Hill’s Barbershop

I’ve been going to Hill’s for about a year now, and have been very happy with the quality of the haircuts I receive and the pleasant feeling of the barbershop. It’s pretty much just walk in, get hair cut, and walk out. No appointment necessary, and the worst wait I’ve had was around 15 minutes. Very happy customer.
Regarding some of the lower reviews for this barbershop, note that the barber changed around 2015, so the barber is different and he now accepts credit/​debit card payments. The price for a standard guy’s cut is $ 25, though I frequently toss in an extra $ 5 for the excellent work.

Loved my husband’s haircut. Mr. Young could replicate the haircut from a picture my husband showed and I feel this is the first time someone got what he had in his mind perfectly. Mr. Young is a well-​mannered, detail-​oriented barber and it is quite hard to come by someone like that for men in the eastside. I guess he would have to see my husband every month now!

Young, the owner of the shop, gave me the best haircut I’ve ever had today! He’s VERY detail oriented and eager to please. I just showed him a photo of how I wanted my haircut and he duplicated what he saw. I’ll be back!!!

Not bad, Young was really nice and gave me a decent cut. Ive been trying to find a regular cutter and will most likely come back again. My hair cut was not perfect, but it was only my first time. Will come back again

I came to Hill’s Barbershop to get my hair cut because Hair FX nearby was booked for a while. I saw the sign for this place and wandered in. I had to wait a bit for the guy in front of me to be finished, but it wasn’t a big deal. Young was polite and professional. I asked for my hair to be completely cut off, and he left maybe about a millimeter but not enough to complain about.
What’s definitely worth complaining about, however, is the price. He charged me twenty dollars for this, the simplest hairstyle in the world. I don’t know why it should cost twenty dollars to have my head shaved completely bald. What makes this worse is that I didn’t see the price on any menu, and my hair was very short to begin with. Asking twenty dollars for such easy work is completely ridiculous.
I’ve had more complex hairstyles done at places like Hair FX for half the price. Other places will actually wash your head under water after the haircut or even give you a massage; this place did neither for me. He only vacuumed my head and asked for twenty dollars. Good thing he was nice and the place is conveniently located for me, because otherwise this review would have been more unfavorable.

Hubby had a great haircut with the owner, Young (sp?). We came at the end of the day and he was working on a customer, but stayed open a bit late for my hubby. Nice place!

Moved away from Redmond but still make the drive to see Young every 4 weeks. I can’t say enough nice things about his work. Also, just a great all around nice guy who I look forward to chatting with every 4 weeks. 5 stars! You will not be dissapointed.

Was looking for a good barbershop for a while now… Even since I relocated to the US I had a problem with chain salons that lacked in quality and consistency. Every time I found someone who could cut my hair right (rarely happened), he would leave the shop in a couple of months. Then I found Young’s shop and after the first two times he cut my hair I was sold! The BEST high-​and-​tight haircut I ever got. He is very detail oriented and he gets it right every. single. time.
And come on guys, it’s a barbershop. Aren’t you tired of hair salons? It’s about time you found someone who specializes in men’s haircuts.

Hill’s is worth the $ 25 (regular guy’s cut) and you may find yourself wanting to tip, because this guy is professional, fast, and skilled.
Plus, he’a got a barber pole outside like a barber should. Would barb again.

Just having come from New York City, I was nervous about finding a new hair stylist in Redmond. After trying out a several places, I decided to give Hill’s a try. With an classic barbershop feel, Hill’s is definitely my barbershop going forward. Apparently this new owner, Young, has taken over in the past year or so, and I must say he does a great job keeping a clean and comfortable environment and – more importantly – has a real talent in cutting hair.
He seems to have an extensive background in learning from a top hairstylist in Seoul, Korea before he moved to the states and working in Seattle for quite some while.
I would say I am a pretty picky guy when it comes to haircuts, and Young did a great job paying attention to my requests and really shaping the haircut to be customized to the shape of my face/​head rather than going with a cookie cutter cut.
I’m thankful to have a talented, professional and extremely nice (always with a smile) barber here in Redmond, and I’d recommend him to anyone. Thanks Young.

