For a growing number of consumers, a lack of time and patience for buying cars has generated an interest in hiring a professional to do it for them. And to help serve this market there is now the option of an Auto Broker to assist in buying the perfect car for you… for a fee, of course.

The concept behind hiring an auto broker is relatively simple: you’re not a professional car buyer, so why go up against a professional car seller alone? With the confusion of financing, fees, add-​ons, taxes and the hurried, jargon-​filled nature of the dealership, it only makes sense to leave the bargaining to someone who won’t be fazed by the wheeling and dealing. I had been in the Automobile Industry for 7 years and for several manufacturers and distributors. I consider myself a good negotiator and pretty versed in the ways of a dealership. But, although I was in the automobile industry at one time, I was not good at numbers, have no patience with going from dealership to dealership, haggling prices etc. So I decided to with an Auto Broker.
I had been familiar with this process years ago when my parents only dealt with brokers or their Credit Union who offered these kinds of services. One of the Managers I work with informed me he hasn’t shopped for a car the traditional way (at a dealership) in years. He was a big advocate of using an Auto Broker and said it was worth spending the fee for a broker which is why he stated he has used a broker for the last three vehicles he purchased.
This was my first time using an auto broker and I had a very positive experience. I chose to work with Pat McKinley. He was great and consistently there via phone, text, email and fax from start to finish. Even once the deal was done, he followed up with me afterwards to ensure the car was running well, I was happy with it and all the things that were promised to me where upheld.
I met Pat when I was working for Ford Motor Company years ago and he is respected and reputable. I personally know he has been in the industry for 30 years plus. Being a former Finance Director, Pat has the skills, knowledge and connections for customer satisfaction and the best deal possible. He was very good with his customers and everyone he worked with when he was at a dealership. He’s very upbeat, thorough, and proactive. He has great negotiating skills and definitely has a great rapport with not only his clients, but the dealerships and banks he works with.
But much of what he provided for me was peace of mind. After paying a flat fee for the service, I found that I would have paid a higher price on my own. I knew what I wanted how much I wanted to spend and narrowed it down to specific models. I didn’t care for the antagonistic negotiations I would have been going through with salespeople so using Pat, really saved me time and relieved the stress of shopping for a new car. He did all the legwork to locate a good deal and the exact car I wanted.
In the end, it was worth the fee of hiring a professional to broker the purchase of my car. But beyond the dollars, hiring a broker to represent you in the buying process can save time and hassle. I’m a big advocate of a car broker and recommend using Pat McKinley.
