Ice Oasis Ice Skating Rink

Just took my 3 yr old for her first Tot Beginner class today. It was AWFUL!!! HORRIBLE!!! There were 40+ little children with one main instructor and few young girls as her assistant. The place was absolute chaotic from the beginning. And it got worse every minute I was there. It still blows my mind thinking what the lesson coordinator/​manager was thinking in arranging a class like this! These are very young children who are trying out skates on ice for the very first time. The child and instructor ratio was extremely ridiculous — 10+ kids to one of the assistant (they weren’t even really assigned). What are they thinking?!! Needless to say, my daughter spent most of the time crawling on the ice and trying to get up. Every time I think about this, it really upsets me. There were couple times someone would come along and pick her up and then move on. Then she would of course, fall again. DO NOT SIGN YOUR YOUNG CHILDREN FOR THEIR TOT CLASSES! The ratio and their so called instruction method is a joke — beyond a joke. Damn dangerous. They had the audacity to throw bucket of rubber animals where kids can barely get up, only to cause them to fall down more and blow bubbles? Bubbles on ice? Whoever runs this program should be FIRED!!!

Love the friendly staff and the fact they have an ice skating shop inside is a plus love this place!!!

I’ve skated at this rink since the early 2000’s and was hopeful when the new management came in (around the Great Recession) to save the place from going under. After putting up some paint in the locker rooms, and saying they were going to fix the place up, the new management has let the rink slide even further into the pits. Sure, it’s a local rink, so expectations are low to begin with. The boards have huge gaps, the ceiling leaks, the upstairs sewer drips into the downstairs locker room, the stairway rubber is worn out and wood and nails stick out. The ice is often melted or gritty, and there have been occasions where the sand swells up creating a dangerous trip hazard in the goalie crease.
While I can live with the above deficiencies and off-​putting smells, the real problem is with the current unfriendly rink management. The manager fails to communicate with league players, and is no longer cares to manage the adult leagues. There was a time at Ice Oasis when you knew the players on your night and the teams were friendly and the teams fairly even. The manager would routinely make mid-​season trades to keep things balances and non-​team subs were never allowed to dominate the play. Well, this stopped a few years ago and since then the teams have been allowed to go horribly lopsided. The result is that players have stopped showing up and on some of the adult nights, 1 out of 3 of the games aren’t even played. Paying $ 30 for a non-​game forfeit is a rip off.
Save your money and either go with a local rink that has friendly management, or go to one of the Shark’s ice locations where the ice is good and the management much more professional.

I visited because the Belmont rink was under ice maintenance. When I entered, there was nobody at the admission counter. Finally, when the staff member got to the desk, he laughed in my face and told me I had three minutes to skate and that I’d have to come back tomorrow. I realized then that I’d accidentally misread the schedule, and was okay with being turned away, but I was surprised by his utterly rude behavior.
Not coming back, ever.

My family and I have utilized almost everything they have to offer here.
The Ice isn’t the best in the area, but it’s pretty darn good when you consider that they only have the one sheet, and it’s used for public skating, hockey, and figure skating, and also speed skating.
I really like the adult club hockey league, because if you stick around a few seasons, you get to know everyone, because the league changes the rosters every season. Some seasons have more parity than others, but it’s always a fun time. The refs call the games tight, which I like.
Don’t forget to check out the grill upstairs. Make sure to ask if they have any current specials not on the menu. ;-)
My son has had a pretty good experience with their hockey program. Some coaches are better than others, but we had a really great coach this spring. They have a new hockey director, who hopefully can freshen up the program some.
And the skating school might be the best part of the rink. My son is home grown to the Ice Oasis, and while he’s not the best skater there, he can most certainly «get the job done.»

Not a bad place to kill a couple hours. Kinda dirty. Food is awful. Then again I don’t go ice skating to have a nice meal. And also be aware of kids learning the extents of the English language. I heard more f bombs at this 10 year olds birthday party then I did in Wolf of Wall Street.

I have been coming here for 15+ years and it feels like home. The ice could be better (the ceiling tends to drip and create bumps on the surface), and the lobby could definitely use an update. That said, Ice Oasis hosts some of the best freestyle and dance coaches on the West Coast. I wish they would bring Friday morning freestyle sessions back!

