Joe Kerby’s Auto Repair & Tune-Up

We have been going to Joe Kerby for over 30 years. He was the 1^st mechanic that we found when moving here! At one time I had a car with a 5 year warranty through the dealership. Didn’t really like the dealership all that well and I had a check engine light come on. He diagnosed it, asked if I had a deductible at the other place. I said yes and it was $ 100. He said to take it back there as it would be less than if he did it.
We get certificates for low cost checks and oil changes. We would never go anywhere else! Thanks Joe!

We took our old car there a few times and they gave us honest opinion, I know it is hard to deal with mechanics sometimes, but he told me straight off once that I am better off taking somewhere cheaper for major work, but I am happy with their honesty.
I am sure you can get cheaper mechanics elsewhere, but these guys know what they are doing, have been in business for a long time and their reputation proceeds them.

A mechanic that sends out thank you cards, really? Wow, Joe went above and beyond with my smog check. Got me in right away and then followed up within a week with a thank you card! I’d highly recommend Joe Kerby Auto Repair for smog checks and based upon my experience, I’d have to assume he’s a thoughtful mechanic as well.

Take this for what it is worth. I am not saying anyone at Joe Kerby intentionally tried to rip us off, but this was our last experience there. Being a returning customer, the car was brought in with a check engine light and it had been starting very slowly and difficultly. It was $ 75 just for diagnostics… and they concluded that the only problems were an oil change and fuel filter. This was after we were told it would only take an hour, in the middle of the work day, and it ended up taking a few hours for this diagnosis. $ 150 fix… easy decision right? We told them to go ahead with the repairs, as we trusted their opinions.
As they were fixing it, they broke a brake line and a fuel line… kind of sketchy, as these were not problems before bringing the car in and now we were forced to fix these issues because the car was there, and wouldn’t drive without this fixed.
These were two obvious problems that should have definitely been looked at during an initial diagnosis… regardless, ended up paying about $ 350 for these repairs.
All was well, except that THE NEXT DAY, the car completely broke down, while driving, in the middle of the road. Fast forward to getting it towed to a different shop… being told that the starter was completely shot, along with the battery. TWO VERY OBVIOUS ISSUES THAT SHOULD’VE BEEN DISCOVERED BY JOE KERBY!
Not only was $ 350 paid to Joe Kerby, MANY hours wasted in the day, but then the car immediately breaks down and two very obvious problems were immediately diagnosed. I am not saying Joe Kerby was intentionally doing this, I am just simply saying DO NOT bring your car here. Any mechanic, when told their are issues starting the car, should have diagnosed a bad starter AND a bad battery before blaming the issue on a fuel filter. Save yourself time, hassle and MONEY. DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE. Unprofessional, not helpful with a refund, and no explanation for the poor service.

I absolutely hate dealing with car issues. My poor Volvo has been a nightmare recently with the amount of repairs needed to pass a smog test and then having an electrical fire a month later. SHOOT ME! My boyfriend brought my car to Joe Kerby for the smog test — personally I didnt want to deal with it. Joe Kerby was very honest with the repairs needed on the car to pass the smog test and my car passed!!! A month later my car had an unfortunate electrical fire… completely unrelated to the engine repairs. Joe Kerby assessed the damage of the car and recommend that I try to go through my insurance company because it was a car fire. Luckily my insurance company will cover the cost of the repairs PHEW! I am grateful for Joe Kerby’s patience and honesty through this process. Thanks!

I got this shop’s name off Angie’s List and decided to try them out on a repair for which I was getting conflicting recommendations. Joe Kerby helped pinpoint the problem as resulting from work done by another shop and which was still under warranty. Saved me $ 1700!
After this great experience I took my Honda Accord in for the 60K mile service and Joe’s team did a great job, on-​time and for the price quoted.
Joe, Pete and the team provide the high quality, good value service that are increasingly hard to find with the chains and franchises taking-​over the auto service business. Joe Kerby has my business going forward for certain!

An honest mechanic, finally. Joe is hard working, communicates every step of the way, and charges reasonable prices for fast work.

I was in search of a good mechanic after going to three different places. I felt very comfortable with Joe. The first time I had my car fixed he replaced my alternator. I was pleased with the price and the service.
Plan and simple Joe is a stand up kind of guy he does what he says he is going to do. He doesn’t nickel and dime you with extras you don’t need.

We started coming here to get a 2^nd opinion on a job the dealership said would cost $ 1500, Mr. Kerby fixed my old Accord for less than $ 200, and that was after I TOLD THEM HOW MUCH THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE WAS! It was sort of a stupid move on my part, but the car was fixed and running smooth. I’ve been getting service done here regularly ever since. I think he’s been doing this for like 20 years and he’s known in the South Bay as being the most legit mechanic in the area.
I used to get some basic stuff like smog checks done at bigger chains like Pep Boys cause it’s a little cheaper, but they kept trying to sell me stuff I didn’t need. I took it to Mr. Kerby’s place and I passed with no repairs needed. I’ll never go to another mechanic again!
