Peninsula Community Center

Our family loves PCC. It is super family friendly and everyone is so nice. It’s a great community. It’s a beautiful location. I would give it 5 stars but the fitness center and locker rooms still need some updating. They are continually working on it, though.

I hate doing this, but I’m taking away another star from my review. For the SECOND consecutive summer, the air conditioning is on the blink, and there are many days it’s like going into a sauna for a workout. For what my husband and I are doling out on monthly membership payments and, after two years of a malfunctioning AC system, I would think you’d finally «get it» and get the damn thing repaired or replaced, PCC! There are times when it gets plenty crowded so with all the hot, sweaty bodies exuding heat, the air can be heavy and stifling. For God’s sake rev up the AC or at least get it fixed, puh-​leeze.
How about posting some reminders, lots of them, such as pick up after yourself, dispose of your own beverages and used Kleenexes, and put the used towels in the dirty towel bin where they belong. If people don’t have the good manners to pick up after themselves, they need reminders, just like in kindergarten.
One bright ray of sunshine is the staff, instructors, and trainers. God love them all. They’re the best.

The gym actually looks pretty adequate and the pool is quite nice w a pretty view of the mountains. The day care seems to have some good moms looking over the kids. I would give the gym itself 3 – 4 stars, but unfortunately they have a person, Julie F, in charge of membership. No matter if you like the gym or not, you can’t get through to join or complete an application. I emailed Julie F 3 times with NO response and tried to contact her for over 3 weeks. When I called, their staff even hinted that she doesn’t work much. They said she «works from home most of the time» and they do not know when she is on vacation. Their go to response is «sorry, she might be on vacation or be working from home so may not be able to respond to you.» Really? How can you have someone who doesn’t even work in charge of memberships? I am not sure how they can stay in business with only Julie taking care of memberships. Maybe they just have so much business they can’t bother returning new clients’ calls or emails. Even so, it is very rude not to respond to any emails or phone calls. It is too bad, I think the gym and daycare would be decent, but they need to find someone who will care about their potential clients in the membership office.

I love PCC! The staff, the facilities and mostly the community! I have been a member for nearly 15 years and can’t imagine life without the PCC community! Each area (tennis, swim classes, masters swim, workout classes, Childcare, front desk, pool…) has a staff member or five that give their all! It is so wonderful! Highly recommend joining!

I have been a member at peninsula community center since 2008. More and more, I continue to enjoy my experience there. First, being a part of the master’s swim team with Coach Mike is a great way to get exercise throughout the week, and the flexible workout schedule has made it easy to get in the pool. While the weight room doesn’t have an ideal layout, I go often to lift and have always been able to do my workout and use all the machines. Spinning with Glen (a former professional triathlete) on Monday nights is fun and a good challenge. Oh, the showers and locker rooms have all been freshly remodeled and tiled (the old reviews here are out of date), and they look great. Each summer, I have also loved the open BBQ around the pool deck, which is a great incentive to come swimming whenever I can. Thank you PCC!

Just a quick update to state that PCC has revised their policy regarding family memberships (the «man and woman families only» thing I referred to in my original review). This change happened in the Spring of 2013, and I hope that anyone who was turned off by the former policy will consider giving PCC another chance. It is an excellent family environment, and I am proud to be a member of a club that is open to change. It says a lot that a club affiliated with a religious organization would choose to change its policies to better serve its community. Good on ya, PCC!

My family and I have been going here (to the gym and pool, not the church) for years; we began the membership when I was on swim team as a kid and kept it ever since. Pretty much because it is a good deal and relatively close by.
I still use it pretty frequently. The pool is very clean. There are never too many people there in the off-​season, which usually means having my own lane (score!) and laying out in the sun in peace and quiet.
Summer months are a zoo, and the pool gets very crowded very fast. Since there is only one pool and a medium sized deck, I recommend getting there early and getting your lounge chairs.
The gym is well maintained with all the necessary equipment. It is relatively small, but so is the center. It is clean and usually not too crowded. Again, go at the right time and you get all of the equipment to yourself.
The staff is very friendly and know me by name, which is always awesome. Everyone there is just plain nice.
I just heard about the group exercise classes, and am pretty stocked to try them out!