Another visit to the grill, and the dirt is still everywhere! I can’t believe this place passes an inspection. And those restrooms!!! Even my kids notice how dirty everything is, and they are usually clueless! If we had a skating alternative, we’d go there… And stay far away from the grill. Again, the staff is nice but SOMEONE NEEDS CLEAN!!!

If I could give negative stars I would! Hanna the male «manager» is so incredibly unprofessional AND a liar. Do not set have your party here. I had requested for a birthday party package where we get the party room. I asked Hanna if it was a private room he said yes, I paid the 100 $ non refundable deposit. Arrived at nazareth ice oasis a half hour early to set up decorations for the 7 year olds birthday only to find out it was not a private room. It was shared with a bunch of others. We had no tables, no space and had a newborn baby with 5 senior citizens. The set up was absolutely awful. Hanna is a LIAR! Never have your party here, you’ll be extremely disappointed, they also say on the website you’ll have one instructor and one assistant for a 15 min lesson. We had one instructor and no assistant. We had 17 kids. You do the math. On the other hand, I have to show appreciation to Nadia at the grill who delivered delicious food and platters for us to eat.
I’m never coming here again and neither are my guests.

Me and my boyfriend were going to go here one day and didn’t know public skating hours, we went in and he asked for skates only to receive a rude «public skating is closed» when he tried to respond with an apology she simply walked away to get the public hours list. Which i later noticed only has two hours of public skating??? even on weekends??? When she came back she handed him the list and again walked away, this time she didn’t come back. Rude. The whole time assisting us she had this whole ego surrounding her like she ran a 5 star ice rink and we didn’t deserve to be there, newsflash lady, you’re running a dump. One that i will never visit again.

This is a review for the public skate only.
Public skate should be PUBLIC ONLY and not skating around private lessons, almost getting mowed down by diva skaters practicing their jumps and spins all over the ice, and having to navigate through throngs of unattended children.
Turn on the music and have a public skate. Schedule time for private lessons separately, and have a time when skaters can practice that is NOT PUBLIC SKATE.
Cleaning the place up and examining the dripping ceiling (gross!!!) would be a step in the right direction as well.

This review is for The Grill at the Ice Oasis:
Great view of the rink, but surprisingly — come for the food. I watch my husband’s games from this café. They got new owners a couple years ago and now the food is very good. They do a great job with fresh salads — nice variety of veggies and good blue cheese dressing! But my favorite is the BLAT sandwich. That’s bacon/​lettuce/​avocado/​tomato. They put in tons of avocados! And of course, all the hockey players love the burgers. And the prices are very good. $ 5 for a glass of wine and it’s a good pour. But if you like red wine, they keep it in the fridge, so you’ll have to warm it in your hands:)

My mother took my son, her grandson there and was treated in a very awful way. The staff was definitely not friendly and borderline rude to her. She was trying to be positive and optimistic in front of my son but the folks there were awful to her. She came home to tell me about it and my son from behind her said, «yes mommy, they were not nice to us at all. I don’t want to go back.» Come on — if my 6 year old can clearly see someone being rude, I had to post on Unilocal about it. Really a shame to hear this. Oh and it was NOT on a weekend when it was overcrowded but on a weekday…

I like the quality of Ice on this Rink over Belmont Ice land. I think Oasis has a newer infrastructure and a better facility.

This is my second home. I’ve been skating at the stick and shoots for a little over 7 years now. This is where I first learned to skate and where I made a decision to invest a whole lot of money in to buying all my own hockey gear and custom skates from East West when they were over in San Carlos.
With the closing of Bridgepointe: (and the Belmont Iceland never living up to my expectations the Ice Oasis soothes my soul and keeps me active in the sport. Friends have come and gone over the year but I know that this place will always be here for me and welcome me with open arms and tons of other people to skate with.
Stick and shoot used to be $ 5 now its $ 15, this is my biggest complaint, but you know what… it’s worth every penny. Ice Oasis will always be my home ice.

