22 Degrees

I hate to start the review this way but there’s better gelato in South Bay than this nook. However! It’s cute and accessible for those chillen at Coffee Cartel or just strolling on the Riviera. It’s small inside and not much to choose from. Maybe a dozen or so flavors, and nothing that caught my eye. Basic options like Mocha, Rose, Banana, Strawberry, Cinnamon, Butterfinger…
The guy was nice and had a lot to say about their products — filled with probiotics etc. I went with the coconut lime, which was okay… $ 3 for a baby scoop and a little piece of waffle cone.

I didn’t know the difference between prebiotic gelato and probiotic frozen yogurt when I entered 22 degrees, and I still don’t, other than it’s apparently better because it helps bacteria grow. But honestly I really don’t care either way. I see health trends come. I see health trends go. I see the part on the website where it says ‘Clinically provened (sic) and FDA approved for:’ and then there’s a bunch of blank space, and I laugh. In the meantime, I just want to eat delicious frozen treats.
On the deliciousness scale 22 degrees settled on a comfortable ‘good’. Actually, what it did was average out to good. The dirt with worms flavor was gritty oreo with gummy worms… the orange bitter dark chocolate was smooth-​whipped, rich and fantastic. I recommend making use of the samples before ordering. I bet there are some gems in there!

I told the girl behind the counter it was my first time in and did she have any plain choc?
She pointed to a gelato called dirty worms or dirt and worms and said «this ones popular.»
I said «what flavor is it?
she said «I don’t know, I don’t really make the gelato»
I thanked her and left.

It is a little hard to find the place.
I tried the spicy chololate taste, it was awesome and innovative. It had three layers of taste, the last one is a few spicy when it was in your throat. Fantastic! But other kinds of taste are just so so.
The price is satisfied.

Healthy gelato??? I mean… come on! It doesn’t get any better than that.
Their flavors are good and they have a few that change every so often. It’s a cute, little store tucked away in Redondo Beach.
Oh, and the piece of waffle cone they put on top of your gelato is pretty good.

The gelato was so good. Homemade and they pasteurize their own milk. It was great knowing that we can pig out and eat some probiotics at the same time.
I had the jalepeno chocolate and rum raisin mixed.

Great tasting and not too bad for you.

I came here on Sunday after trying to go to another dessert place in Redondo. 22 Degrees is tucked in off the main strip, and it’s not a particularly big establishment.
Came here this past Sunday around 7 p.m. and there wasn’t much activity. There are lots of flavors of gelato, and the establishment tries to push for health as much as possible, so things are low-​fat, low sugar, etc. There are even some ice cream flavors.
They have a bunch of different flavors including things like dark chocolate orange, jasmine, Vietnamese cinnamon, rose, green tea, pumpkin spice, salt caramel pecan, etc. You can get your gelato either in cone or cup form, or you can opt for it in a smoothie/​shake. I tried about 4 – 5 different flavors — felt quite shameless and ultimately opted for Vietnamese cinnamon and coconut (you get two scoops for a small).
I wish I’d tried the coconut before getting it. After having some amazing coconut ice cream just days before, I was a bit disappointed when I had it here. The coconut flavor was not strong at all — maybe because they used fresh coconut water as opposed to a heavier coconut milk. When paired with my stronger Vietnamese cinnamon, it might as well have been flavorless. Fortunately, I thoroughly enjoyed the Vietnamese cinnamon.
To top things off, they give you a crispy ice cream cone wafer cracker to accompany your two scoops, so you get cup and cone — best of both worlds.
Service: Good! At one point the young man behind the counter told me to try every flavor. I couldn’t believe my ears. He was great at recommending pairings, too; I probably should’ve taken his advice.
Bottom line: Worth the stop out here for some healthy gelato. Try before you buy.

Enough samples to make a decision; haters looking to sample a buffet; make a decision. You’re not picking out a college, it’s gelato.

Prebiotic Gelato? What an interesting concept… Well, it sure got my attention! If I didn’t look this place on Unilocal and saw that the gelato had prebiotics in it, then I probably wouldn’t have come.
They claim that their gelato is healthier than frozen yogurt. I’m not sure if this is actually true, but at least I know the gelato is probably healthier than other gelato places and healthier than ice cream.
The guy who worked when I came in was really nice and let me sample a lot of flavors. And I mean a lot… I’m really indecisive…
I finally decided to get the Lavender and the Coconut. Both were equally amazingly delicious. My boyfriend got the Chai which was also really good. I also like how they give you a waffle with your gelato! So cool hehe.
I’ll definitely be down to come back to try some of the other flavors!

I didn’t get the customer service fan fare that other Unilocalers received. There were no other customers inside & we were abruptly asked what we would like the second we walked in. I replied that it was our first time there and if he could give us a sec… so we had to be proactive in asking for samples.
We did try several flavors though.
Pink peppermint bark is good at first but then has an overpowering & lingering aftertaste.
Jasmine was mild yet strong at the same time. This was alright.
Coconut Lime was mild but refreshing.
Cinnamon was better when sampled but when we ordered it, it was less flavorful and tasted icy and flat… As was the dark chocolate with raspberry chunks.
I literally could not finish the gelato here. This NEVER happens. I ALWAYS finish any frozen dairy treat.
The only 2 good flavors were Heath bar crunch with vanilla base & stracciatella. And I’m basing that decision against all the other underwhelming flavors that we ate.
On a positive note, the best thing here might be their complimentary waffle cones
All in all, I wouldn’t make a special trip out to go there again.
TMI but this is a public service announcement… we noticed we were very gaseous and I was super bloated after the fact… so if you aren’t alone and by a toilet after 2 hours of consumption, then you are SOL — pun intended.

