The Salvation Army

Cashier was rude, wouldn’t sell me clothes because she stated that the piece was ticketed wrong. I have been shopping at Salvation Army for years (10+) and this incident made me so mad that I am considering never purchasing another article of clothing here again. I would rather just donate money for their cause then deal with the people that work there. There employees are the face of their company, the people they are trying to help, and I think they should train them better.

I second the comments that the interior of this store desperately needs TLC and some elbow grease. You need to dig through racks and racks of 80s shoulder pads, questionable stained items and items that were probably never in fashion to begin with. But I almost always find something good here at a reasonble price. Comparable to Goodwill or even better sometimes. Check it out!

I used to shop here, but the prices have skyrocketed! I definitely won’t be shopping here anymore and neither should you if you’re looking for a bargain!

What happened to this place? Crappy junk, high prices and worse, this charitable Christian org treats employees like crap… no longer patronizing this store.

Not sure this is the same one that did my pick up, or should say non-​pick-​up. I had a decent sofa that had a minor spot on the cushion. I was told they could not accept it because of that.
Isn’t this organization supposed to be doing God’s work? I’m sure they do wonderful things for people with their brand new donations, as for me, I am apt to pass them up next time I hear their bell ringing.

This is a huge salvation army with lots of parking in a shared lot. Everyone was friendly and helpful and on this occasion I found exactly what I needed. They take a lot in and it was decently organised. It did look a bit dingy inside but I wasn’t expecting a Nordstroms. I ended up getting costume clothing for an Ace Ventura themed party and then actually found a lamp shade I ended up loving!

As the former Store Manager for this particular store. I woukd like you to know that we as store managers occasionally check in to read your concerns and ideas which will help us improve to better serve you and meet your satisfactions. Although I am no longer at this particular location, the new store manager views the same ideas i do. which is to better serve you. I believe he will do Great. As Salvation Army tries their best to give you the best and lowest price, they also have to face the cost of spending so that they can get you the clothing and merchandise in the best possible condition. For those of you who have shared that the store those look gruby… well we try our best to maintain it as clean as possible. but like any clothing store or retail store its hard. my apologize for being given the wrong information as to how our pricing is being done, or the procedures of how the processing is done. Please always feel free to ask for the manager on shift to better assist you and give you the proper information. THIS SOUTHBAY STORE is by far the Best in Customer Service, CUSTOMERS, CLOTHING AND BRIC A BRAC store around. you cannot compare the quality and pricing of clothing to any other. This location is mostly a drop off store. Staff are welcoming and friendly. I have only walk threw once or twice. My second walk threw was my last when I had all my questions answered by the cashier about my items. I ask the cashier where was the clothes being distribute and pricing. First I was told that most of the clothes that’s are dropped off at this location do not stay in the community but are send to other stores or cities which I was not to happy about but it’s still donation. My second question was price I was told it was on brand and cut. Said that the condition of the store I would have to agree with other Unilocalers it can be cleaner and the clothes can be in better shape!

I used to love this store but lately the quality of the items has gone down hill. It is very messy now and clothes are in piles and crammed into horribly crowded racks. There are huge stains on many of the sweaters and blouses. Just very ghetto and unappealing. I think the management has changed and is now being run slip shod. The customer service absolutely sucks. It is like the store has been taken over by complete morons.

First of all, this rating is not aplply for buying or customer service from this store but just for a nice store for donating your stuff.
Good size store with big drop off boxes /​bins right in front of the store. I always got help from someone who works for the store to take away my big heavy bags of «no longer needed» items around the house. Parking is shared with Vons right next door but I found no problem to pull my car right to the front and get help from the employees there.
Next time I will go inside so I can update this review!