Prices
The prices were also more economically as compared to the city. $ 12 per person including skates. It was $ 17 in Union Square.

They have a family package for ice skating. $ 40 (including rentals).
What I liked:
I liked the fact that you didn’t have to book in advance and could just show up, pay and skate. No fuss. The staff was also very friendly and allowed me to swap my skates for a size smaller mid session when I realized they might have been too big for me. As with all rental skates, don’t expect them to be super sharp so bring your own if you’d like.
The ring was big enough for everyone to skate around without crashing into each other too often which was nice. Unlike the one in Union Square in SF where people are practically elbow to elbow.
Parking:
Not a problem. The building has free customer parking.
Pro tip:
Bring a jacket! It can get cold on the ice ring although you will warm up after a few rounds. Be sure to stuff some tissue into your pockets too… for your nose (as it can get cold on the ice… brrr). For beginners like me, a pair of gloves would come in handy for the falls.

I’ve never skated at this rink (other than to test out my new skates), but I am reviewing because of Terry.
I was sooooo pleased with his work. I have been a figure skater for about 12 years, and I have had THOUSANDS of dollars wasted because people ruin my $ 700 blades through their horrific sharpenings. My coach would drive all the way from Sacramento just to have Terry sharpen our blades
This guy KNOWS WHAT HE’S DOING.
After trying out different skate brands, I wanted to return to Klingbeils. I didn’t know where I could get fitted because the man who used to do my fittings passed away. So I emailed Klingbeil and they referred me to Terry. At the time I didn’t even realize that he is the guy that my coach would go to for my sharpenings.
Terry is a so amazing, I wish I found him earlier in my skating career. My feet are torn up from my previous skates. Terry could analyze my feet just by looking at them. He knew my problem areas without me even having to tell him. He really cares about the health of your feet and did everything he could to make sure I would not have any more problems.
This is the best customer service you can get. Terry made sure that if I have ANY problems at all with my new skates that it is not my fault, it is the manufacturers fault. He will fix any problem, and will send it them back to get fixed free of charge until I am fully satisfied.
With skates costing over $ 1300, I am VERY particular about my skates and I expect everything to be perfect. Terry made this happen.

I wish I could say this place rocks but I can’t.
Ice is decent, the staff (especially the bar) are disappointing. When I was there, two girls (who earlier had been making and serving food) were sitting flipping through magazines and talking about boys.
This place needs (badly!!!) a coat of paint and a deep clean.
The bathroom are nasty, and the walls and floors in all places are truly disgusting.
Yesterday, during a tournament) there was a leak and it was very near electrical. Did I mention there hasn’t been rain for several days? All they did was put a garbage can nearby to catch water. Safety issue, people!!!
So come here if you just want to skate — but not to eat or use the loo.

This place is pretty cool! (Pun intended). The ice is tiny, but there’s a grill and bar upstairs that features craft brews on tap… And nothing goes with hockey/​clumsy public skating like some delicious ale and fresh-​grilled burgers. They also have Diet Coke… in case you’re a fraction as excited by that as I am.
The décor is total Midwest-​reminiscent, which will make any California-​transplant feel right at home.
Just avoid the bathrooms. At all costs.

We took our 5-​year-​old ice skating for his first time with a few of his buddies and wanted it to be a positive experience so I did a bit of research on Unilocal and chose Nazareth Ice Oasis.
This rink is a little off the beaten path, and very pimped out. So nice, in fact, that Stanford and Santa Clara University hockey teams use this rink for practice.
Why’d we like it?
+ For the price of admission, we got skates, gloves, and helmets for the kids.
+ The Sunday public skating session was not crowded (I hear Saturdays are more crowded).
+ There is a grill upstairs with fresh cooked food and a kid menu.
+ After skating, we watched the skaters and hockey try-​outs while we ate at the grill from an aerial view. Sweet.
+ The facility is in great condition.
+ This is a family-​run rink.
+ There is a hockey shop upstairs within the facility. Very tricked out.
+ You can have birthday parties or other special events here.

I’m glad we found this place. All the kids in our group ice skated for the first time, had fun, and want to go skating again.
