland.

meh, its ok. Just ok… there are other yogurt places I like better.
I’d stop in here again if I was on this side of the hill and had a really bad craving, but otherwise, just meh… props to them however, for having unique flavors and costing only .35 cents an oz
I came in here on a dreary, cold, day when no one was in the store… maybe i’d appreciate it more if it were bright and sunny out, with a clear view of the ocean, and it was a bit more lively

My daughters and I are in love with this place. Their pumpkin yogurt is crazy, crazy good and I had the carrot cake yogurt yesterday and I loved it. My girls love all the kiddy flavors and toppings. The owner and her crew are lovely people and my time there is always so relaxing and zen-​like. And that view? Absolutely gorgeous. We have became great fans and we will be for a long time to come. Okay, now I’m craving yogurt from Yogurt Deck. Damn!

I was extremely ecstatic to hear a «yogurt place» had opened up in rpv earlier last year. The first thing that came to mind when I first stepped in the store a few weeks ago was «cute» and «quaint» I really enjoyed the hand decorated signs above each self-​serve machine. Kinda reminded me of my elementary school days with our names above our cubby holes. There wasn’t a customer in sight, and the lady (I’m assuming the owner) was SO quick to hand me a cup and introduce their new flavors … to the point I pondered (out loudly) «wait. isn’t this self serve?» Upon hearing this she inquired whether this was my first time here… «Yes mam! » I was showered with generous samples as well as flavor suggestions.
Flavor-​wise… it was OK. I would say 3 stars… The Water melon was my favorite. the Vanilla was a bit on the sour side. Peanut Butter could have been creamier… Banana was JUST like a banana (therefore.I’d prefer real bananas instead). I’d stick with watermelon.
One little irk of mine was that they didn’t have the indented spouts for the Yogurt Machine… therefore the ice cream all came out of the machine looking like _​_​_​_​. And if you got the chocolate… hey more imagination for you! but then, if it tastes good. then what’s the bother… right? (more so the reason to pile toppings on it) .
Speaking of which, I was definitely amazed by their topping choices… Specifically… the gummies. They had everything from cola gummys to those gummy egg yolks (never understood the point, but it looks cool). It was like a sweet factory and yogurt store all in one. NOM.
Price was a bit more expensive then other yogurt places… but you really can’t beat the beautiful ocean view.
An additional star for the warm service and the delectable selection of «candy/​gummy» toppings they had to offer.

I went to this place with my sister after her appendicitis and honestly, i’d have to say, it was below par. I usually do not have high expectations for froyo, but the yogurt came out VERY liquidy, all of the flavors, so it wasn’t just one of them. To top it off, when we sat down to enjoy it, it tasted VERY icy too. It became very watery. It was horrible, but definitely not what I would expect off PV Dr. West. Of course, the view is amazing, but somehow it doesn’t make up for the icy-​water aka. yogurt.
The toppings were a bit skimpy too. (And yes, i’m comparing to Yogurtland). Maybe they should close and re-​open under Yogurtland’s name. I’m sure business would double or even triple.
I doubt I’ll go back, unless I have a REALLY bad craving, even then, I’ll drive the extra 15 – 20 mins to Yogurtland.

I love frozen yogurt. Yes. I am a lemming that got on the froyo train and never got off. My parents live in PV so when I visit I miss my froyo fix bc I don’t want to drive miles up the hill to get to Pinkberry (which has lost it’s appeal to me — bring back the tartness!!). BUT when I saw Yogurt Deck was opening I got all kinds of excited. Froyo? YES. Self-​serve? YES PLEASE!
I went there and it was pretty quiet — I think a lot of that has to do with its location which is a little weird (you can park in front along the street or in the upper plaza and then kinda make your way down to the store). But the froyo flavors were pretty nice and the owner working there was SUPER nice — they won an extra star just for his attentiveness and overall smileyness! The first time I went there he gave me a discount just because… probably a little ploy to make sure I return but hey… it worked! Since then I’ve been back a few times when I’m home and I believe now they have a happy hour discount (some % off your price during it’s happy hours). Plus I think I saw a sign saying they serve breakfast now? Really? I am curious to see what that’s about…
Now it’s no Yogurtland… the yogurt itself lacks a little of the texture/​consistency I like (not as smooth?). And it’s not as much variety but if you live in PV I can bet you’re like me and are tired of living so far away from life that it takes 30 minutes to really get anywhere. So give it go… and let me know what’s up with that breakfast dealio.

Great location: YES. Food Choices: moderate. The Breakfast (Bagels & Salmon): very TASTY! The yogurt prices are all the same for Toppings and Without… so, please ignore prior complaints (via Unilocal) about the overpriced Yogurt. They will be expanding (next door), soon. go and enjoy and view, food and hosts !

