Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream and Yogurt

Best. Ice cream. Ever. I love Handel’s so much. Thank goodness there is not one near me I would have been a diabetic by now. Sooo many flavors. All sooo good. My favorite though is blueberry cobbler. Perfectly creamy sweet cream ice cream, real blueberries and cobbler pieces. It’s so amazing.

Believe the hype, this place is spectacular. I have loved every flavor I’ve tried, my favorites being:
Graham Central Station
Ore-​Dough
Birthday cake
I don’t know how to describe it, they just put a little extra «something» in it. Maybe it’s just the long line, but each time I have Handel’s I am more than impressed!

I have NO problem driving from Irvine to here to get some Handel’s ice cream!!!
Their banana cream pie is my absolute favorite. I could eat it every day and not get sick of it.
All the workers are very polite and patient so feel free to try as many samples as you need! The parking lot is huge and I’ve never seen it full. I always get lucky and usually don’t wait in line for too long [but I always notice a longer line once I’m leaving].
Tip: Even with the single scoops, you can ask for half scoops of 2 different flavors!

Super delicious and creamy ice cream. A plethora of flavors to choose from. We picked graham central station (love crunchy bits of graham crackers) and banana cream pie (strong banana flavor, smooth and rich).
Set up is a walk up store with limited seating. On the bright side I can go back for seconds because standing burns more calories, right?

I am so glad this place isn’t close to where I live because I would forfeit any diet in order to eat more ice cream. This place is the best of all things: 1. Cheap 2. Huge portions 3. RIDICULOUSLY DELICIOUS. In case you were wondering, go here immediately for ice cream. Seriously. I’m an ice cream snob (check my Unilocal history) and I would live in the parking lot if I could.
Anyway, I got a little carried away there. Go here. Forget the fact that there’s a line — apparently there is always a line. It doesn’t take too long as the staff is efficient and there were five open windows when I went. Not to mention how affordable this place is. I go to fancy ice cream places where I pay on average $ 2 – 3 more for a double and the portions and flavors are better here.
I had the coconut cream pie and the chocolate cake batter. Be careful if you’re in the mood for an ice cream cone, their portions are ginormous and you’re bound to get the ice cream melted before you can finish it, so I always opt for the cup. The coconut cream pie was so freaking tasty: rich coconut flavors with little shortbread bites amount to a beautiful creamy blend of tropical warmth. And mixed with some of the chocolate cake batter, which tastes EXACTLY like the brownie batter I would lick on a spoon after my mom would bake when I was a kid, it creates a beautiful combination.
So enough about me, go make your own experiences, do yourself a favor and try a flavor.

I’m hooked. The ice cream is incredible and inexpensive! Try the 4-​flavor sampler for $ 5.50. You will not regret it. The banana cream pie is amazing. Chocolate cake batter is delicious. I will be back to try many more flavors!

We tried the following ice creams:
Banana cream pie — delicious and a bestseller! Must try, but melts quickly.
Chocolate Raspberry truffle — really good, but so so rich.
Blueberry cobbler — It was ‘good’, but not ‘great’.
Graham central station — really really good. graham crackers, and just balanced sweetness.
Butter pecan — also a really tasty ice cream that had the perfect balance of sweetness and texture.
Chocolate peanut butter brownie — oh yea, you can tell by the name that it’s going to be delicious.
Vanilla Truffle caramel — good, but nothing terrific. good to balance and mix with other rich ice creams.
Definitely coming back here.

I ate here today after taking a few months off. I ordered the Buckeye and the Blueberry cobbler, both 5 star flavors IMO. I finally tried a sample of their Graham Central Station. I am not a graham cracker fan, but this would be amazing if I was. The banana cream pie sample was also delicious and fresh, but I am also not a huge banana dessert person. I felt I had to up the stars back to at least 4 after today’s pleasant experience. If you want to read the flavors to avoid, check out my last review.

I need to try all their flavors and I will edit my list below as I keep trying their flavors.
The Cream: So good! It is just the right amount of sweet. The consistency is perfect! I’m craving it as I type this review.
Ambiance: No indoor seating. It’s a walk up store and you can sit on the tables outside. Not a lot of tables. It’s very mom and pop.
The lines can get pretty long. Just time your visit correctly to avoid lines or bring a friend to help pass the time.
They have ice cream for your k9 baby! They ran out when I went so my k9-​daughter couldn’t try it.
Parking: Shared parking.

After running an errand in Torrance, my kids reminded me that I promised them ice cream the next day if they stopped bothering me that night. Ugh, gotta stick to promises I guess…
Ok, so I checked my Unilocal bookmarks and saw Handel’s. It’s located right next to a CVS. We walked up to the menu to check out the flavors. Then the girl in the window called «Next!». I looked around to see if someone else was waiting and then a person from the line behind us yelled «THE LINE IS BACK HERE!». Ok, sorry. First visit. (Didn’t know people in Torrance could be rude).
But the line moved fast and it was all good. My son got the oreo cookie cheesecake on a sugar cone. Babygirl had strawberry on a sugar cone. And I had the blueberry cobbler in a cup. The portion size is very generous. The three purchases came up to $ 11.25.
The ice cream was very smooth, creamy, fresh and not too sweet. Mine was loaded with blueberries and pieces of cobbler crust. The strawberry was loaded with berries and yummy. The Oreo cheesecake had pieces of cookie and cheesecake. Everyone was happy and full.
I look forward to visiting thourgh out the summer and trying more creations. But next time I’ll know GET YOUR ASS IN LINE.