I’m so torn in my review of PCC. On one hand, it is a great environment for kids — lots of great activities (swim, tennis, camps, etc). The swim team program is a very positive experience for our whole family and it runs like a well-​oiled machine! But if I did not have children, I would go elsewhere.
My trainer (Jennifer Griffin) is the best around. If she ever leaves PCC, I’m going with her. She has a physical therapy background, great knowledge of anatomy and physiology, knows how to deal with injuries, and really stresses safety and form while working your butt off. I am so thankful that I found her.
On the other hand, the gym space is not well optimized and there is often inadequate space to support group fitness classes, individual members working out at the gym, and personal training clients. The conflicts happen at peak gym hours. Other members at the gym are very kind and considerate and try to work around these issues, but the management is not responsive to complaints from members about the space. When spin classes are in session, the only place to do stretching, medicine ball, mat work, etc is in the hallway with very little space and lots of people. The gym can work for me if I can go in the late morning or early afternoon or closer to closing time, but as a working parent, that can be hard to do.
And after reading the comments about the membership application specifying «man and woman», I am totally appalled. Apparently the values of love and acceptance have very defined boundaries for this place. Starting my search for another gym.

We love it. Great value, great for kids and adults, friendly staff, good community environment.

Great place for Summer swim lessons for kids. The lifeguards are attentive and I can relax by the pool while my son is taking swim lesson, or jumping off the diving board having fun. A great way to spend the Summer!
The complimentary coffee/​tea and the BBQ grill are a big plus when we need to refuel. Some of the swim instructors are better than others. I also like the fact they have a family changing room.

Overall, it’s a great place for the family, however, if you’re needs are for Gym use only, go somewhere else. For the price, it’s simply not worth it. Equipment is older and the space is not well optimized

Am just so stunned. Belonged to PCC when I was a kid and recently found out that my family now — same sex family — doesn’t qualify for a family membership since we aren’t «a man and a woman». Wow. Am blown away and pretty heartbroken that they’re allowed to get away with flat out discrimination. Not ok.

I took tennis lessons here from Franco Lopez as I was in SFO for a week. And I absolutely loved it! He was a great instructor and made learning fun. And he also helped me work on my weaknesses and spotted them too.
Will def go back to play when I go back.
They have a pool and fitness center too.

Great fun for our whole family. Kids love the pools and swimming with their friends. Husband loves the tennis — instruction, competitive ladder, etc., and I love the exercise classes, master swimming, and gym equipment. Younger son loves childcare there as well – one of the reasons we left the YMCA. Their childcare is much larger, and he likes the childcare folks (other moms) better.

Been coming for a while, but just signed up for the Master’s Swim Class and love it! The swim coach, Mike, has a good balance of knowing each person and training/​pushing them to excel. The Master’s group itself is a great group of people, very friendly, and encouraging to newcomers like me! If you want to brush up on swimming skills or train for a triathlon, you’ll fit in just fine!

Everyone that works here has a smile on their face. The pool and the tennis are great. The cardio room is small and they need TV“s it is outdated but the classes are awesome and so I stay away from the boring machines.

I’ve been coming here for years because the facilities here are nice, I love the pool, although its hard to run the same pool for classes, laps and rec all at the same time. The gym equipment is clean and in good condition — Its never crowded when i go. Parking can be a problem, but once you know when the busier times are, you can park in the church.
The change rooms are clean and the showers hot. Except the family change room by the pools, which is isn’t hot, and has only 2 showers, and is badly laid out. I hate using that one, it makes me feel like I’m a second class citizen because i have kids.
I find the front desk friendly but sometimes a bit clueless– although they usually try their best to help. The place isn’t run as professionally as a commercial gym, its more casual in its approach. Personal training is just OK, not very inspiring or informative or personalized.

I love Peninsula Community Center. I have been a member here for ten years; I just talked my girlfriend into joining as well.
The gym is beautiful: up to date equipment, clean, always maintained, and organized wisely and efficiently. Number one gym attribute: no muscle heads.
The classes are as good as you will ever find: we do spinning, pilates, and yoga, and the only problem is we do not do them enough.
The pool is clean, warm, and clean (yes, worth mentioning twice).
The tennis programs are well run, and the courts are wonderful.
The staff is really the best part; they are knowledgeable, pleasant, and always willing to help.
The layout, and location are simply gorgeous. One has a view of the south bay and east bay hills while working-​out; the lobby has starbucks coffee and tea (free), with a cozy lay-​out of leather chairs, on terra-​cotta tiles, and windows overlooking the bay.
Just don’t tell anyone.

Group Power classes– Amazing if you want a tough work-​out that will kick your butt and tone it too.
Swimming pool, lessons and master’s swimming program– Stellar.
Fitness/​Weights– Clean, great views, plenty of machines
Kids programs– A real bonus!
I’ve been a member off and on for 18 years.

They have a great swimming pool facility and a great private lesson program for my 8 year old and 3−½ year old. High school and college swim teachers can be hit or miss, but we seem to hit gold with both instructors.
Fresh towel service. Starbucks coffee service. Helpful attendants at the front desk. Lifeguards attentively watching on.
Maybe the connection with the church next door contributes to the great atmosphere. Whatever the reason, I would highly recommend PCCC for kids’ swim lessons.