I’ll start with the pluses. I spend a lot of weekends with the folks in Palos Verdes (Lunada Bay to be exact), so the location is really convenient. They have a gorgeous view. The place is clean, and the staff are very nice. I like the pump bottles of Ghirardelli chocolates for toppings.
Now the minuses. I had the vanilla and the chocolate yogurt. The vanilla had zero flavor, and it was really icy and chunky. The chocolate was not icy (but not smooth either) but it had very little chocolate taste. The price was astronomical. $ 0.52 per ounce!!!
I am used to going to Yogurtland (in Huntington Beach and Long Beach) where they have a larger selection of yogurts and a MUCH larger topping selection, and the price is $ 0.30 per ounce. I understand that rent is probably high for the Yogurt Deck based on their location, but you cannot have an inferior product and charge 75% more than the competition. It’s just not a recipe for running a successful business.
I was really disappointed, because I really wanted to like the Yogurt Deck. I was excited about the location and hoped that we would have something closer than driving up the hill to Yummy Yogurt. Unfortunately, this one visit will be my last. Total downer.

Great view — Good Yogurt Selection — High Prices — If you are in the area, this is a great place to hang out and watch the sunset… panoramic view of the Pacific… They currently are running a happy hour special that brings the price down to «normal» levels… free samples!

When I heard about Yogurt Deck I was very excited to learn that a serve yourself yogurt location had opened on what has been in the past a pretty desserted (pun intended) side of the peninsula. I’m a huge fan of Yogurtland and was expecting a the Yogurt Deck to be a place of the same caliber, which may have been why I was so disappointed after my visit to the newly opened store. Although the concept is similar to Yogurtland with the serve yourself option and myriad of toppings, the yogurt wasn’t as creamy and the flavors just didn’t have the same punch. It wasn’t horrible, but was simply mediocre. On top of being subpar to Yogurtland’s and other frozen yogurt places’ products, it was also much more expensive. I can’t argue, however, with the fact that the employes are incredibly nice and that their location is fantastic… I would much rather watch the sun set while eating my yogurt at Yogurt Deck than stare at the passing cars from the more urban locations of Yogurtland. But, I guess the bottom line is, that while it is nice to have a healthy yogurt option on the hill, don’t expect too much in terms of taste and be prepared to pay up. When the Yogurtland opens up in Riveria village I’ll definitely make the drive and take my business there instead.

Okay– call me trendy but I am a super big fan of all of these Yogurt places that have a bunch of different flavors and toppings that you can mix and match yourself and then weigh it at the end to figure out how much you owe for it. These places are all pretty much the same– this one happens to be right under the Admiral Risty Restaurant and has a great view of the ocean. The frozen Yogurt is great! Far better than Pinkberry (which I think is gross) and lighter and healthier than Cold Stone’s.

Love it! I’m lactose intolerant but they have fabulous dairy free yogurts. The people that work there are really nice. Great happy hour prices. I think there should be more Yogurt Decks in the world.

Haha, I was on hand with camera when this place opened. I tasted samples, and even took notes on the unique product, which amounts to healthy fro yo.
Then I misplaced my notes and forgot to write the review, slap me silly.
Meanwhile, Carlos wrote a great review with all the informative facts you’ll need to know about the healthy fro yo, and I am still looking for my notes…
You won’t be disappointed by the location of Yogurt Deck, that much I promise.

and I were enjoying Starbucks and the billion dollar views of Palos Verdes when I recalled seeing a sign about a new yogurt place nearby. We finished and I prodded Karima to join me on an extended trip through the land of froyo.
My 1^st visit allowed to meet the owner and she informed me that YD was opened 2 months ago to work our the kinks.
Like most other froyo places, samples are available and I chose the Strawberry Banana w/​assorted fruits (picture available). The Happy Hour price (50 percent discount on purchases made between 5 and 7. Why don’t they serve Yogurt Soju?) was about $ 3. I must admit that I wasn’t all that impressed because of the paucity of strawberry flavor.
My recent visit was this past Friday and I decided to order the sweet kefir w/​peanuts and blackberries. This was really good. Not too sweet to overwhelm the taste, but the downer was the lack of creaminess (this will be explained below).
Gluttony took over and I decided to get the Pineapple Dream (or is it Delight?) w/​peanuts and mango to go. Heaven to me, pure heaven…
Some factoids about Yogurt Deck:
–They use gluten-​free non-​fat kosher sugar free certified natural products that contain the dietary supplement probiotics (this could be the explanation behind the lack of creaminess). The probiotics Wiki page is a very thought provoking read (I can be a health nut sometimes). My pictures explain some of the above.
–24 different toppings which include several fruits, nuts, and cereal. 8 different yogurt flavors.
–Free wifi
–52 cents an ounce for unlimited toppings, 40 cents sans toppings. This struck me as a bit quirky. Most places have a simpler pricing structure.
–Weekday Happy Hour between 5 and 7. I had to mention this again because its a bit comical when a yogurt shop uses a phrase more commonly utilized by bars.