Street parked just to dash in and make an appt. No can do but there’s a chair open — in & out with a great cut in under 20 minutes!
I had been to Mike Hill’s original place across the way a couple times before it was torn down and he moved into this new locale. It is a huge improvement that takes old-​school ambience and approach out of the shadows and shows it off to a T. Lots of new staff, competent and quick. It’s a great asset to the downtown Redmond community.

Best men’s barber shop around. Mike Hill searched long and hard and found a good successor in Young Choi.

Love this place! Great haircut, good location, very friendly and engaging barber/​owner. Will definitely return. Cheaper than Rudy’s and only one block away! Was happier with my haircut and MUCH happier with my experience here than Rudy’s. Would recommend to anyone.

FYI This Barbershop is NOT closed. I was very impressed with the attention to detail I got from my hair cut today, and the straight-​razor shave on the back of my neck was amazing! The price was very good, especially for how expensive Redmond is getting.
I’m definitely coming back and would definitely recommend this barbershop to anyone!

My husband went in for a simple cut and Mike was a very crotchety, impatient person.
He definitely had an attitude and behaved like he didn’t care about people at all.
He sure needs to learn how to treat people with kindness, since he’s in the business of working closely with people. He’s definitely not a happy camper. We are warning you guys to not waste your time and money with this barber. There are plenty of better barbers out there, who understand how to treat people with kindness.

Trying to find someone new to cut your hair is a challenge, a give and take. Figuring out a way to talk about something as nebulous as how you want your hair to look and getting that translated into a finished product requires patience and understanding on both ends. I wanted to like Mike, he is well reviewed on Unilocal and seemed like a good choice for a guy new to the area.
Maybe I came in on an off day, but he was crotchety from the get go. I don’t think he was listening to much of what I said, he kept pulling conversational threads out of mid air from whatever internal monologue he had going through his head and address them like they were things I had just said. Eccentric, but thats fine I’ve never had a problem with eccentric.
After the initial cut he had me look it over and I said it still seemed longer than I was going for. This seems natural: I say shortish on the sides, he does his best to interpret my meaning while staying on the longer «safe» side of things. Aparently this kind of approach is not natural for him, he let out a long sigh and told me he didn’t like to give 2 haircuts for the price of one. Something that seems completely unreasonable to me. Nevertheless I apologized and thanked him for working with me, we are now about 10 minutes in from sitting down in the chair.
He took a little bit more off and we repeated the process with him growing more exasperated all the while. Note: this is at 9:45am and the store is completely empty. After the third round not much had changed so I thanked him and went my own way. I was not satisfied with the haircut or the service and for 25 bucks thats a shame.
I read the reviews on Unilocal before trying anyone here in Redmond. I like the idea of the old-​school barbershop, I like the description Mike I found here before going. But that is not what I got at Hill’s. I got a crotchety old man who had no patience and overcharged me for a quick buzz. I strongly warn you to avoid this place unless you are a grumpy old man and want hair like an onion loaf.

A little pricey ($ 25) and only accepts cash, but friendly, speedy service — no appointment necessary. Plus, my husband got one of the best haircuts I’ve ever seen on him. Definitely worth the extra dinero.

I went to Hills after a string of on-​off relationships with other «Barbers» (read «stylists with „Barber“ in their business name»). Mike is one of the last men of his kind. A real old fashioned barber that cuts hair in the ways of yesteryear.
He’s always up for some conversation, a die hard Mariners fan. He gives a great consistent haircut every time. Finishing with his signature vacuum so you don’t get hair trimmings everywhere.
He’s got a mini «museum» in the corner with old hair tonics and straight blades. A sign he’s taken up this craft from his father before him.
I’ve had some great haircuts, some truly awful haircuts. Mike does a great consistent job each time at a much cheaper price than the stylists. My wife gives a thumbs up every time.

He spent about 5 minutes on my haircut. It may have just been a miscommunicator when I say «a lot shorter on the sides, and only a little off the top» being misinterpreted as «a little of the sides and nothing off the top», but the nail in the coffin is that he charged me $ 25.
That is by far the most expensive barber shop haircut I have ever had in my life; as well as the shortest.