Yes, the store is a little grubby. And little kids run unattended through the aisles during the day. But you’re here for the hunt not the atmosphere. Just this afternoon I found an Alfani wool cashmere blend long men’s coat, practically new, for (drum roll) $ 12.50! On other trips I’ve found barely-​worn Chico’s Traveler’s cardigans and skirts for about $ 6 each, a London Fog trench coat for about $ 15, and 5 or 6 «for your (Grammy) consideration» CDs for about $ 4 each. Sure, some thrift stores charge less for tops and skirts, but I have found great separates here to supplement my office wardrobe. Instead of spending all my paychecks at Chico’s I can get my outfits here for under $ 20! So to the kind persons who donated these items… Please keep cleaning out those closets (grin)!
Each item of clothing is marked with the date it’s been tagged, so make sure to take advantage of the 50% discount on the older items (most Salvation Army stores do this). There will be a sign posted near the store entrance. The store also has a great selection of used books ($ 1.99 paperback, $ 3.99 hard-​cover).

the salvation army here is huge and very organized. i was looking into furniture and i happen to find really nice ones for cheap. there was an independent mover guy that helped haul everything home.
i would always donate my stuff here and go shopping for any hidden gems.

Always great finds!!! Some of the staff here are totally awesome. Beyond friendly. Items here are great priced. Just bought a master bedroom drawer for 30 bucks right now. Great Steal!!! Today everything was an extra 40% off

I don’t particularly care for this thrift store because its always dirty. Its a big location and they have a lot of merchandise, but they definitely need to try sweeping the floors regularly — I always see piles of dirt or hair getting pushed around. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
Their selection is just okay, nothing special. I usually don’t find anything to my liking here, so this thrift store is mainly a stop when I have no other choices.
I don’t recommend coming to this place at night. Even though it shares is parking lot with multiple businesses, there are barely ANY lights — it makes for walking to and from your car a little unnerving…

Got a swimsuit and cover up for $ 10… Nice! Was a bit dirty in there and especially the changing rooms though lol.

Typical thrift store… hit or miss. I found their clothing section huge (but nothing to my liking) sand houseware section tiny. I did come home with a vintage juicer thing and 70s canisters to hold flour/​sugar/​coffee. They take cards and the cashier was nice. Prices are good for a thrift store — not the cheapest but nowhere near Goodwill prices.

I rarely visit the Salvation Army. This is weird for 2 reasons: First, because I’m cheap and I’m always on the look-​out for a great deal. And second, because this particular location is so close to my house and I visit the Vons next door on a regular basis.
There’s a large parking lot outside, so parking should be a breeze.
This location is pretty large and staff are generally friendly and helpful. This is a great place to find older music CD’s, movies, old computers, furniture, and tons & tons of clothing. As with any Salvation Army, be careful with what you buy. There’s a lot of junk, but with due diligence, you can definitely find diamonds in the rough. One of my recent finds was a pair of designer jeans that normally retail between $ 100-​$ 200+ dollars. They were in pristine condition and I was able to buy them for the price of a song (or in this case, $ 6.99)
The only cons are obviously the randomness of the selection. If you go into this place expecting to find the exact item you’re looking for (or clothes the exact style/​color/​size you’re looking for), you’ll leave disappointed more often than not. But if you’re just there to casually browse to see what kind of treasures you can find, you may be pleasantly surprised.
Definitely a place worth visiting if you’re like me and you hate paying retail and want to shop on the cheap.

This is my go-​to thrift store if I’m ever going up and down the 405. They always have a lot of cool glasses and stemware. Furniture selection is a bit on the cheap side but you can find a few good gems. They also have some sports equipment and televisions in the way back.
shoe selections for both sexes are just meh. Haven’t found anything really cool in that section. Clothing, I actually find a lot of great things! Found a lot of cool sweaters and a few sweet jackets. I prefer the men’s section here than the women’s at times and luckily being a taller girl, I can fit into the men’s jackets and hoodies. Score. I actually found a few nice designer duds here including Diane Von Furstenberg pieces.
Store associates have always been nice to me for the most part. I’ve only had one instance of a woman being kind of catty to me but maybe she was having a bad day. This salvation army is tucked away in a corner next to a VONS so don’t miss it! Parking can be busy on the weekends just because of people grocery shopping but take a look around!

I’m definitely a fan of this SA. I used to live in the area and would frequent this place every week. Lots of funky clothes and appliances and other precious junk. I found a Von Dutch shirt for $ 2. A Bing Crosby White Christmas LP for $ 1. Still working on finding a Members Only jacket though. Well, isn’t everyone?
The store, like my predecessors have mentioned, is very well organized. Very clean and very well stocked. The employees are always restocking items that have been displaced on the changing room racks. For the most part, the sizes on clothes are consistent, considering that each and every item used to belong to someone else.
This is a really great SA. I highly recommend it.
