Firstfruits Feed

Although it is wonderful to have a feed store in Redmond again. I am unsure how long this one will survive. You have to wonder about a business that always has a help wanted sign out front. My spouse worked here for a short time, we feel blessed for the paycheck, but the owner is a complete basket case.

On a positive note the owner does have a great staff member that worked many years at a feed store in Woodinville that always makes sure that the feed products are quality. The owner also brings in beautiful hay almost on a daily basis.

Firstfruits has friendly, knowledgeable staff and a great selection of products for people, pets and farm critters. I’m happy they are in Redmond and are not a «chain» feed store with high staff turnover.

I really like First Fruits — I’m glad to have a place that’s closer by to get what we need for our dog, chickens and horses. They are increasing the number of items they carry (so 4 stars for now), and we are going to start buying our monthly ton of hay from them — it is great to be able to go by and first check what kind looks best for our horses needs. Also, the owner (I think it was him) was really helpful when I went in and asked about hay and hay availability.

Their hay prices aren’t bad by the bale compared to other feed stores. The eastern Washington timothy hay quality is usually great. I’ve only had one bad batch from them. The downside to this store is that it’s missing a lot of other things. You want the quick and easy local farm store to have a good selection so that rather than ordering online you can just stop in and get the part/​tool same day. They never have the hot fence parts I need. I only go there now to buy grain and cat food because of that. I have to drive 10 minutes farther to another feed store because I know they’ll always have the part or tool I need. Also one day I came in early to buy a couple bales of hay and had to wait for 25 minutes while some guy talked to the only worker inside about chickens. I don’t think the guy even bought anything. If I had known it would be 25 minutes I would have driven to their competitor. Also, almost every time I’ve asked employees for advice about products they don’t know much. Very unprofessional.