I’m not a big ice cream person, but I LOVE Handel’s Banana Cream Pie flavor! I don’t have cravings for ice cream but I’ll crave this one from time to time.

The girls who work here are very professional and God they have alot of patience, its crazy so many flavors you could try and desicions, desicions .
Im glad this spot its 30 min drive away from me otherwise i would go everyday :/

Great flavor, friendly service and fun especially on Tuesdays — swing by with some friends and you have a wide selection to choose from!
FLAVORS:
I enjoyed the Mint Chocolate Chip (personal favorite), Mocha Chocolate Chip, Banana Cream and S’mores.
I personally found their icecream to be too soft and thus extremely quick to melt (within seconds) but that’s just me.
Keep in mind: Tuesdays are now $ 2.50 per scoop than the usual $ 2.

Why wasn’t Handel’s here when I was growing up? Instead, it was Pony Square Liquor and there was a TCBY in the same lot. I don’t live in the area anymore and I wish Handel’s was within walking distance of my current place, but then again, I’d most likely be 20 pounds heavier with a gut full of ice cream.
I’ll note that I have not tried all of the flavors, especially since I don’t get back to the South Bay often, and when I do I satisfy my craving by going for the tried and true BCP. The lines can get pretty long, but the wait has never been bad.

I love Handel’s, it’s practically a Southbay institution! It’s walk up window style ordering with some outdoor seating. Staff is made up of friendly high school kids which is probably why it seems to be a popular hang out spot with local high schoolers. Some nights the line can get long but generally it moves pretty quickly. Here are some of my favorite items:
Handel Pops — small serving of dipped ice cream on a stick, great option if you want something small.
Handel’s Hurricane — essentially Handel’s version of a DQ blizzard, I love the one made with Reese’s peanut butter cups!
Specialty Blondie Sundae — sometimes I get a butterscotch craving and this is perfect if you like butterscotch. It’s a big serving though, I recommend sharing!
The 4 scoop sampler is also very popular but way too much ice cream for me. I think this is also good for sharing!

Wow… So disappointed in this place! I had such high expectations. First service was awful. Not very friendly at all. I felt so rushed by the guy and he made it seem like he didn’t want us to try samples. There wasn’t even a line, it was a cold day.
I thought their flavors were on the simple side to what I’m normally used to (aka. cherimoya, lemon chiffon, etc.) I think their flavors are different from like baskin robbins but it is definitely not gourmet ice cream. The price is cheap so that helped with this 3 star review. I think they are just above baskin robbins and below Kansha Creamery (which is in Torrance area as well).

This is probably still the best traditional ice cream shop in the SoCal (I think Handel is better than Fosselman).
You can’t really beat $ 2 Tuesday (normally $ 3.50 per serving and each serving is two and a half scoops). Waffle cone is extra $ 0.75, waffle bowl is extra $ 1.75, and 4 scoop sampler is $ 5. Ice cream sandwiches, banana splits, Popsicles, and sundaes are also available.

Graham Central Station and Butter Pecan ($ 3.50): Slightly less creamy than Fosselman’s ice cream, but flavors were well balanced and the sweetness was just right. ALWAYS get the Graham Central Station.

There’s a reason why it is still going strong after 70+ years (started in 1945). Next time you are in Ohio or two other California locations (Upland, CA & Rancho Cucamonga, CA), give Handel’s ice cream a try! Not all franchise ice cream shops are necessary bad!
P. S. — Chocolate pecan is Handel’s signature flavor (but I didn’t see the flavor listed on the menu) and chocoholic chunk is considered as another favorite flavor to eat.

The best ice cream in town! Maybe even the best Ice cream in general.
There is usually a long line especially on Tuesdays because of the Tuesday deal which is a scope for I think it’s 2 $ which is a great deal. The scoops they give you are pretty big.
I always go for the 4 scoop sample which is 5 $ another great deal. You can pick any 4 flavors. My favorite flavors are the banner cream pie, ore-​dough, chocoholic chunk, granhm central station, and strawberry.
Parking is easy to find and the service is usually good.
They also sell pints and quarts which are pretty expensive at $ 5 and $ 7 buts it’s the best ice cream so it’s worth.

I went to this place about 2 weeks ago. This is in a shopping center, there is no inside for this place so it’s pretty much a stand.
The line was long so I knew that was a good sign. I had the turtle caramel and the flavor of the day. I got the 4 scoop sampler which was only $ 5 that’s an amazing price, your not going to beat that anywhere. Especially in Redondo Beach.
The ice cream was amazing, they have seating outside. Overall great experience I will definitely be back.

Came here on a $ 2 Tuesday and waited in a slow-​moving line. Slow? Why yes, they laboriously hand scoop and if you have someone ahead of you actually ordering pints of this stuff, expect a longer wait. Is it worth it? I think so.
I don’t usually come here because I don’t like crowds but ice cream for $ 2? That’s good olé’ fashioned pricing too. There should be no complaints here.

Wer in Redondo Beach ist muss unbedingt das Selbstgemachte Eis von Handels probieren, besonders der Chocoholic Chunk ist der hammer.