I THINK that Mon-​Fri after 6PM, the meters don’t require money. Please read the regulations for the meters, my memory could be wrong. We parked pretty much on the side street right near this dessert shop, but didn’t realize it. We ended up walking across the street in the opposite direction and down the block and then back. The area is full of shops and restaurants and is really nice to stroll through!
As we neared the coffee shop, we thought 22 Degrees might be inside it, but as we got closer, we found what we were in search of. There is a tiny area for indoor seating to enjoy your frozen delights. If need be, there are tables and chairs outside where you can sit as an alternative.
When we walked in, we were greeted by this young man and he was very helpful with samples. I first tried the cantaloupe sorbet and ended up with a scoop of it… it was really sweet, smooth, and refreshing. I tried about 3 other gelato flavors and settled on the Vietnamese Cassia Cinnamon. But I guess a tiny sample and a full scoop didn’t translate into deliciousness! I really didn’t care for it after a few bites, it is very gritty! I love the little piece of waffle on top of the cup/​cone as a garnish, it is a nice touch!
I really wanted to try the Spicy Chocolate Jalapeño, but I forgot about it after searching for this place and I didn’t see it in the case. Mango Passion Fruit and the Wasabi Raspberry Chunk might have been good, too… but alas, they weren’t in the display either.
I have tried a few gelato places and they are equivalent to this one. There is only one place that I would consider going back to and have! I am still on the hunt for another excellent gelato place!
On the plus side to this shop is that their gelato has «health benefits», has Pre-​biotic fiber, is homemade from scratch, is made from natural and premium ingredients. Their website encourages you to eat this stuff up!
I had bookmarked this place to make a point of coming to give it a try. I can say I did and now it is off my list of bookmarks… for me, not so sure I’d make a point to come back to this place. A lot of people really are fans of this place, so I suggest you come give it a try for yourself and see if it is a yay or a nay.

So good I’m still thinking about it from the weekend. Really appreciate the wide variety of non standard flavors like rose petal, chai tea and jasmine. The jasmine and rose flavors were my top choices but I will definitely, definitely be back to try the others. Small cup fits two flavors and is enough for one person, so go for a bigger size if you plan to share (it’s so good you shouldn’t).
Small lot parking but there’s also metered street parking.
PS. There’s a great taco spot across the street if you want to eat a meal beforehand!

If you’re looking for ice cream different from the norm, then this is a pretty good place to try. They have very unique flavors with a healthy twist.
I had the jasmine flower and rose petal flavors this past visit and it was definitely as if I was eating a garden. There’s no doubt about what flavors you’re eating. It took me a few bites to get used to the intense floral flavor but I actually enjoyed it quite a bit.
They have a a variety of other flavor options and even have the option for hot gelato which I would like to try the next time around.

My co-​worker and I always walk past this place when we go eat the Brewing Co. next door to the Coffee Cartel and we finally made a stop.
The gentleman working here was very prompt and courteous! There’s quite the variety of flavors, but I started off with something simple: cookies & crème.
The taste wasn’t your average cookies & crème and the way my co-​worker described it: «It tastes like medicine.» I can see where she’s going at, but it wasn’t an unpleasant taste! Perhaps because it’s good for you?
3 stars as of now and I will return to try out new flavors and perhaps give an updated review!

I got the peanut butter gelato, pretty tasty but the best is the Cookies and Cream Gelato! Supposedly better for you than most gelato, prebotic they say…

This place. OMG. Yes, their ice cream is amazing, but more than that, their customer service is on the next level. The owner makes the ice cream himself!!! He was so sweet and kind.
He allowed me to try nearly every flavor – from the unique flavors to the more traditional ones. I’m very curious and I like to try different foods and flavors at least once, so of course I wanted to try all unconventional flavors that 22 Degrees had to offer. Not only was he willing to provide me with samples, but he encouraged me to try them all! – so I did, pretty much.
I ended up getting one of the the floral ice creams and something else… my memory fails me. But what I DO remember was that I was a few cents short when paying the owner, but he was totally cool about it and told me not to worry. OMG. I don’t think he knew how much I actually love ice cream, but for him to do that was WOW… Let’s just say that his kindness left an impression and he has won a fan forever!
I went back to 22 Degrees once… but they were CLOSED even though on Unilocal it said that they were open. I was heart broken… so I had to settle for some boba from Coffee Cartel next door. :(Please, don’t do that to me again.
PS. You can pick any gelato and they will steam it into a hot drink for you! OOOOOOH. Holla!

A tiny little gelato shop with tons of interesting flavors. The guys at the counter is super nice and will let you sample as many of their unusual flavors as you’d like.
The price isn’t exorbitant either compared to other gelato places I’ve been to. The only downside is that they don’t have their own inside seating or even a restroom. You can use the coffee shop next door’s. There are also some outside tables and chairs within the plaza.
All the gelato options have very strong flavor. I really enjoyed mine but couldn’t finish 2 scoops by myself.

Don’t bother to go to Redondo Beach for this… unless you are in the neighborhood.
The Catalina Ave is a nice place to walk around with some cool restaurants and stores.
If not for their super friendly service, I would just give this place two stars for their gelato. They have lots of strange flavors but they don’t taste as surprising as their names.
We had Oreo cream and cookie. Herbal Mint, Rose Petal, Japanese Matcha Tea and something else I forgot. Rose Petal was the only flavor tasted light and like rose.
Small (2 scoops for $ 3.85) and Medium (3 scoops for $ 4.85)
oh, btw, they sucked in calculating the price. $ 3.85+ $ 4.85– $ 8 ($ 4 for $ 8 Google offer)…how hard was that???
my friend went the other day said she ordered the gelato to make a hot drink and she said it was good. I guess if you like sweet than maybe this is the place for you.
